  • Common is an artist Cole is a product....this song can be felt Coles song is just creative.....I just don't feel his message like I feel this...

  • I cried after watching this...Fathers are so important <3

  • J.Cole one is similar but its not the same at all. In Cole's they talk about the issues before, you're not sure if the girl gave birth to the baby in Cole's and in this one you know for sure. Cole's show 3's three different sides of the story where this one doesn't.

This is a common theme of everyday youth, it's sad people are surprised when someone brings it up in a song and think have to be copying somebody.

  • tears flow whenever I watch this video

  • Who is J Cole? I came here to watch/listen to THIS song. A deep and powerful one at that...

  • I didn't realise Common has a copyright on the abortion issue.

    Classic track none the less.

  • 18 years he found out it wasn't his- Kanye West

  • @LivingNorDying LOL stop

  • I LOVE THIS SONG.

Whether J Cole got his idea from this song or not, he still did a pretty tight job on the song... considering this day and age we're in where people don't usually express true life issues in their albums. Props to J Cole on that note.

  • people can say j.cole got the idea from this but J.cole song is about the aftermath of abortion and the regrets, and how you change after abortion.

This is about thinking about abortion and not going through with it. i like J.cole but this song/video is way more intricate and way more deep.

  • @dagr8rylz There both great songs tho you can't deny that

  • This was when music was music.. I grew up on dis..

  • self control instead of birth control...thats powerful.

  • i reallly wish people would stop comparing cole and common i love them both

  • DEFFF where J. Cole got the concept for "Lost Ones". both songs and videos were so sick tho, if you haven't seen Cole's you're DEFINITELY missing out on something big.

  • we losing 2 many of ours, thats why we gotta recreate @mike_mad_ga

  • L. Hill's voice so heartbreaking when she sings "why didn't you stay..."

  • Wait what shorty used to mean something else???

  • this where j.cole got it only people who love music would no that

  • 4:32 goose bumps !

  • One of my favorite songs! sing Lauryn...sing!!!!!

  • where j.cole got his lost ones idea from????????

  • @THEMOVIE90 of course

  • @THEMOVIE90 I guess but nonetheles both this Retrospect for Life and Lost Ones are classics...

  • @THEMOVIE90

yea and 10 times better than J's

  • @MrThewmatic I don't think so J.cole came from 3 different perpectives not 1 like common plus J.cole sings his own hook does his own production. Really we shouldn't be comparing the 2 songs at all.

  • @TygaShawty Common goes back and forth between his responses to different perspectives, he didn't need to seperate them like Cole did. Also I'll take Lauryn over Cole on a hook any day.

  • @MrThewmatic Common talk to his unborn child on verse 1. 2 the mother its all his own perspective each time no they are not different is all feeling from one person. The hook was Stevie Wonder's the production James Poyser from the Roots. L- Boogie on the hook -3 points. edge J.Cole.

  • @THEMOVIE90 i thought the exact same thing. two awesome songs though.

  • @THEMOVIE90 Please don't compare J Cole's bullshit to this....lol

  • @THEMOVIE90 not really

  • @THEMOVIE90 Well Pac did Brenda Got a Baby before this and Pac was J.cole biggest inspiration

  • My mom n dad have been separated since I was 1. I've never seen them happy together. So personally I don't like divorce. But the sad thing is, everything happens for a reason...

  • Just watch J.Cole's Lost Ones. Very Similar.

  • "Must have really thought I was God to take the life of my son ..." OMG - Best. Lyric. Ever.

People love to talk about violence, drugs and jail taking out Black Men, but what about abortion?

I have been loving this song since it came out.

  • Long live real hip hop

  • Real hip hop exist. Endangered by hip hop prompting the opposite of this song. Fuck bitches, get money, not giving a fuck etc. These kids have no minds

  • @shawnwiggidy you are point brother if only more brothers thought this maybe the world would be a better place.Children need there fathers at home

  • ''I'm sorry for takin your first breath, first step, and first cry''

    For me, the best line...

  • This song change my entire view on this subject, $315 isn't worth my child's soul.

