  • Nice video, I remember when I was fourteen back in 1986 and '87 we used to visit Sarnia often to shop at the Lambton mall. I only lived in Port Huron for just over a year, having grown up in NJ USA, and now having returned nearly 25 years ago, but this is a nice memory. I gotta say that we just don't get spare ribs and french fries the same way here as there, but if you want first class pizza, you have to come to New Jersey. If you ever visit USA, come to Point Pleasant, NJ.

  • @40JRvs Thanks! :-) But sad to say the US is now such a hostile place I'm unlikley to visit there any more. I used to travel to Canada through Los Angeles or San Fransico, It was always annoying that they didn't let you just be a 'transit' passenger and pass through as most countries do, but instead forced you to go through Customs and than BACK through security to get to your onward flight. now add scanners and shoes off and frisking. No thanks. Most airlines now route around the US.

  • @linuxluver I am very sorry to hear about that. I do have a friend who has recently gone over to your side to visit Niagara Falls and had little or no trouble. But please realize too that we are currently having a problem now with terrorism and so fourth. The Arab world hates us because we support Israel and because we have laws in our country that protect women and minorities. So we have to be very careful. Please don't take it personally. You are always welcome to visit my town.

  • excelent video, t.u. good memories

  • I was born and raised in Sarnia and recently moved to Edmonton, Alberta. Sarnia is a beautiful city to live in and grow up in. (Copied and pasted from below). Loved the video - hated the "music". so I gave it a "thumbs down". If you're going to put in music, why not put music that everyone will accept??

  • @getdusty1 Thanks for the comment. Absolutely true about Sarnia. The hot summers on the beach were awesome when I was kid. As for the music, "music everyone will accept" doesn't exist as far as I know and Moby is a very popular guy.....I get few complaints. Plus it's my video and I like it. :-)

  • @linuxluver I said I loved the video.

  • @getdusty1

Ever heard of people may like different types of music other than yourself?

  • @RickMercer4PM ...all the time. I was just explaining why I gave it a thumbs down. Is that a crime?? I guess I should have just given it a thumbs down and not said anything huh??

  • I was born and raised in Sarnia and recently moved to Edmonton, Alberta. Sarnia is a beautiful city to live in and grow up in. I didn't think I would miss it this much. When I lived there, I couldn't wait to leave. Now I can't wait to go back! I find that people take for granted where they live (wherever it is). Sarnia is a very scenic city with next to NO crime, nestled in between beautiful Lake Huron and the St. Clair River. I can't wait to go back!

  • @HabsFan13TN Wave next time! LOL!

  • @linuxluver sarnia or as i call it shitsville ontario

  • @zack199544 I like Sarnia's situation and climate.....but the part I found hardest to deal with was the dead patch between the ears of most people who live there. NOTE: I said "most", not all....so don't be offended if you see yourself as curious, awake and thinking. You probably are. It's the others I'm talking about.

  • @linuxluver yes but i live on queen and devine street and its like hookers and crach deads every were and you cant relly drink tap water here because of the the valey and the water is filled with toxic waist and i have friends that have died from swimming in the water from mercurey and if you look up 2 headed puppys in sarnin (aamjiwnaang) ramond and sharon fisher relly good friends of my dads animals on there farm got sick from drinking the water and died and i cant fucking spell to day

  • hey i live there

  • did you hold your breath when you were driving by chemical valley?

  • @CoreyHartRules LOL! No. It was a really clear, crisp Spring day in early May. No smells or other sensory wretchedness that day.

  • You made me homesick watching this.....lol Been gone from Sarnia 4 yrs now....miss it. Great job!

  • @karebehr Thanks. :-) Glad you liked it.

  • ahhhhhh fries under the bridge ohhh the best .... i only get them once a year now when i visit

  • @MrChancebandit They're good, eh... :-) I was there in December '10 / January '11....but no fries.

  • Yay Sarnia!! Was born here, moved out for a few years.. came back about 4-5 years ago and still here! I love it :D I live downtown atm in an apt building, I look out my window and Ican see ships coming up and down the river, and the states - best part of all, you can see storms coming from up here before they get to ya!

