  • but... i´m not really sure about the internet theory about the curiosity... I think internet don´t "kill" the curiosity, internet takes the curiosity to his highes level... I don´t stop one second from discovering new things, every day I find wonderfull and mysterious things and, some times, scary things too...

  • The more I hear Steven Wilson talk, the more I realize how sharp he is. He is much more than a great songwriter and a musician. He is an unassuming intellectual. We certainly need more like him around.

  • Passport comments are dead on. Get out there, i love FoaBP for that exact reason. Im Australian and its exactly the same here, disconnection through media to the point of shell-like groups. Yes groups, individuality is long gone. So get a passport and get some unique culture!

  • I couldn't agree with someone more, this man's ideas about the world are beautiful.

  • great interview. very interesting views, it's good to know that some of us are capable of thinking in this plastic bag full of chewed bigmacs and non-stop live tv.

  • Damn! damn good interview...!

  • it's always a pleasure to hear an interview from SW.

  • his hair at the top annoys me... xD

  • @Metaalhoofdje123 Then you suck!

  • Really good interview. Some very interesting questions and answers. I think this is one of the more revealing interviews Steven gives on his attitudes towards today's culture. And I wish I could get a free passport this Christmas, ha!

  • love this album, and Steve offers so much insight here in this video. he's very well spoken

  • What song is it at :56-1:01??

  • Anesthetize

  • Thank you!

  • Get him out of that echoey room, I can't hear what pearls of wisdom he is dispensing!

  • ye,,, sound is terrible, the same in that interview where he speaks about Opeth. That one is even worse. I'd like to listen to, but I can't hear almost anything.

  • @GenericInsect1979 Love your comments, after 2 years :)

  • Is he Christian?

  • I think he's Atheist, listen to the song 'Intermediate Jesus' for example.

  • I think he aligns more with Agnosticism.

  • definately not christian, as NTFavorit said the song 'Intermediate Jesus' shows it, and also 'Halo' is anti-religious.

i think he's atheist, dont know why, just a feeling i got

  • More agnostic, I think. He doesn't really go around toting that he actively believes in nothing. Just against religion itself.

  • I think not just only teenagers have lost their passion and curiosity on this world, there are a lot of people out there feeling miserable, we live in a hectic-rush world that we don't have time to feel that we are 'alive'

Steven Wilson, have you ever been in Iceland? or

Finland??? I want to be curious :)

  • Hello I am a teenager, who love Heavy Metal, Prog, and all that Great music.

    I am no a Fjortis!

    He is really right, dude.

  • Hi THECLASH1994, well, that's good, let's enjoy the good music.

    \m/

  • Wow.. I really wasn't expecting that prominant of an answer for the final question.

  • No matter the interviews and no matter the subjects being brought up, Steven Wilson always has interesting things to say.

  • Damn, so much of this is spot on. The passiveness of our generation. He put words to a lot of my thoughts as of late.

  • This is incredible!I admire this man talking as much as I admire him performing.

  • I see columbine in a diffrent way... but he is just brillant...

  • Good interview, very informative. Thank you very much for posting it.

I love Porcupine Tree, and I really like Steven Wilson. He seems like such a down-to-earth, intelligent, genuinely interesting guy, so unlike all the numerous poser "rock stars" with their ridiculous sex-drugs-rock'n'roll philosophy. His attitude and his whole demeanor are truly refreshing.

  • I agree, Steven Wilson has never taken a drug in his life, which I really admire.

  • hum....... err....

  • Ewanmac must be joking

  • I have known PT since their early days in the 90's. I am sooo amazed how popular they have become. First time I saw them it was an audience of 100 people in NYC!!! congrats!! Steve Wilson.

  • Passports...Yes.

  • DT and PT dominate music

  • No question the fanbase has been the prime mover for increasing PTree's profile. But the move to a major label, and corresponding tour support, seems to have helped as well.

  • Geez, that was just brilliant. "Passports"!! This makes me want to go out and create something. ^^

And dude! They're taking a year off? Well, I guess after so many years of hard work, they kinda deserve it... v_v

  • Steven Wilson is an absolute genius! Second only to Peter Gabriel.

  • Thats so true about the fan base thing,

PT are the only band for me where its been the case that I can bring people along and create a few more fans!

  • ye he same thinghappend with me thats how i found out about them my dads friend saw hem loved them took me and my dad loved we loved them and now i tell my tfriend and they love them and so on

i have listend to porcupine tree for a long time and have seen them grow with the fan base i think its amazing

  • Steven Wilson is the mother fucken man, such an inspiration, drives me to write music, make films . . . Hopefully more ppl realize this before he leaves us, and respects him for what he has done, and what he has given us.

