  • "you know, try to make it sound high prized and good, like this, DUNNG DUNG PFFT PFFT PFTFTFTFYYYFPFT. It just gives it a really water like sound."

  • if your a newb drummer, dont listen to idiotvillage. become enlightened by Evans drumheads sponsored BOB GATZEN. Just search for his tuning videos here.

  • yeah you're right, I can hear that watery bass drum sound through that digital camera microphone

  • someone should muffle all these tuning experts !!

  • forum series?

  • The expert village must be crumbling and falling apart. Wow, the villages auto mechanic guys screw up everyones cars. The hunting dudes starve everyone and the music experts drive the villagers to violence thru horrific tunes. If you somehow found the mythical "expert village", it would look like the last 40 minutes of "Titanic". People running aimlessly while everything blows apart.

  • FUCK expertvillage

  • @fillecool2 you can have the beaters on the plastic side if you want. (DUH)

  • i was looking for a joke, and i found :)

  • No. Wrong.

  • enough muffling inside?

  • enough muffling inside?

  • why is this on expert village....

  • Beaters are dual sided guys...

  • just get the evans emad 2 head duhh

  • HAHA, beaters at wrong direction.

  • @fillecool2 I agree that this is not the best tutorial. However, those bass drum beaters can be used with the felt side striking the head ..... OR the plastic side striking the head for a more impact sound. They're not in the wrong direction, it's a matter of preference.

  • sorry i think you got it all wrong, its simple just get a super kick 2 and a kick pad patch and do not put nothing in the drum, maybe a little muff on the front head to control the punch of the drum.

  • dude.. do you even know what you're saying half the time?!

  • My god, dude, learn how to tune your drum. If you do that, you won't need to put anything in and it will sound beautiful. Oh and also turn your pedals around. That will drastically change the sound of the drum and make it sound better. Come on, man!

  • Comment removed

  • dude, your kick drum sounds fucking awful.

  • Hell if he's an expert than what am I because he's just making shit up to look cool but he's dead wrong. Putting a sticker does not change anything. Putting a PAD is a whole different story. Goober

  • Comment removed

  • @KDWorldBrickPix first off, the word is beaters, and no they are not backwards alot of beaters now are double sided, plastic and felt, and alot of drummers use the plastic side for more attack, and the felt has less attack

  • Comment removed

  • why are ALL of the 'experts' in these damn videos just the worst-informed, worst-spoken noobs around?

  • This is seriously a load of bullshit.

  • tttt TIMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • Why the fuck are the drum pedals backwards?

  • @Thrashsmash97 theyre not they are dual sided, a plastic sideand a soft side, both give complete different sounds.

  • i'm pretty sure he's just making shit up

  • welcome to the idiotvillage...

  • Instead of sending your time CRITICIZING the guy on this video, since you critics out there are SOOOOOO F**KING AWESOME, why in the bloody hell don't YOU make a video a post it? For starters, the kid can't be but 15 years old... don't you people have a soul?

  • Man, some of the people that comment on here are totally relentless... as if YOU weren't completely clueless about drums at some point. Nobody is born knowing how to play an instrument people, and instead of bashing someone for what seems to you like a stupid question, you should be helpful and share your knowledge without making people feel awkward. What ever happened to motivating fellow musicians? And don't rag on this kid in the video. At least he's trying to help others. Geez.

  • instead of filling the drum entirely with pillows, you might as well try sand bags or better yet, cement. surely it'll improve the sound of your kick, lol.

  • instead of filling the drum entirely with pillows, you might as well try sand bags or better yet, cement. surely it'll improve the sound of your kick, dipshit.

  • "Crackng within the bass drum"????? I dont know about other people but i dont think ive ever cracked a bass drum before. I must be such an 'expert' if my bass drum has cracked!!!

  • lol even ur pedals are backwards haha wow

  • this is why some people shouldnt have drumsets.......

  • @thechillindude1

Your a total douche bag and I hope you remember what it was like when you were learning how to play. Your a piece of crap for talking smack about someone who's just trying to help other beginners, even if he doesn't know much himself, at least he's trying to make a difference. People like YOU shouldn't have mouths, because they only spit out venom at helpless people. Your a sack of crap dude.

  • @JupiterCrashIntoMe your pretty gay.

  • @thechillindude1 Ooooooohhhhh! I'm gay!!!!! You totally told me OFF! WOW! Pat yourself on the back. Your a WINNER. Pfft.

  • @TheNichivisg would you like to come and show this "dumb arse" how to do it without damaging the drums?

