The major reason was that 20 Russian peacekeepers were killed by the Georgian advancing army and by the Georgian peacekeepers, the same peacekeepers they had to work with to enforce peace in that area. All of this was perfect for Saakashvili; The night before the Olympics, he wanted to take Tskhivali in a blitz attack, but he did a HUGE mistake;Killed Russian citizens.