  • Cool, is that states across there, looks like I could just swim right across and be in the states, so easy.

  • @JamesReadythe5th

I don't think that you're accounting for the current in that river, man.

  • why did you do this??? ha....

  • @dkt081994 I like moments in time. I'll make a video and see it a unique moment or series moments from a unique perspective - mine - in that place at that time. These will be things other people know. Through my video(s) they can see them, access them in motion...and either learn a new things(curiosity)...or remember old things they know but can't presently see or access (nostalgia)

  • I drive down that street everyday!!!

  • Oh whoa, its so beautiful. I might be going in 2 years hopefully. xD

  • My dad grew up in petrolia and i lived in sarnia since 3 years ago

  • omg i live in sarnia

  • i use to live in camlachie moved to sarnia. I miss the country

  • @ErikGunshot yeah same here about 7 or 8 houses down from reids variety...

  • Matthew Withers? My nephew.

  • BG/Camlachie= best towns in the world ;)

  • @xxmegsaxx My brother and his family live in Bright's Grove. I'll be seeing them for Xmas. :-)

  • @linuxluver does he have kids, if so, they might go to my school (:

  • @linuxluver

Shame you couldn't film the valley at night. Even that industrial mess looks pretty when all of the lights are on.

Have fun in NZ, it's a beautiful country, though not quite as, I guess, majestic as Canada.

  • @lesterclaypool1 I've been in Canada the past month for Xmas and New Year. I was in Sarnia just before Xmas and again for 4 days through New Years. It went up to 10C one day and all the snow melted! I especially liked walking down by the lake, with all the ice and snow along the shore. .....took some great photos and video. :-)

  • @linuxluver im in sarnia right now ,,, its cold but not to bad ,,, its the damp wind that get you ,,,, peace

  • Nice beach, I don't think I have ever been to Sarnia.

  • i live in the point and its a whole different thing. We have sewerage and not septic tanks. we are an independent village. and proud to be from the point. SARNIA IS THE BEST!

  • BEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!!! WOOT!!!

  • @KrazyKlay135 Especially if you like near the lake. The beaches 9and beach lifestyle) are awesome in the Summer.

  • I was born in st. joe's, my dad lived here when he was a kid, most of my dad's family lives here, ya i'm pretty connected to this city.

Best city in the world SARNIA, ONTARIO going down there july 23rd to see my family with my parents.

  • @hotd14 That's my birthday. Have fun!

  • @linuxluver happy birthday!

  • @KrazyKlay135 Thanks! ....and I'll be back in Sarnia for Xmas and New Year. I live in New Zealand these days.

  • Sarnia is a lovely city. I was born and raised here. I hate when people say it's a hole or a pile of shi*. What's so horrible about it?

  • @CanadiAnnie I agree. Sarnia is one of Ontario's best kept secrets. The lake, the beaches, the warm weather (by Canadian standards), close to large cities in the US and Canada, & just big enough to have almost everything you need right there. The downside I could see living there was people there tend to not be open minded. They don't think too much beyond what they're going to buy next if they get some money. You won't find people thinking about the answers to life's big questions in Sarnia.

  • hahahahahaha i used to race my fiero down the lot 1:45

  • I live there 2

  • lol you went by my house

  • Point Edward not joining for taxes too be better for them ,, :P

  • i love the fries!

  • I live in Sarnia. you sure captured it at it's best months...Other wise Sarnia is a pile of S***

  • I know what you mean. Sarnians can be dreadfully conservative and close-minded. But at the same time, there are thinking, aware and curious people there, too. The challenge is to find them and hang out with them. Almost by definitions thinkers amid the unthinking tend to be loners. They have to be. No choice. But Sarnia has some of the best weather in Canada and the lake and beaches make for awesome summers. It's big enough to have all the services. Make your own world there. Or leave. :-)

  • man BULL! i love sarnia and wouldnt change a thing by water ... near to family , states right close! its beast

  • @Bathoric95 TRUE THAT!!!!!

  • I love my city!<3 SARNIA FOREVER x]

  • Thanks for taking me home.