  • @TheDanoDude buy a drum key (same thing you use for tuning and there only like 5 bucks) remove the head with the key and put the pillow in. And screw it back on

  • OK cool, I already know about all of that. What I want to know is how do I get the pillow in there.

  • @TheDanoDude take off the skin and put it in dumb arse!

  • @TheDanoDude u take off the head and insert it? duh lol

  • if i was an evans bass drum i'd be depressed if you were playing me

  • expert village really knows where to find those experts XD

  • Looks like your kick pedals is backwards

  • Just want to point out that stickers are no good! They won't reduce anything but dmg to the head.

  • .....omg .....can someone point me to someone who knows what he is doing? Please.

  • I want my 2.18 minutes of my life back!

  • no a pillow chokes the drum and makes it sound bad and metal in the drum head does not make it sound good..it takes 4 things 1.type of beater 2.type of head 3.tuning and 4. muffling

  • Im starting to think that expert village does retarded videos on purpose.

  • why did u ruin an emad :(

  • @elsdrk93 Its ExpertVillage, what do you expect? xD

  • if you need THAT much dampening. (ie. huge pillow, thick muffling ring), you are doing it wrong

  • wow. that sounded like sht... lol metal plates?... this guy is clueless... wow. anywho i tune my bass with the batter head tighter than the other head. opinions??

  • @TheDrumdude99 I keep my batter loose and keep the resonant tightened pretty high, and I love the sound I get from it. :D

  • @KNOWYOURENEMY1518 thanka man!

  • @TheDrumdude99 No problem sir!

  • but he is good in acting like he knew what he actually talks about

  • i 've never had a problem myself with my head cracking without a sticker on it...maybe i need to kick it harder huhuhu

  • dude if you can tune. you dnt need anything in ur bass with the emad

  • He says "really" WAYYYYY to much. Dumbass.

  • This guy is just guessing his way trough the video.

  • LOL a bassdrum that sais "tit tit tit"

  • @Ahead5ABC =)) ahahaha

  • All the idiots talking shit need to shut the hell up. It's annoying. Everyone likes their own sound. If you like this video then go on and use it. If not, then don't. Plain and simple.

  • Why is everyone saying it sounds like shit? What's making it sound shit is the distortion from the fucking camera microphone.

  • Dude... Expertvillage seriously needs to stick to the experts. This young man here is an idiot. I don't claim to be an expert drummer, because I'm a total noob (the reason I clicked the vid in the first place >_>). But I wouldn't try to teach anybody anything unless I like, ya know, didn't suck.

  • that sounds like SHIT

    expertvillage sucks camel dicks

  • cmon guys...yes this video sucks and he has no idea what the hell hes talking about, but he's only trying to help you out. give him a little credit..

  • @sjsharks69

    NO!

I won´t give idiots credit to tell other newbies wrong things!

It is no wonder that everyone does it wrong if you teach them wrong!

  • @Mcattttt maybe you should teach something =)

  • Did your boyfriend give you that bracelet?

  • Dear Expert Village, I highly suggest you change your name because you, my feeble-minded friend, are NOT an expert. In fact, this is really terrible youtube instruction. Who is this kid you've got here? He does NOT sound like he knows what he's talking about. He sounds like you gave him a 5 minute explanation as to what he needs to talk about and he made up the other half, trying to sound smart. Get better instructors, or get the fuck off of Youtube.

    Sincerely,

    Muffin337

    P.S. Fuck you

  • this guy has no idea about what hes talking about you dont need muffling for drums you just need to have good drum heads and tune properly and your drums will sound fine .

  • @kkirstian damn right for longest time I had pillows in my bass drum because I never wnated to tune it just last week I took them out and decided to sit down and learn to tune the damn thing and it sounds great better than it ever did with pillows i, doesn't even ring out like people told me it would.

  • Watery sound?

  • watery sound......?

  • thats not so good

  • im sorry but thats not a very good video

  • why the pedal punchers are looking the opposite way??

  • @spiraleontas They have two sides. The felt side, and the opposite side, which is plastic. And just for your information, they're called beaters, not punchers.

  • @spiraleontas i do that its for more attack ,but if you doo it buy protection pads .

  • putting metal in the "sticker" .... its a pad you moron, doesn't give it a more T T T sound, if you want a more metal sound then its all in the skin you choose and the tuning, WOW

  • @joeyman24239 pretty sure he means click pads -_-

  • Horrible video... Horrible, horrible, horrible. Bass drum sounds horrible and you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • I <3 the dislike bar

  • my grandma can muffle a drum better than you and shes dead :O

  • yeah watever!

  • @ben13drummer A wet sound? That makes almost no sense. If you want a wet sound, then jump into a swimming pool, LOL. I don't quite think your reply was relevant to the persons question, but yes, I suppose you are correct, sorry for my silly joke.

