  • @snaresgonewild it came out in 1987.

  • check out "I'm Not" by Kyuss. It's pretty 80's... but so is this.

  • @nworbrelytthefirst you fail this came out in 1990 your close

  • @snaresgonewild 1987 my friend.

  • @snaresgonewild no it didnt

  • @snaresgonewild the Screaming Life EP initially came out in '87, the Fopp EP in '88, then the Screaming Life/Fopp Compilation in '90.

  • Towards the last few seconds of the song he sounds just like Robert Plant.

  • Sup man, hope your xmas was good. I've been working like a dog lately.

  • It's like a sort of primitive noise rock.

  • I had 'seeing and believing' by screaming trees in my head long before I eever heard (and bought 5 copies of) their clair-voy-ance record....

  • That 1 dislike was me. Actually I gave it to them for making Superunknown and Down On th eupside! Well maybe I didn't give it to them, but I should have :D

  • @Sean021122 Are you implying that Superunknown is a bad album?

    Because it kicks ass.

  • @BlackFloyd94 I'm not implying it, I'm saying it. Superunknonw is a very mediocre albuma at best. A definite shift towards mainstream contrived fluff. They sold out with that one and went down the tubes ever since. Sorry if that reality doesn't meet with your approval :)

  • @Sean021122

Well it's all a matter of opinion, I guess.

But in my opinion, Superunknown is far from mediocre.

It is an album full of artistic talent with a dynamic range of styles.

And yeah, it's a very mainstream album. But you really shouldn't dismiss something just because of that. So many people seem to think that "mainstream" and "no artistic talent" are interchangeable.

  • @BlackFloyd94 No I only see when a band totally does a 180 and changes to be sellout or crap. If they start out that wya, mor epower. But when everyone can see how talented this band was with everything from Ultra Mega Ok all the way through badmotorfinger, then everything they did after looks so contrived it is laughable. Like nevermind or dirt or sweet oblivion. Same crap. Same decline. Same mainstream audience they built afterards of fairweather fans that didn't know them.

  • @Sean021122

Superunknown and Nevermind both have a softer tone then their earlier releases.

They were both deliberately contrived to be appealing to the mainstream audience.

And yet, Badmotorfinger and Bleach are not much different.

They too were deliberately contrived.... to be unappealing to to the mainstream.

Either way, both styles are pretty "contrived" if you think about it.

  • @BlackFloyd94 You're telling me that bleach and badmortorfinger were contrived. You cannot put out thta kind of unique sound and it be contrived. Sorry. They were unique in the time epriod they came out, and afterwards. They were very much honest true representations of the bands at those times. Not tying to do anything but play music. So I disagree, the only things that were contrived are Superunknown and after. And Nevermind and after.Sweet Oblivion was especially this way disapp

  • @Sean021122

    You're saying Nevermind wasn't unique?

Sure, that's why it completely changed mainstream music.

That's why it was the nail in the coffin for all the 80s bands.

That's why it sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

    Because it wasn't unique.

  • @BlackFloyd94 Ask Kurdt what nevermind is/was. He will tell you the same thing I am. It was a sucky overproduced overpolished pop record. nothing more, nothing less. And I love 80's music. It ended up killing off soundgarden's and alice n chain's metal roots though i will give it that. Thumbs down all the way! That was a bad thing all around for music. And if it never came out the music industry today would still be putting out viable acts instead of the utter crap posing as music today.

  • @Sean021122

Even though I like Nevermind, I do agree that the the producer too much polish on it. And they made it even worse with that shitty remastered version that recently came out.

  • @BlackFloyd94 I have the 'deluxe' version of bleach and matter of fact that record is thre only nirvana one I can listen to now. But still that version sounds a little to good too. That's the thing when they remaster or reissue stuff they end tarnishing the original mix and tone in favor or boosting up certain parts of it. I still like both versions of bleach, but I prefer the original, and that si usually the ase with anything. Newer stuff is way too processed now.

  • @Sean021122

I have heard both versions of Bleach and I think the original CD sounds a lot better.

Whenever they remaster an album, it seems like all they do is turn the volume way up.

  • @BlackFloyd94 So do you like the trees? They are my fav. band pretty much period. I would rank their albums form best to worst as 1)Clair-Voy-ance 2)Other Worlds 3)Invisible Lantern 4)Change Has COme 5)Even If... 6)Buzz Factory 7)Uncle A. 8)Dust 9)Sweet Oblivion. Of course 8/9 are irrelevant because by that point they lost Pickerel and the raw dirty innocence they once had. Sweet and Dust were shells of their former selves.

