  • I want this video on my OT-E801 unit.

  • I am questioning where the offending forms of remarks are.

  • Wow thats amazing!!

  • I live about 5 miles from that Lilac street 270 exit.

    Have you been testing the tap water?

    Please post if and when you get any detections.

  • Uhohhh

  • Thanks for this great eye opening video. Driving has now become even more hazardous to our health. I am truly appalled, but not surprised, how they just think they can expose the population like this. I have to wonder exactly what the source of radiation was in the trailer of that truck.

  • Wow.  Excellent video!

  • If this is true...WHY WOULDN'T YOU WARN THE DRIVER? Any logical person would have stopped that truck, stopped traffic, called 911 and had the problem taken care of. You could have made N ational, even Worldwide news, drawing attention to this horrendous problem. instead, you drive by, and make a damn youtube video. where were your heads?

  • @usadexter really? how successful do you think they'd be waving their arms and yelling at the driver to stop in the middle of freeway traffic? also no, they would not make national news; this truck falls within legal confines (as bad as they are). this video is enough to prove that they are dangerous. and any driver hauling radioactive material should know well in advance that he is being exposed... chances are, they probably don't care or know about the dangers.

  • Is the geigercounter they are using registered?

  • After some research, a person next to a truck legally shipping radioactive materials could expect a dosage between 10 mR/Hr to 200 mR/Hr.

    According to the government, a pregnant woman should avoid anything greater than 2 mR/Hr. At max, if she stayed next to a legal truck for more than 15 minutes should would be required to wear a dosimeter for the rest of her pregnancy. A woman early enough in her pregnancy to not know she is pregnant might miscarry from a passing "legal" exposure.

  • The Transport Of Radioactive Material. Some people really think that people that are educated in particular field [designers of containers, engineers, rules etc.] don't know better then 2 scared bloggers with camera and pos geiger counter? What did this video accomplish? That we transport radioactive material every day? Who didn't know that? You are flying with radioactive material, not just riding past, so think about that! OMG!!! IT'S AN EVIL SCHEME TO GIVE CANCER TO HUMANS!

  • @rabieschu, you might be right. But even if so, it's not acceptable! Here's the relevant section of the Code of Federal Regulations :

    NRC Regulations (10 CFR) PART 71--PACKAGING AND TRANSPORTATION OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL

    § 71.14 Exemption for low-level materials.

    (i) That the LSA [Low Specific Activity] or SCO material has an external radiation dose of less than or equal to 10 mSv/h (1 rem/h), at a distance of 3 m from the unshielded material;

  • uhhh, 0.3 MREM is nothing... you get more than that on an airplane, and it's well within legal limits... fear monger elsewhere.

  • @TheBlueMeanie, here's a Geiger counter in a jet @ 38,000 ft: watch?v=466a3qgHT6M

    It measures on avg < 0.2 mR/h, which is not more but *less* than this gamma truck.

    But a big difference is that counter has a real-time (constant changing) output but potrblog's Inspector outputs a 30-second average updated every 3 seconds, which makes its response slow; in fact, over one minute : watch?v=bdlJzZYCEwM#t=4m40s

    The Inspector had about 3 seconds at closest range, so its 0.3 mR/h output is minimal.

  • Here is a question to anyone who says the situation was safe and/or legal:

    "If a pregnant woman is stuck in traffic next to a radioactive container truck operating at its maximum legal limit of radioactivity, how long should the pregnant woman remain stuck in traffic next to that truck before she should flee her vehicle for the safety of her child?"

  • Obviously that truck was only carrying cigaretts -- EVERYONE knows that the cause of all cancers is cigarettes -- they must be radioactive, too. Couldn't be any ionizing source or the truck would have pictures of dieing people on it as a warning like they are doing to cig packs /sarcasm off

  • holy snappin' old butt sphincters...

  • Another great, outstanding example of how Truck Drivers take it up the exhaust pipe by the corporations they work for. They assume all the liability for the corporate trucks, spot drug and alcohol tests... all for ...do the math.. about $10.00 per hour. Oh, you can make zum money but you gotta put in long hours. Use these people up.

  • 1:06 "that's about half as hot as we've detected in the rain here in missouri"

    Missouri rain is radioactive?

  • @lifehackertips At least since Fukushima. I track it on my blog site POTRBLOG.com.

    Here is a video of one storm that produced radioactive fallout rain at 62 times greater than background watch?v=bdlJzZYCEwM

  • Excellent work catching and sharing this. Big thumbs up!