  • I lol'd at the description where it says Expert: Jake Jorgensen... Funny because it's not true..

  • are the beaters backwards, lol?

  • @SlayingMinion Nope, it is up to the possessor of the beater that decides what side they want to kick on; there is no right or wrong way. If it was made to be used on only one side, then they would have made it only one material, but they made it have two different sides so it would be your choice.

  • Lol jazz drummers don't play heavy on the kick.

  • Haha watery sound, more like watery shit >_>

  • dude, your pedals are backwards

  • @thesaxophonedude lol no its prefrence some people like the felt side of beaters and some like the snap of the rubber side and like he said he likes the metal snap so yea but that bass drum sounds ugly lol

  • @thesaxophonedude No they aren't, dumb dumb. Those batters are made for you to choose which side you want to use. Some people have it on the felt side, some have it on the plastic side. Plastic = hard rock and metal, felt = classic rock, jazz and blues.

  • @SuperChamona no, they're backwards

  • @thesaxophonedude There is no backwards. You can turn them anyway they want. It is made for the plastic side and felt side. Almost everyone I see with those kind og batters have them on the plastic side.

  • @SuperChamona ur a freakin idiot

  • @thesaxophonedude No sir, you are a "freaking idiot" because you still cannot grasp the fact that you ran your mouth against someone more experienced than you.

  • @SuperChamona ok, you are offically an idiot

  • @thesaxophonedude No sir, YOU are one considering you think when you buy a beater, you have no choice but to turn it on the felt, rich part, when most people prefer the plastic sound (including me) much better and they purchased the beater. Also consider how many people do what this guy does. He is an idiot, sucks at teaching and has a crappy sounding bass drum, but I had to stop ya there.

  • @SuperChamona first of all, who prefers the plastic sound??? and another thing, your a, let me spell it out, I-D-I-O-T

  • @thesaxophonedude Let's see.. Just about every hard rock and metal drummer in the world..? And me.

  • @thesaxophonedude They prefer it for it's punchier, clickier sound. Most felt sounds too moosey and dull to me.

  • @thesaxophonedude

It's "you're" not "your", genius. Priceless!

  • i like the bassdrum!

  • this is shit

  • Holy fuck that bass sounds like shit literally....

  • Y does everyone give him so much shit!?

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS A WATERY SOUND?!

  • holy shit that sounds terrible

  • @nbryc...ok so go home if u have 1... go turn your beter around... n gve us a video of it... n if u rely so good n know everything why not show us all...so u feel cool now for calling me a jackass...! I dont go down to ur level of ppl.. sorry..! oh n go read down I said ppl like me try to learn n might be taught wrong.. meaning still learning these things.. only red the 1st line.. so shows u.. u cant finish what u start.. if u cant even succeed in reading 5lines how u gna succeed in life..!!

  • @Cjthemetalangel Don't be so sensitive Mr. Crybaby.

  • its not his tuning that sounds bad... his beater on the peddle is the wrong way around... the white side sup 2 be infront... so guy... jst turn them around..bet it will sound alot better..!! ppl wane comment instead of finding the problem..! but if u wane do something lyk this.. make sure ur ryt... coz ppl lyk me that try to learn might jst be laughed at if taught wrong..!

  • @Cjthemetalangel No jackass, those are DW beaters. They can be used on either side. The reason this dude's bass drum sounds so bad is because he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing, like all expertvillage videos.

  • Comment removed

  • @nbryc seriously asshole? Lets see you do better

  • @iamthewalrus3654 Wake up fuckface. The videos put up by expertvillage are well known for being completely useless. One only needs to watch a few to figure that out. Now quit trying to be an internet hero you fuckin' douche.

  • @nbryc i used it and it worked. Im not trying to be an internet hero. It works for me now lets not start going back at each other

  • it sounds like kesha when she throws up

  • FCK YOU!...Are you for sale....

  • they spelled bass drum base drum. shit lickers.

  • the hotwire ad at the beginning of the video was more informative

  • Do you really hate the Evans company that much?

  • holy fuck... ive been playing drums for like 4 months and i dont know shit about tuning drums... and my bass drum sounds better than that. a LOT better. your trying too hard.

  • you suck expertvillage get some beater blockers and put a bigger pillow inside.

    Terrible video.

  • @connerm191 Or better than a pillow, they could show us that there is shit you can buy that is actually made for this.

  • how about moving the words so we can see?

  • Expert village has three videos about this topic, none of which contain any useful information.

