  • the cqr anchoer was placed in a drag position so it would have dragged no matter how many times you pulled it, although the CQR or a plough is known and happens on time to time, that the falls on its side, with the arm weight holding the plough on its side and unless something helps to kick the nose in drag on it will drag. think of how many times you see others drop anchor then pull and re drop, usually because this happen.

  • @1stTAOW how ever the plough anchor when dropped right which is about 70% of the time for me, she sets with out a problem. but do some times not reset when dislodged. saying that i do like what i see and hear about the rocna, saving the pennies now. and techdavey1000 every one knows a bruce anchor has crap holding power :P sorry bruce(craw)

  • It looks to me as if the CQR has a tip which is too light. With CQR/Plough anchors that fail to set, attention to the tip is needed. The tip needs to be sharpened and weighted with a decent amount of lead. OK some cutting and welding will be needed plus of course re-galvanising but in the end one will have a good anchor. Fake anchors can be a real pain. I know because I've just been sold a "claw" anchor with flukes that are as blunt as the end of my dick. eB seller used a library picture. Duh!

  • Ive drug a rocna over hard sand and grass I had a lot of scope out with heavy chain. Seemed to me it set better on a shorter scope. I bet that cqr would set right away if the rode was angled up a bit as in real life.

Next time out I will try just enough scope to get it to fig in then pay out more.

I like the build quality of the rocna compared to say a delta. Note I never had issues with the delta. It's a great anchor.

  • This is such an unfair test! My original CQR has never dragged. You are putting the load on the anchor in your test at an angle that is parallel to the ground. When you are anchoring from the bow of a boat, you have the height of the bow plus the draft of your vessel plus however much rode you have out. You are always setting a CQR with an angle on the shaft...because that's how they were designed! ? Capt Rich

  • @captrich0905 The more horizontal the pull, the more reliable set. Why are we asked to have high scope? Less scope is a more vertical pull, which makes it more difficult for all anchors to set.

  • Rocna are the best Anchors... you only need to try one to believe.

  • Thanks for uploading these tests. Its interesting to see how different anchors work

  • At 2:43 it looks like the CQR shank says "25 LB CQR", but the text overlay says "35 Pound"... how much did the Rocna weigh?

  • It's definitely a 35 pound CQR. The video quality on YouTube is poor. Try clicking the HQ version and you'll see it better. the Rocna weighs 33 pounds..