  • what if this truck goes to car accident and load will fly out?

  • given that this section of 270 is notorious for accidents, I don't want to know the aftermath or the fallout had one of these trucks were involved in one.

  • Why didn't you holler at the truck driver to let him/her know they were driving inside a low grade microwave oven?

  • THE MEXICAN DRIVER THINKS "RADIO ACTIVE" means "THE RADIO WORKS"...??

  • not using device properly.

  • Where Can I buy a radiation detection device for reasonable price ??????

  • How amusing, the few people who understand radiation and are correctly telling you these are nominal levels are being overrun by idiots pulling data out of context from wikipedia and drawing the wrong conclusions from it.

    Common people this is 3 uSv, that is less than the background radiation in Colorado.

  • @serialsoft, "the few people who understand radiation" would tell you that:

    (1) there is a difference between gamma rays and "background radiation"

    (2) the Geiger counter never stabilized long enough to get the true high reading.

    (3) the Geiger counter is calibrated to Cs 137, and that if we knew what the actual radionuclide(s) are/were that the reading might yet still be even higher

    (4) its better to explain things in terms of Sieverts, than letting people know the equivalent death/cancer rate

  • @serialsoft, it's not half Colorado background radiation, you just made that up.

    Here's a Geiger counter in Denver, Colorado : watch?v=jfIf4SE1sew#t=1m14s

    Here's a Geiger counter in Crestone, Colorado : watch?v=Uu_Ml7cOGwE

    Compare those low click rates to Geiger-click cascade by the truck 0:45 !!

    And if you watch potrsblog's other Geiger-counter videos you'll see it takes a while on a hot sample to reach the maximum count, much longer than the fast flyby reading on this gamma-hot truck.

  • According to the IAEA, on average we receive 2.4 mSv/yr, [1] which is equivalent to 240 mR/yr. [2] Given 24hr * 356day = 8544hr, avg exposure in hours is 240/8544 = 0.03 mR/hr. The truck in this video with just a few-seconds reading reached 0.3 mR/hr, that's 10x the average radiation-dose rate.

    [1] Google: IAEA Radiation in Everyday Life

    [2] Google: Radiation - Dose Equivalent

  • "The Radalert Inspector Alert measures alpha, beta, gamma and x-radiation using a 2-inch pancake GM detector with high sensitivity to common beta and alpha sources" - In other words, you have no way of knowing WHICH type of radiation you are detecting. But it does make it sound good and scary to say the truck is emitting "gamma rays". Also, please switch to using the Sievert scale like the rest of the world. 1.0 mrem = 0.01 mSv. So you recorded 0.003 mSv/hr. You get more when flying.

  • @SewEyeSea, he knows it's mostly gamma because the truck has a *metal* exterior shell, and a metal panel will stop all alpha and most beta radiation, leaving only gamma. So his assumption that its gamma coming out is reasonable.

    Moreover, Associated Couriers (@ acistl com) says "95% of our vehicles are lead lined." If this truck is lead lined, it's all gamma for sure.

  • Wow - Unbelievable! Am I the only one surprised the truck was actually placarded "radioactive"!?!?!

  • @Dunkerly1978 Yes

  • where's homeland security? we live in a world that only the sheep have to obay laws!

  • Unfucking believable!

  • AAWWW JUST SHUT UP AND TAKE IT like a good little american sheep

  • WOW! ridiculous.

  • I feel bad for the driver and his family. I think it's safe to say has no clue he's getting nuked. Dude probably moves this crud 14 hours a day 5 days a week.

  • They probably will glow in the dark tonight

  • Obviously the USA is now a Third World country. I was going to take a vacation there. I'll go to China instead.

  • @jsiuksta USA is NOT a country because it does NOT have a king it has a president. USA is a coorporation .

  • That is insignificant exposure.

  • ahh big deal, I just ate tuna fish from a can and my throat started feeling slightly raw and irritated. Probably the Corexit and the hydrocarbons in the fish flesh. Not the first time this has happened to me either. Anyone else?

  • @lannlann I eat sushy everyday and now i can shoot lazers beams out my anu$.

  • @septicbrainfluid

    haha!, then I am increasing my intake of tunafish

  • @lannlann Just don't eat the Radioactive Peaches recently found in a California market,

    see POTRBLOG.com for the details

  • @septicbrainfluid LOVE IT

  • Nothing to worry about ! If anyone gets sick all they need to do is cash in their ration of the Obama guy care! See how nice ?They have you covered!