  • wow..tuning a bass drum has got to be the easiest thing in the world and could have been explained in 3 seconds....what a moron. You could use a pillow, the size varies on what kind of sound you like. Cut a port hole in the front of the head for miking and it also carries the sound so your bass sounds as loud as the rest of your kit from the outside...Muffler rings are good, also do a great job. Companies also make "half pillow" that mounts inside the bass drum. Also very effective..

  • WHY WONT YOU JUST TAKE THAT EMAD OFF ...AND PUT A CARDBOARD BOX ON IT :)

  • huh? If what your saying is true what's the front head for? how would stuffing it full of blankets let any sound out if your playing it acoustically? Duh! Bass drum tuning is sooooo simple!

  • emads suck, get a super-kick II

  • @TheDrummingMexican96 emads don't suck there really good. but they might suck for your bass drum. because not all drum heads are going to sound good on every drum kit. plus do you know how popular emads are? a lot of professionals use them

  • @drummer4life54 dont get me wrong dude, they sound amazing ! i know, but the eternal muffle ring rips super easy, and yeah lots of pros use them because yeah they sound good, but they can also aford to replace it whenever it breaks/rips. they are expensive heads

  • You have your beaters on backwards! Unless they are double sided......

  • @TheDrummingKid12 He prefers the "Tt tt tt" sound of the plastic side lol.

  • @BJCResource hahahahaha!

  • @iTraceur haha ya. every now and again there is a good one...but usually it sucks.

  • sounds like crap

  • "hello im from expert village u kno wat u need a watery sound ", u dumbfuck u need a dry sound and wat the fuck how are u a drum instructor a cardboard box filled with blankets god dude did he get this advice from drums for dummies

  • wet sound maybe? what the fuck is watery xD and if your muffling it your trying to make it dry not wet, and it sounds like shit anyway

  • wow thats horrible tuning.. i have the same head on my seat and it sounds so much better... dont teach tuning to other ppl please. everyone watch the bob gatson or gatzon vids.. im not sure how u spell his last name but hes amazing at tuning

  • So Horrible they can't even Mic these videos right!XD

    This is Sad !

Someone take the drumset away from him!

  • Is this a joke?

  • watch the eHow videos instead...

  • Dick head take up the cello or trigger the bassdrum

  • wow................really? I think i may have just became less intelligent after watching that.

  • Looks like a clothes dryer

  • next time, get a decent MIC.

  • NO!! don't muffin!!!

  • So it took this guy 2:17 to say "Muffle the damn bass drum with something soft"

  • doesn't he know that pillows are for sleeping? here's an idea. take the pillow out of your drum, get a remo falam slam patch, loosen up your batter head to little or no tension, and tune the resonant head to a medium tension. then play! it takes some getting used to, but its louder, punchy, and you actually get a tone out of it. (works well with emad2, eq 4, or powerstroke 3.)

  • What a load of cods!!!

  • Fuck me you talk shit...

  • u don't need the pillow anymore

  • man please just try to turn the beater from the soft side and take off the pillow it screws the emad's aim which is to muffle the bass without having anything in it but if u still want to have something on it take a soundproofing (i dont know how it is called)thing and put it in the drum but at the edges i mean like it is circled to take the shape of the bass drum jesus man..... and see the description it says :jake jorgeson bio:jake jorgesEn.....
  • @jeiemSBW

why do you put enter so many times in your paragraphs?b Are you writing a fucking poem or something, like what the fuck!??

  • @BondedByBlood616

    xaxaxaxaxaxaxa

its a little bit funny, i tried to read my comment like its a poem

    xixixixi

    im just used to iy

    xaxa

  • TheRevJr1)i kno right dumb people

  • WTF!? You have an Evans EMAD! You do not need that pillow in the bass drum! All you need is something big enough on the front bass head to reduce the rattle and controle the overtones. I swear these people from expert village are not very bright... -_-

  • wanna know another cool sound for a clicky sounding bass drum? Turn the beaters to the side towhere the plastic side is hitting the bass drum.

  • if the bass drum was tuned a little better and the blanket or pillow was not filling the whole bass drum... then that would get the good sound of the bass drum.

  • Get that pillow out, it's a bass drum not a washing machine.

  • god this is awful!

  • How does the pillow distort "the sound waves going through"? . Fucking retard. A pillow is meant to reduce overtones.

  • Why don't you get a cardboard box and fill it full of blankets? This is the worst sounding bass drum I've ever heard...ever. Terrible video.

  • this video sucks but to answer your question the neaters are on backwards because some drummers believe it adds more of a punch to the sound since it is on the plastic side

  • Why the hell are your beaters backwards?

  • I do exactly the same, Plastic side gives your kick a harder attack, rather than the softer felt.