  • A real man would always b there for his woman and child

  • Shawnwiggdy. That's what's up

  • Like this if you saw Lauryn Hill in Australia 2 years back <3

  • how could you not like this song

  • as men we are part responsible for a woman's physical change through child birth so why don't we give them a life time of love,marriage....I have a daughter, her mother and I are good friends. we don't see each other in a relationship way.but we both share responsibilities. the next lady I court will be for the long haul...I want to say one day this is my wife of 10,20,or 30 years or more. I guess my point is why is it so hard for us to make a lady our wife?....

  • @shawnwiggidy I personally hate divorce but it's all too common in the black community, my dad is has a wife in africa and another child and tries to keep a relationship with me & my bro but its not working and I don't care whether I see or not because he has his own life. when you've been divorced with kids it makes shit complicated if your trying to start a new family.

  • Why didn't you stay?

  • I love this song and I don't agree with the entire message, but I'm saddened that so many are missing it. It's about responsibility, not whether or not the woman should keep the fetus. Protection. If they were thinking it through before this happened, a decision wouldn't have to be made.

  • @Animefreak242

Thank you for nailing the point. I totally agree.

  • All creatures of earth including humans thrive for live from day one that means it has a will to live and you are just making excuses when you say your only killing a few cells...correction...millions & millions of cells...a human life! You talk about humans like you just putting a mutt down or something! And to the other woman who think having babies is a trendy thing...stop...1 or 2 is enough, the world is over populated already!

  • You have the right to be responsible for your actions! If you having sex and get pregnant you and your man shouldn't make excuses to why you don't need or want kids to take a life! A human is a human from day one! Use protection or don't do it at til you're ready to take responsibility for your actions!

  • My mom & my dad loves this song. They say they was going through all the words Common said in this song!!

  • "$315 ain't worth your soul" that's right!

  • Thanks common for helping me when I had gone through this . . . And thx for inspiring me

  • Piękna mądra piosenka o życiu .Ten głos Lauren

  • why can't I hold back the tears (><)

  • its sad that such a great song is covered with trolls. do this somewhere else so everyone else can enjoy real hip hop.

  • 315 dollars ain't worth your soul...

  • always makes me cry....eventually

  • This is by far more depressing than the Stevie Wonder version of this song...

  • An egg and a sperm isn't a baby... tards

  • @kimsmells1 Buth they both can create one.

  • @aGwEENapple A seed can create a tree but it isn't a tree yet

  • @kimsmells1 I don't get your point. Of course it isn't yet a tree but it will form into one.

  • @aGwEENapple So, you don't take the same care with seeds as you do trees, every time you eat an apple do you think oh, I've just eaten for potential trees no, no brain function before certain amount of time, so no life

  • @kimsmells1 FOUR*

  • @kimsmells1 And maybe rather than worrying about aborting a few cells we should worry about the children already born with no food, money etc

  • @kimsmells1 If you know a "seed" is in the ground, you might take the caution to think of how it will be affected. I don't think that it's any of your business to tell anyone that they should abort their baby. If they want to have it, they have that right.

So, you were trying to say people shouldn't have the right to decide whether or not they can go through with a pregnancy?

If you want to take care of children already born, there's absolutely nothing wrong about that!

  • @aGwEENapple Yep, people should have the right. that is all

  • @kimsmells1 I can't believe you compared a child, potential child to apple seeds.

  • @aGwEENapple It's a few cells get over it

  • @kimsmells1 Did you remind your stupid ass that you started as "a few cells"? Obviously not, with your contradicting ass! If your mom would've thought of you as just "a few cells" then you wouldn't have been able to make your comments. You need to stop telling other people what to think, you can't change my mind. We all started out as just "a few cells". Abortion is not the easy way out. Regret, medical malpractice by "doctors" who leave women with dead babies inside to get infections? Please!

  • @aGwEENapple Well I wouldn't know anything about it so I wouldn't really give a shit, how about all the children that are born and abused, born and die of starvation...? You people only ever care about the woman having the baby as soon as it's born you don't give a shit any more.