  • @Sean021122 I love the Screaming Trees I'd rank their albums: 1 - Invisible Lantern 2 - Buzz Factory 3 - Clairvoyance 4 - Even If and Especially When 5 - Uncle Anesthesia 6 - Dust 7 - Sweet Oblivion I have all their albums on CD except Clairvoyance and Even If. So I have to deal with low-quality MP3's for now. I really want to buy them but I can't find them anywhere. And I'll probably end up selling Sweet Oblivion because I never listen to it.
  • @BlackFloyd94 Yeah, they did a cd re-release on clair-voy-ance a year or two ago and it pumped up the original mix a ton. Actually that is one of the few re-masters that sounds good enough to listen to and may even be better than the original vlp sound. But I never had a record player anyway. I just bought 5 copies of the record because I love it and love the cover, etc. It is a collector's item worth over $100 now in lp form! I can look at the cover and and get lost :)Like a doorway into 86.

  • @BlackFloyd94 I just know there are other sst/velvetone demos they did that I don't have. I have alot of them btw from 84- to the end when they broke up. But my favorite trees era is other worlds+clairvoyance. Nothing sounds like they did on those albums. And then they got poppier and poppier after Even If... they couldn't handle being on th e major label and that's why sweet & dust are so overtly overproduced and overpolished,.They were never meant to be a mainstream band. Lee hated it!

  • @Sean021122

Yeah. It's astonishing how much they changed from 1989 to 1992.

When I listen to Sweet Oblivion, I really get the impression that they were desperately

trying to create the next Nevermind.

  • @BlackFloyd94 Well they did call my #4 fav Trees record "Change Has Come". And it was definitely intentional because they knew times and their passion was changing. I really believe Lanegan making his first solo record at that time as well as the Conners putting out theirs really shoved a wrench into the trees around late '89. By the time they moved onto Uncle A. they were already dead figuratively and the fighting was out of hand. But Uncle is still the last true trees record that I know.

  • @BlackFloyd94 If I were them I guess I might try to create a cash cow in 92 also. They had the singles soundtrack that took off and that was really the only thing that drew attention to them. I really can't stand "nearly lost you". It is so commercial sounding and untrees like. Yes the lyrics are true, but the sound is just so 'grungy' and contrived. The trees were never grunge in their heyday, mnore like a 60's throwback psychedlic punk tinged SST homage band. They paid tribute to sst earlier.

  • @Sean021122

Do you like Alice In Chains?

  • @BlackFloyd94 Definitely. But I prefer them pre-Dirt & Sap. Meaning their guns nr roses/metallica worshipping 80's beginnings are what I like most! Unfortunately all I have of theirs pre-sap is Facelift :( And maybe a live version of 'queen of the rodeo' which really shows their playful side. Layne's playful side. People don't get that they were a metal band first. They changed in 91-92 for the worse in my mind, I hate jar of flies also! But I did really like their last one, the self titled.

  • @Sean021122

The self titled album is my favorite too. Alice In Chains used to be my favorite 90s band until I started listening to Soundgarden. I was really exited when Alice In Chains said they were gonna be making a new album in 2009. But I ended up being sorely disappointed. "Black Gives Way to Blue" sounds more like a Nickleback album than an Alice album...

  • @BlackFloyd94 Oh yeh I forgot about the latest aic album. it's not really a true aic record. But yeh I never sold it like I did jar of flies. I actually think it's pretty swell lol. Swell meaning passable but not junk. But I don't listen to nickleback so I wouldn't know if it had the nu-metal sound or not. I don't like any nu-metal,,, But I picked up this rare import or live bootleg of soundgarden recently for like $2 called mind pollution or face riot maybe? Not sure, but it must be rare!

  • @Sean021122

Only 2 dollars? Wow, you got lucky.

  • @Sean021122 Face Pollution and Mind Riot are off of their album Bad Motor Finger. If you don't have it I think you should get the album.

  • @93limabean I know. I have had badmotor forever/ I even have the 'somms' version with 2 discs. The one I was talking about was some live bootleg they did around the time of badmotorfinger, never saw it anywhere else before...