  • Actually Canatara Park is part of the City of Sarnia AND Point Edward(check a map or the official web site). It was never a farm, it was swamp land and sand(that's why there is all those big oak trees). It was once part of the St. Clair river before a sand spit formed to create Pt Edward. Part of the old river is Sarnia Bay and Lake Chipican. In 1932 Mrs. WJ Hanna donated money toward the purchase of the land but the city had to pay the rest of the cost.

  • Actually, Canatara Park is part of the City of Sarnia... not Point Edward. It was once a farm and the widow lady who had it last gave it to the City, on the condition it be maintained as a public park and not used for overly commercial purposes. Otherwise, we might have a beach resort similar to Grand Bend, or Wasaga Beach here...

  • Thats my hometown woooo!!!!!!!!!

  • hahahahah this is where i live

  • i live their to the water level has dropped in canatara park

  • I live in Sarnia

  • you went passed grampas house xD

  • Wow, Sarnia is close to Vancouver? That what youtube says hehe.

  • This just makes me miss Sarnia now =( Thanks a lot.

Ottawa is way too big compared to Sarnia and i miss the familiarity Sarnia had for me.

  • remove the stupid music

  • its boring here

  • so fucking boring

  • I linked to Sarnia from a Wikipedia article about Lake Huron and I said to myself: "Self, I wonder what Sarnia looks like." And then I clicked over to YouTube and this was the first vid that came up. Thanks LinuxLuver and thanks Youtube for quenching my every curiosity with a few keystrokes. Todo el mundo en este segundo. Also, Moby was a good choice.

  • I've only been to Sarnia once or twice but I liked it and think it could be a great place to live . Thanks for this video.

  • it is believe me

  • 5:27 Bridge fries yahhhhh!!!!

  • ohh u fergot to show that u can eat on the rocks lmao

  • 3:40 is in point edward

  • Yep..I think there is an overlay around then that sez so, too.

  • yeh there is haha i live in sarnia but awsome fries mmmm.... any wayz

  • Dude thanks a lot for the vid!

    Lots of info.

    I appreciate it.....

  • Hello Everyone. First I would like to thank you for the nice video and the nice music for that matter :). I am student at the University of Ottawa, and I am moving this summer to Sarnia for an internship. I am looking for a place to live, and I would really appreciate it if someone could recommend somewhere close to a supermarket and the chemical plants. I don't have a car or a driver's license so a nearby bus station would be a plus too. Thank you very much for your help.

  • it might be a bit tough for you without a car to get to plants since there r very few buses that go that way (there might be just 1 that goes towards ESSO but thats it i think) and there r no supermarkets close to plants. plants r sort of on one end & supermarkets on the other. but at least its easier to access supermarkets by bus. If I were you i'd bring my bike, coz if you find a place close enough you could just bike. I know a few plant workers who do that. Wish all the best!

  • I dont really miss Sarnia, but i miss the past experiences. Traded it for Muskoka, then Banff Alberta. Things seem to have changed at least a little. My Doctor used to be Dr. Withers lol. Small world. I used to race my cars in Canatara as well. Might have been my camaro....LOL.

  • wow even though almost ervery other person has said this i'm gunna say it too.... this brings back a lot of memories haha.... i wish there had've been more of bright's grove though lol that's where i was born and raised up until just over three years ago when i moved down here to pittsburgh.... i remembered so many things when i saw this video like St. johns church out on the lake in B.G. and the fries under the bridge are amazing

ps nobody down here knows what a poutine is :O

  • nice video

  • people cant get enough of sarnia it seems lol..... i guess im lucky to live here

  • Sarnia is one of Ontario's best kept secrets. The lake, the beaches, the warm weather (by Canadian standards), the proximity to large cities in the US and Canada.....and just big enough to have almost everything you need right thee. The only downside I could see was a narrowness of mind and a tendency to be unthinkingly conservative....more rooted in ignorance than experience. If you like free-thinking, Sarnia isn't the best place. Toronto is better for that.

  • Couldn't agree more about the conservative lean. That's one of the reasons I was glad to move to Toronto after 36 years in Sarnia (and Corunna). And yet I still need to come back, not just for family, but because it'll always be home, warts and all. Sometimes I'm surprised I didn't leave sooner. Other times I'm glad I stayed for as long as I did. Even when my family is gone, I'll still need to come back. ;) I'm sure most people feel this way for their hometowns.