  • @kimsmells1 You came to the wrong video! This song is about a woman who wasn't intent on neglecting her future child! The father was the one who was scared to have a baby.

I know people can only make decisions for their own selves, I never said people don't have choices but you don't have a right to tell people to think of potential life as just "a few cells".

We all started out as just "a few cells". That's how life starts.

Not every child is abused, stop exaggerating.

  • @aGwEENapple fuck me you're so retarded, where did I say that every child is abused? I said how about all those children that are abused, that are unwanted, that die of malnutrition, diseases, and I don't have the right? well that's what it is, fact! and the amount of fertalized eggs that women lose without realising.... If there is a God and they were so against it I'm sure that wouldn't happen. and my first comment was aimed at all the people going mental over abortion "ABORTION IS MURDER" BLA

  • Comment removed

  • @kimsmells1 Like I said before, you came to the wrong video. The song in this video is about a woman who WANTS her baby. W-A-N-T= looking forward to. Do you think anyone who wants their baby is going to neglect it? Possibility, but not necessarily likely. The man was suggesting the woman to get an abortion then obviously at the end of the song Common said "let's have this boy" so, I felt you bringing up neglected children was completely unnecessary. You're the confused, trolling retard.

  • @aGwEENapple Like I said before, that comment was aimed at the people going metal over abortion, so I think you'll find you're the retard, I think you will find it was necessary

  • @aGwEENapple Yup, A right to choose, that is all

  • DAMN RASHEED..YOU SHOULD HAVE GIVEN THAT SPEECH 2 UR GIRL..NOT A ROOF

  • omgosh how you not like this joint

  • "I'm gonna use self control instead of birth control,

    $315 ain't worth your soul."

    Amen

  • @1JNeri Yes, this is that threating "nigger".

  • @Donjuanmob What do you mean?

  • This is the man that Fox News was hating on because he went to a poetry reading at the white house?

  • "it's too many black women that can say they mothers but can't say that they wives." ... damn

  • @Michelleiiiam my fault, i was hacked.

  • i would NEVER get abortion

  • @xex421 I couldn't do that either if that why i don't have ssex

  • @xex421 what if u get raped

  • @xex421 you cant say that until you have been put in the situation its easy to say one thing when its not happening to you

  • @xex421 I would

  • @xex421 easier for your slutty ass to say right now

  • @xex421 Cool story. Just don't try to take that right away from other people.

  • @xex421 thats a strong statement, I bet there are a lot of women out there who would think and say the same thing. But then this world is sometimes too harsh with unpleasant and unthinkable acts from strange men that would be putting that woman in a very difficult decision process.

  • @xex421

yeah, and thats what most people who get abortions say..

i mean, i hope you wouldn't..but other people have different reasons to do that. yes, some women do it as a form of birth controll...and others do it for reason like being raped, or serious life or death issues.

  • common song are so cool love his style of music he is a real cool person in real life

  • Wow, this is the most heart-wrenching song I think I've ever heard. I have a lot of respect for Common for pouring his heart into the lyrics and sharing his pain with everyone, I hope never to face the decision he and his girl did and he showed me how much making that decision can eat at your soul, the visuals of the video make it all the more bittersweet, looking at the cute boy that could have been with dimples having the birthday party brings a tear to my eyes!

  • I miss Lauren hill and the emotion she put Into her music. thankfully she didn't pay 315 and is raising her kids, but hot damn one more album with some classic artists featuring would be rad before 2012

  • i hate when youtube says a certain artist is playing in my area and it's a whole different person WTF

  • 315 was the cost of the abortion

  • this is an awesome jam

  • this is an awesome jam

  • But it sounds like he sold his soul for $315 dollars instead of paying and losing his soul

  • i love this song

  • I don't get the $315 thing

  • @arcpsmth its the cost of an abortion

  • straght up - abortion is wrong

  • only 1 million views, smh..

  • 1:38 to 2:09 are some of the illest lines ever written in hip hop ever

  • $315 aint worth yo soul...needs no further explanation

  • Beautiful.