  • @Sean021122 No dude. AIC were a metal/grunge fused band. I think they made some of the best stuff of the 90's Dirt was awesome and so was Jar of flies, I can't believe you sold that EP it's legendary now.

  • So i was humming a similar melody last night never having heard this song and my friend pointed out that it sounded like this song. Too freaking weird

  • @MusiqueEstLaVi just shows to prove that any great musician has thought of a great sound, soundgarden will be two steps ahead of them, lol

  • this is fucking amazing, love Soundgarden!!! <3

  • Génial

  • Soooo, ONE person disliked this, out of 211? Wow. Haha. That person clearly doesn't belong here!

  • 's funny. I really like Scream (the song). Its a really good pop song and nothing wrong with that. The rest of that album is horseshit

LET'S HUNT DOWN THAT 1 DISLIKER!!!

  • @jfoley715 Sub-Pop 200 amirite? XD

  • Why can't we just get along and listen to the music. Those putting down others for listening to a certain type of music or grunge band need to grow the fuck up. Everyone can listen to the music they love, and make comments about any band on this site.

  • I'm guessing Nirvana was listening to Soundgarden a lot when recording Bleach. They pretty much ripped this intro off in "School".

  • @IcantDiedeadenough I dunno if we're ever gonna get THIS type of grunge ever again. And post grunge sucks. haha

You can go for underground, punk/metal stuff. Closest stuff to old grunge.

  • @IcantDiedeadenough Yeah, I feel you. At least we can hear this stuff over and over again. :D

  • @IcantDiedeadenough Still one of the first, though.

    And they were all awesome.

  • @IcantDiedeadenough Nah, I got some Green River demos from 1984 uploaded.

    This was what, 1987?

  • Yeah! Ty for the great post!

  • that bass is kickin like a motherfucker, this is some bad shit right here

  • FUCK grunge, thats a lame term

this is one of the greatest rock bands of all time

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre you realise they were going for a grunge type feel to the song when they did it, it wasn't meant to sound this heavy, but come on, it is chris cornell, he doesn't know 'not heavy'

  • @bleeduntildeath Chris Cornell doesn't know 'not heavy'? Have you not heard Scream?

That makes me sound like a hater. I love Soundgarden, thats why i'm here.

  • @danielkay1994

i love em too but i can never forgive cornell for "scream"... let's face it we are lucky it didn't catch on with the public or SG might not be touring now. experimenting is one thing, and i like euphoria morning and the casino royale song but for crying out loud!!

  • Look seriously guys Wtf just because a song is popular doesnt make it pop idk why the fuck youd think that, but just cause nirvana was on the top of pop charts dont mean shit, say nirvana is rock thats fine say its grundge thats Better

but to say they were pop is completely fucking retarded

  • @darkcastlord Maybe not pop, but completely retarded, yes. I hate it when people are like "Kurt Kobain was the father of grunge.". I just wanna kick those people in the teeth. Nirvana was nothing but a rip off and a disappointment. Fucking suck it Nirvana fans. LOVE Soundgarden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @saintfredphelps How would you like it if one of your family members died and we went to their funeral and brought signs that said Thank God for Dead WBC Members? I'm embarrassed to share the same Planet as you let alone the same Country. You desecrate the symbol of this great nation and say you are doing right? Well if you don't like the USA, then GET OUT! I pray to God that Albert Snyder gets the Lawsuit money he is rightfully entitled to and bankrupts You and your whole cult.

  • @saintfredphelps you are all a bunch of closeted homosexuals who can't face the truth and hide it by being the most hated people in this country, protesting the funerals of people who wanted to serve in the military, to serve and protect the soil that you walk on. You harass people on the worst day of their lives for what? Because you have such a warped view on the world, that you see Dead Soldiers as punishment for our tolerance of homosexuals.

  • @saintfredphelps How do you live with yourself that you have brainwashed kids into helping spread your intolerant hate? How do you live with the fact that at any moment of the day or night one of your cult members could be killed because you have angered every red blooded american in this country to the point that anyone of them could come to one of your protests with a knife or a gun and proceed to go vigilante on your hateful asses?

  • @saintfredphelps it's blatantly obvious your a homosexual as you, along with the rest of your Cult spread intolerance, and hatred around to the people in this country that can't stand your guts. Which is why you get counter protested by several hundred people where ever you go, No one is on your side, God is not on your side, God is Love, not hate. The WBC is a cult, not a church. And you are no saint, your the devil incarnate.