  • Oh yeah, and the city's too white. ;) I see more Asians and Indians and other world cultures now than I ever did during my entire time living there, so it's good to know Sarnia's finally mixing things up a bit like every other city its size and bigger was doing a long time ago.

  • When you drove by the Tim Hortons I was like "OMG I KNOW THAT PLACE" and I remeber going there for breakfeast, Lakeshore road and Waterworks road, and at 18 seconds when you drove past the "Suncore" place with the big field and the bastball diamond and tenis court, I couldn't belive that, My cottage is on The road that you just passed, Lambert drive, My step gramp use to own all that but sold it, The street is named after him, I love this video, Thank you for taking your time to do this!

  • call411info: Glad you enjoyed it. :-) I have done a variety of "drive-by" vids for a number of small towns in New Zealand, too and get similar comments from Kiwis who now live far away from these places. I have some video from around Toronto and will put something together for that - like a ride on the Queen St streetcar on a summer afternoon.

  • Wow, New Zealnad, I loved to see the sights you have, I love Sarnia,I'm acctuly going to my cottage this week-end, I hope to walk on the beach and go to all the places I seen in the videos.

  • Albert's! They have the best fries! They're a restaurant now I guess, near Salvatore's.

  • You almost drove past my house.. hahahaha you were 2 streets off .. how funny

  • BTW, you missed Centennial Park, sight of Bayfest every year...corner of Front and Exmouth is a restaurant where some parking can be done for events like this. Actual park is over the nearby hill. A Tim Horton's is up Exmouth St. just past Front St. (I happened to be there during this year's Bayfest. =D)

  • End of video passes Hiawatha Horse Park - you also called Lambton Mall a strip mall...they just don't want a second floor, but having one would make sense if they can fill the storefronts...and I am also an original resident of Sarnia, original home downtown but lived on Brimwood Crescent until Sept. 14, 1990 (and if people at 1063 read this...you're in my old house! Please say hi!). I'm in London now, myself. =)

  • chemical valley the worst smell of sarnia they're getting rid of it..well good riddance

  • Thanks for taking me out for a spin!

I recognized every place on your video.

  • WTF! ahhah thats my house at the start of the vid!!

  • Glad you're included. My brother has his house just down Maidstone.

  • Thanks for this video. Born and raised in Sarnia. Now live in So. Cal. Weathers better here but I sure get homesick. This video calms it for a while.

    Thanks again

  • bridges in the point ma-facka...not crappy sarnia

  • Yay! The middle east. Sarnia Arabia! People out west believed me! Born in Sarnia, raised in Bright's Grove! Thanks for the Sunday drive!

  • haha at 2:56 is where my friend accidentally crashed her car and knocked out all the green poles

  • Ooops! :-) That would have been embarrassing. I was there the first night after they put the speed bumps in the parking lot by the beach back in the mid-70's. Guys had been using the parking lot as a drag strip. Anyway, this guy came flying in at high speed in his Camaro and roared down the asphalt....BANG!!! Sparks flying everywhere. He'd ripped the manifold and exhaust right off going over the first hump. We laughed. He cried. A fun night.

  • was that cope?? haha noobs.

  • ahahah i live here

  • What is the name of the music piece that starts the video and what group performs it?

    Thanks for letting me know.

  • Porcelain by Moby (figured it out by Googling the lyrics).

  • Good. :-)

  • Love this vid! Ahh, Lakeshore, love that drive, Oooo, looks cold at the lake shore. I spent hours at Canatara as a kid. I grew up in the Point. Oh, you drove past the tulip tree in bloom on Michigan Ave, that's just around the corner from where I lived on Victoria Ave - where there was only one bridge! Mmmm, fries! Extra vinegar please!! I used to landscape at the plants in Chem valley: Dow, Imperial, Suncor, Shell! Thanks for the trip home. I'll watch this whenI get home sick...most days :)

  • You're welcome. :-) I was born in Sarnia.