  • leaves us? as in dies? he doesn't have cancer does he? haha yeah absolutely, I think more and more people are catching on though...

  • Also...For some people these are words to live by - at 7minutes10seconds...

  • I don't agree on the passport comment. The American currency has become so weak compared to the past decades that they can hardly be put next to the British pound sterling or the euro nowadays.

I mean, I'm Belgian and London for example is like a 100 leeches on my body sucking me dry. If it's expensive for me already I doubt Americans could find it (very) affordable. It's not about the passport, it's about the price.

  • You are correct, but that is a relatively new development. More than a year ago it was next to nothing to travel to Europe (at least) but in my personal experience with living in the US for 10 years now (and I am from Bulgaria), most US citizens are not even intending on getting a passport. Provided that it takes a single trip to the Post Office to do that - still they hesitate. Just an observation though...

  • Dude, that's a complete copout about price. Years ago, when the Australian Dollar was at an absolute low at or around 50 U.S. cents, I spent about three months in the U.S. Price wise, it hurt like hell, but I still did it.

  • Furthermore, whilst I've met some really cool Americans in my travels, most Americans simply don't travel and have no interest in the world around them. Amongst other places, I spent more than a year wandering around eastern Europe before it joined the E.U. (as well as Russia), and outside of Prague, Budapest and Krakow, where they're "like totally doing eastern Europe" you'll never meet an American. I met plenty of Brits, Aussies, Germans and Japanese. Totally different travel aesthetic.

  • Of course, that's another trend I did notice, but I'd rather not keep prejudices, because there are some Americans who do travel, I work in a hotel so, I do see them around.

  • Nah they just waste there money on buying burgers.

  • i love PT and DT and although live James Labrie can sometimes oversing a bit he's still an awesome vocalist tho

  • I was expecting DT to be much worse when I saw them (like on the DVDs) but James Labrie actually didn't even piss me off, but I still hate his vocals hehe. anyway...

  • Pt is the best band ever. DT is a good band, but James Labrie ruins everything live. He sucks live. And Dream Theater do show off a little much. Porcupine Tree allways serves the song, and when they jam its just so special and good.

  • "DT is a shit band. very skilled musicians, but a shit band. this man, and PT, are saving music."

Couldn't agree more. I've been following PT for a while, and it's insane, the way they've become popular the last months.

  • DT is a shit band. very skilled musicians, but a shit band. this man, and PT, are saving music.

  • Sad, sad, sad comment at around 9:00.

  • I like his comments on how life is not valued much by many, and his opinions as to why.....

As for his gift of passports (?) - hey Steve, travel is expensive. Especially to we americans. We can't just pop over the border ya know. I'd LOVE to visit some of the places you mentioned.....

  • His point is that 90% won't even travel. Thats sad. Pathetic that people won't even see the another part of the world. It doesn't matter how often, just get off ur ass and see the world.

    STEVEN WILSON=GOD

  • This man is amazing. There isn't anything he says that i disagree with, except his views on DT, but i still respect that.

I'm 15. When i listen to Fear of a Blank Planet, it just makes me feel all the more guilty that i fit the description of the teenagers he's talking about. but i'd like to think i still have passion in me to look to the future - in fact, hearing him talk about it only inspires me more

    hands down, he's a god.

  • I know how you feel man. I'm 20 and have been hating life and living in my own misery since I was 14 or 15. But the man makes perfect sense.

But what do you mean about his views on DT? I thought PT and DT were in love with eachother.

  • Well I think he said he didn't like the music, but he's good friends with the DT guys. He apologises for it on their track Repentance saying he "tends to express opinion as fact"

    interesting interview here:

    progarchives dot com /forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=37160&FID=47

  • Well Steven Wilson IS producing their next album. So saying he said he doesn't like their music wouldn't be too accurate.

  • Im glad bands like PT and DT are bringing back good music :"}

  • He is so...INCREDIBLE!

  • excellent. mr. wilson is a wise man. i saw them in concert with my new boyfriend, who now loves them! talented beyond words and destined for greatness! learning and loving rules!

  • He is my god.

  • getting my passport tommorrow

  • Another great interview! Thanks a lot :-)

  • LEGEND.

  • Fear Of A Blank Passport

  • ahahha. XD

  • love him <3

  • great interview. Thanks! :)