  • @saintfredphelps 1. I don't swing that way, unlike you. 2. You and the entire WBC are not a Church, You are a cult. You go around spreading hate speech. You have no supporters outside your own inbred family. Everyone in this country hate you and your Cult, You take advantage of Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion to spread your hateful intolerant speech. It will be the ultimate irony when, not if, when God Casts you down to the fiery depths of hell.

  • isnt this off telephantasm?

  • @Metallicarulez01 ya but fopp came out before ultramega ok, i think they re-released it on telephantasm too

  • Thanks for jumping in unless you are Mr.11musicman. Two issues of Cobain and musical ignorance are separate points.

  • this song is epic.

  • I Read this used to be the your on hold music at sub pop records

  • Melvins Suck? Wow. Don't forget that Cobain worshiped those guys. You're putting your musical ignorance on display.

  • @Mraquanetchris Now I love the melvins myself, infact they're the only band I spend any of my money on at all whatsoever, but before you go talking about putting ignorance on display you might wanna check yourself best you wreck yo'self I mean really? Someones musically superior if they like a band just because a famous person worshipped them? Whatever bro

  • @Mraquanetchris Don't forget that Cobain SUCKED. Fuck Nirvana yah stupid shit. This thread is for Soundgarden fans.

  • fuck nirvana

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre You forgot to put an I there buddy.

  • @Mr11MUSICMAN nirvana sucks. nothing more than a Melvins Rip Off

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre Umm, what the fuck are you talking about? The Melvin's fucking suck. Guitar isn't very good at all. Lyrics are shit. Buzz or whatever the hell his name is sucks at singing. And BOTH their drummers aren't very good at all. On the other hand Dave Grohl is a very talented drummer as well as a very talented musician, Kurt's ok at singing, pretty good at guitar, and a very very good lyricist. SO FUCK YOU!

  • @NintendoSwii wow, melvins sucks? I dont need to read more

  • @NintendoSwii THE MELVINS SUCK????

    ARE YOU HIGH ON COKE!?!??!??!?

  • @Mr11MUSICMAN High on life to you sir... High on life.

  • @NintendoSwii might be high on life but a tool on music..Kurt Nobrain doesn't even come close to Melvins caliber

  • @NintendoSwii

what the fuck is wrong with you?

  • @J0NNO IF 7-11 IS OPEN 24-7 THEN WHY DO THEY USE LOCKS!

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre Uh huh...

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre Did Somebody named Nintendo say Melvins suck???? lmao....Kurts a punk and the musical world is better off without him

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre Fuck you.

  • If you guys think Nirvana sucks then check out all the Top Greatest Grunge bands videos! Everyone puts Nirvana at #1! I tried telling all of them that Nirvana isn't great at all but they say I'm an asshole! You guys gotta check out the videos and give Soundgarden and Alice in Chains the credit they deserve! One fucking retard even said Alice in Chains and Soundgarden are fucking Heavy Metal! Wtf is going on in this world!?

  • @NintendoSwii : Unfortunately, once Grunge became popular it filled the same sociological position Heavy Metal did as hard, rebellious music geared towards teenagers...

  • This song was the "hold" song for one of Sub Pop's offices.

If there was no one to assist you, you'd hear this song play.

I'd probably call them just to hear this song, haha.

  • @1stpKlosr2 Nirvana created some of the most haunting, visceral and morbidly sublime rock music ever. Even though Soundgarden is my favourite band of the two, Nirvana most definitely does not suck!

  • Im sorry but Nirvana does suck, especially compared to Soundgarden or Alice In Chains.

  • @1stpKlosr2

ohh hell yeah dude and especially compared to TAD, Mudhoney or the Meat Puppet. Nirvana was probably the worst, most overrated band ever to come out of Seattle.

  • @1stpKlosr2

pearl jam sucks ass well , but you can't forget mother love bone ,

    they kicked ass !

  • @saintfredphelps No you suck ass, you and your cult need to disappear off the face of the earth

  • @1stpKlosr2 AIC is a joke buddy.

  • @Mr11MUSICMAN Nirvana is a joke buddy.

  • @1stpKlosr2 Want me to send you a PM explaining WHY aic is a joke?

  • @1stpKlosr2 Pussy.

  • @Mr11MUSICMAN Its not that im a pussy its that I just dont care what you have to say.