    That is if it doesn't cost too much to fix you up.. Lets keep the Queens Rio Tinto uranium mines in business so the Prince Billy and Katey can have a little spending money to visit America! You complainers are such conspiracy nutz!

    Everything is fine.Lets just go back to our television shows and posting all our private information on Facebook!

  • @TheVeryMuchSoShow Radiation poisoning is usually only detectable in the blood when you have been exposed to 25r/hr thats 25000 mr. And this is not enough to kill only enough to be detectable. The real insidious thing about low levels of radiation exposure is the damage it can cause to your genetic structure.

  • There is no safe level of radiation period!

  • Perhaps the spill is an accident. Did anyone notify the company?

  • What the fuck????

  • WOW

  • Associated Couriers' website is @ acistl (dot) com

    They say "95% of our vehicles are lead lined." Wow, if that was coming through a lead-lined truck, it must be as hot as hell! Tom @ antiprotons found that a lead box lets a surprising amount lot of gamma through : watch?v=ltPkko4yC5M

  • Dependable, Safe & Experienced

    Associated Couriers is a specialized carrier of nuclear medicine dedicated to the service of our customers and a healthier society.

    When you ship Radiopharmaceuticals or other time sensitive freight it will arrive safely and on time. Your material will be shipped in one of our company-owned vehicles ranging from delivery vans to tractor trailers.

    No job is too big or too small.

  • WTF In Europe, these transports are made only by rail.

  • Assuming that you were about 10' from the side of the truck and that the scale on your meter was showing 0.311mR/hr, and discounting any shielding effect of your car windows, then using the inverse proportion law means that the dose rate at the truck side panel was between 300-350 mR. If the truck driver was 4' away and you discount the shielding effect of the cab and seats, he would have been receiving about 20 mR/hr. But the shielding in fact would have reduced the dose rate significantly.

  • @Pistol76 I am very rusty at making these calculations so you can check it out, my mind struggles to keep up these days. I1 / I2 = D2 (Squared) / D1(squared)

    Where:

    I1 = Intensity 1 at D1

    I2 = Intensity 2 at D2

    D1 = Distance 1 from source

    D2 = Distance 2 from source

  • @Pistol76 the inverse square law is I1 x d12 = I2 x d22 (that is d1 squared and d2 squared)

    I1 = Intensity at D1

    I2 = Intensity 2 at D2

    D1 = Distance 1 from source

    D2 = Distance 2 from source

    So if your I1 is .311 and your d1 is 10, and d2 is 4 then we are solving for I2. so the formula would look like this I2= .311 x 10 squared divided by 4 squared then I2 is 1.94375 mR/hr

  • @quevongold you went the wrong way, the formula is for moving away from the source, not toward. D2 is 10' and D1 is 4', I2 is 10' , I2 is 0.311 solve for I1which is at 4' or for an I1 at 1' which is just outside the wall of the trailer. But like I said, I am bad to get confused these days so I can certainly be wrong, just ask my wife lol.

  • @Pistol76 very simply put the inverse square say that if you double your distance from the source of radiation you quarter your dose of radiation. This is also true in reverse. So if the dose is .311mr/hr at 10 feet then if you move in to 5 feet the dose would be 1.244mr/hr. And I did the formula correct.

  • @quevongold Thanks, I guess that I am getting too old for this then.

  • @Pistol76 its np the known dose of radiation is always I1.

  • Oh my god, I'm buying one of those detectors. I bet people in the middle east and africa would like one too after having depleted uranium weapons dropped on them. Good way to offload your nuclear waste on someone elses ,land.

  • However there is no safe level of radiation.

  • I didn't read all of the comments so please forgive me if i have repeated something. I would have you people do a little research before you jump to conclusions about whether this truck driver is breaking the law. Please look up 10CFR 71.47 (a). You will find that the truck driver wasn't doing anything illegal.

  • @quevongold Screw your illegal. The politicians are immoral almost to a man/woman and they make things that are immoral into those that are legal.

  • blah

  • God bless America from sea to shinning and radiating sea.

  • .3 mR/hr? Really? That's nothing! Get a hold of yourselves! The normal person picks up 100x that in a year just from normal background radiation. You pick up 50-100x that with a chest x-ray. Low level radioactive waste is shipped across this country on our roadways every year most people just don't realize it.

  • This is silly. Even if you stood next to the truck for hours, you wouldn't be subject to significant radiation. You get a higher dose every day from the potassium in your bloodstream. You get ten times as much from a normal cross-country plane trip.