  • XD, Yay, my house XD jk but i do live close to the bridge, btw, its point edward by the bridge

  • Yeah....the words "Point Edward" appear briefly just before I get to the bridge.

  • Hey my name is Rene and I've been living in Beijing for 8 years. I haven't been home in almost 4 years and I have to tell you that I so enjoyed your video. So tres cool!Bet you had no idea that you would make someone in China so happy with this lttle video

  • One world.... :-)

    Thank you!

  • its quite a bit different now, like its alot better theirs more mall and downtown is finnaly really starting to come back after the tornado in the 1950's that demolished everything.

  • Sarnia's downtown has been more or less killed by the malls out on London Road.....Not much reason to go downtown unless you need to go to the federal building or city hall.

  • but with all the new condos its coming back

  • dude it look EXACTLY the same, i live there

  • wow . this brought back a lot of memories. i havnt been in sarnia for like 10 years.

  • LAKE HURON!!! I LOVE SARNIA!!! SARNIA NARNIA!!! WE LIVE In NARNiA!!

  • Im sorry but i think another narnia comparison is the last thing sarnia needs.

  • Ahh but thats why we have the chonicals of Narnia AND I MIGHT BE PART OF IT :P I'm in choir at school

  • I actually think it's funny. I just moved to Newmarket and when people ask where I come from and hear my answer, the most hilarious look comes over their faces as they say "YOU LIVED IN NARNIA?!"

  • HAHAHAH narnia!

  • hahah you showed my house when you were filming lakeshore rd haha weird.

  • Then....even weirder....I drove by your house (yet again) yesterday before I left Sarnia for London. :-)

    No camera this time, though.

  • hey very cool clip i like that to see but i hate a lot the first song until 4:17 anyway lol , very powerful industrial like city

hope to visit this city someday

    rock on sarnia

  • WOOOHOOOO sarniaaa,,,fuckin borin im at lambton college BOOOO!

  • hmmm...i was fine in St.Helens...then it shut down and i went to St.Anne and yeah i was made fun of most of the time >.>

  • Yeah it all looked real nice untill the plants came into the shot. You should have got some footage of the kenwick building. the local skaters over on techumseh and all around town.

  • I have the footage.....but it was already a way long vid....so I kept (my) "key" features: Lakeshore Road, Beach / Canatara, Bridges, downtown (a little), plants, old neighbourhood, malls....402... :-)

  • I live in Sarnia, born here too :D Funny, a poster below me said their from Seattle...wanna swap? haha I'm road trippin to Seattle in a few year!

  • Glad I could help you out. :-)

  • I'm really glad I found this. I was born and raised in Sarnia, but haven't been there for many years.

  • Youmay also want to check out user "mdw216". He does aerial vids of Sarnia using his model airplanes. He has some good ones from this past winter over Sarnia bay and the downtown area and also around the Bluewater Bridge(s). I'm subscribed to him, so if you go to my channel and look at who I'm subscribed too, he's in the there. Or search on mdw216.

  • Cute Video!!! We lived there in Sarnia in late 90's and had a very fantastic time walking under the bridges and gobbling up ice creams and fresh fries. :-) Would love to see the "ship" building on George street, and the library on Vidal.

  • OMG it's when BG didn't have a tim hortons! omg, that was so long ago.

  • The Tim Hortons is there...I just edited it out. Who wants to go to YouTube and look at Tim Hortons!?

  • sweet vid. I'm heading to Sarnia in 41 days to visit a friend. Looks nice

  • Sarnia is nice. The southern part of the city is older and has some character. The northern part of the city is newer and looks more affluent, but suffers from stripmall-itis. The beach and lake shore are an awesome amenity for the whole city. I have many excellent memories of summer days spent on the beach and in the lake.

  • Nice I'm staying right by the lake I'm looking forward to spending time with my girl on the beach and stuff. I'm even more exited now!!

  • Moby, the horror

  • :-p

  • Very nice travelogue! I live about 60 kliks from Sarnia. Welcome if you are still here!!

  • I'm not there right now but will be back soon. :-) Thanks!

  • i love this vid ^^ also a god song with it :)

  • Glad you like it. :-)