  • People need to stfu about nirvana...were they less talented than this band...ofcourse....but, its because of Nirvana that caused grunge to explode, if it wasnt for them, not all but A LOT of us soundgarden fans probably would have never heard of them...sadly...

  • 8=====D

  • @ChaoticCodyINC

I go to this page often to listen to this song and, without fail, I laugh every time I see the dong as the highest rated comment.

  • Short but kick ass

  • Am I the only one who notice that Cornell likes to sing about dogs?

  • @voro122 nop, you're not the only one. But I'll kill myself if someday he starts singing about cats!!

  • STONER

  • sounds more like mudhoney then nirvana

  • Yep, just watched this after the Conan thing. They still sound a little raw and grungy. Don't think Nirvana was ever this hard?

  • it sounds more like check my brain by alice in chains

  • @institutionalized22 You mean Check My Brain sounds like this. It doesn't. Both are great songs tho'

  • @vicmal2112

, i might be thinking of another song i know it but i cannot remember

  • @institutionalized22 more like check my brain sounds like THIS, this song is old as fuck, Alice in Chains covered it once

  • hell yes.

  • i guarantee this video is going to have a shitload more views since the conan thing

  • @BadmotorfingerBand correct... been listening to this since '92 and now comes all the emo fuck kids saying they like this after watching conan

  • Yeah, all this talk about rock n roll and the devil........... I think organized religion is the true devil. Just look back through our worlds history and the blood shed it has caused.......... Having a belief is one thing............ Forcing it on or condemning others for not having the same belief is another.

As for Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger was one of my favs.... Brings back memories, saw them in Houston in the early to mid 90's.

  • soundgarden is on team coco

  • mm sexy, younger Chris in all his long-haired, sweaty topless glory! Love this song, it's one of the first few songs I like off Telephantasm!

  • @MissusFingerBottom Telephantasm is a greatest hits album, this song was released in their first EP I think.

  • @Mr11MUSICMAN yes you are right, it's their very first single

  • oh my, chris with hair and no shirt. totally approve, oh and the song too :D

  • I would have loved to see these guys back in the late 80s

  • @BSANONYMOUS good question.

  • @echocompany666 Indeed, I understand where your coming from, and I feel similar toward the subject. But everything you just said is adressed in that documentary, check it out it will blow you mind.

  • @MarsBringerofWar19 LOL your a fucking retard. I didnt say it was the devil, the documentary did...I'm just pointing out the documentary, its called Hell Bells the dangers of rock n roll, watch it cause you will find it hilarious.

  • I just bought the 7" single of this today at a record shop. It costed $10, but the shop owner decided to let me buy it with the $7 I had as long as I spread the word about his store, "Toxic Beauty". I snuck the record down my pants so my parents wouldn't see it and enjoyed it thoroughly when they were away. My first 45 RPM and first 7" record I've ever owned.

  • @TheLegitMan93 Why would your parents deny you SOUNDGARDEN?!

  • @KandyKabaret Because they believe rock and roll is of the devil.

  • @TheLegitMan93 there is a documentry on YouTube about the subject of rock n roll being the devil..its called Hells Bells The dangers of Rock N Roll.

  • @minorkatminor I hope you don't actually believe that crap.

  • @TheLegitMan93 What I believe is irrelevant. The documentary has a wealth of information about music, culture, and religion. I found it very interesting.

  • Wow, so this is how baby Chris sounded, I like it :)

  • @TheGoldenShamrocks hehe "baby" Chris..that's cute. Although he's all man from the start! hehe..hormones, down!

  • chris cornell gave layne staley his voice back after this album

  • I hear this song and think of some unearthly Space Squid... In the best way possible.

  • Soundgarden was truly a mix of Sabbath and Zeppelin put in the late 80's outstanding....

  • I love the opening lyrics.

"They saw you today as you were leaving, and they run to hunt you down. Dogs lead the chase as you are bleeding, they run to hunt you down."

    Very eerie.

  • @DieHardGardenFan I LOVE THAT SONG SO MUCH

  • one of the best Soundgarden opening riffs ever.

  • How can anyone think Soundgarden was/is underrated!?!? THIS Soundgarden is underrated, but that "Black Hole Sun" shit (and everything after it) was all over radio and MTV...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 And before as well.(Badmotorfinger)

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 i agree blackhole sun was all over but most of there songs din't do well on the mainstream alot of people waved them off as a one hit wonder which was sad.

  • @90srock : I dunno... I don't own any Sound