  • that is crazy! sickeningly poor regulations

  • Comment removed

  • What gives off gamma rays?

  • le délire le plus complet ! ils sont fous ! c'est quoi ils veulent que la population profitent des bienfaits du nucléaire !! PFFF protégez vous

  • Did you notice that the car behind it looked military? And that the driver has on a uniform hat? That is SO illegal!!!!!

    Thank you for the video and travel safe!

  • @TheMagicfish33, If you watch the video full screen in HD @14 to 16 seconds you can see the guy in the hat raise his arm and duck to avoid being on camera. It is an interesting maneuver considering the camera was coming up from behind him.

  • well done measurements

  • whaaT???is this normal in america? When we transport nuclear material in germany...it will be per train followed by an aramada of police and shit...what the fuck is wrong with ur country...World Leader? pff

  • @TheNoCoincidence + 100000000000 man !!!! wtf ! they are fucking crazy .

  • @TheNoCoincidence thumbs up to that, from america..

  • @TheNoCoincidence Nothing's wrong with our country that an Adolph like you couldn't fix.

  • @TheNoCoincidence all kinds of screwed up stuff is normal here, sad to say.

  • @TheNoCoincidence Well this is the USA.tHEY ARE RADIATING US PREPARATORY TO FLYING COMMERCIALLY WITH UNTESTED BODY SCANNERS PEDDLED BY mICHAEL CHEROFF,THE iSRAELI EX-HEAD OF hOMELAND sECURITY.

  • @TheNoCoincidence WTF is wrong with your country. You started two world wars and got smacked down both times. It took another 40 yrs before you were ALLOWED (by OUR good graces) to be one country again ... Master Race? pff

  • @grizzzlyjoe

    You jumped up poseur. You did no more than the bidding of powerful men who wanted to loot Germany and ensure it didn't reach its true potential, since that nasty little tribe which actually rules your worthless pretend state. You inherited the worst of the Nazis who went to work in your CIA and inner government and that is why you're a disgusting example of fascist failings today. Germany always made you look like the retarded uncultured useful idiots you are.

  • @GrassPossum Say what you will, your defensive stance is both predictable and understandable. The reality is that the best of your intellect either fled the country to survive before WW2, or were murdered by a few psychopaths with the assistance of your easily subverted people; the end result was the castration of Germany.

    You've been ALLOWED to continue to exist because the victors did not exhibit the same barbaric traits as your people, otherwise you would have become the "fuel" of crematoria.

  • @grizzzlyjoe lol.i knew some people would play the nazi card.. no wonder....no wonder

  • @TheNoCoincidence If the shoe fits ... wear it.

  • @TheNoCoincidence "what the fuck is wrong with ur country...?" A: It's controlled by psychopathic jews (I'm being redundant I guess)

  • @TheNoCoincidence ....is that what the German government tells you? ....and you believe it?

    pretty naive.

  • @TheNoCoincidence this country is finished...its a 2nd world power and going down fast!!

  • There is over a million tons of Depeted Uranium world wide. There are over 1800 tons of Plutonium Worldwide. There is no place to put this stuff and we keep making more. Hemp fuels emit no radiation.

  • Sooo, does he have super powers or not?

  • Did anyone Call the truck Company or news or anything?

  • They don't care about truckers I had a friend that use to remove the spent fuel from nuclear subs he has one eye left deaf in an ear has cancer surgery every 6 months. He said when they would bring this fuel to the dumping site all the colors of the rainbow was surrounding that location.

  • His children will be born with 3 eyes

  • hallucinant que dire d'autre?

  • :(

  • call the #

  • Holy shit , I would hate to be the driver of that truck someone is going to be sterile.

  • This is like watching someone dying, except you cannot hear the screams.

  • Driver probably doesn't realize. I was going to note what you do in description, the reading would've been far higher had you stayed by it.

    This has to be a violation and you surely caught the tip of the iceberg. The NRC and the DoT regulate radioactive transport. Please call this DoT office:

    Hazardous Materials Information Center

    1-800-HMR-4922

    See also: nrc.gov/materials/transportation.html

  • @GoddardsJournal Considering that's a fraction of the radiation level of a banana, I don't think I would waste their time

  • @shawnwilkening But is it harmless in gamma radioactivity?? I doubt that. A Bananna has NO GAMMA. Gamma rays are some bad shit dude.

  • @ChrisW12208 Yes, at that level it is completely harmless. That is so minuscule it's beyond negligible. Go ahead and call DoT, send them this video. See what they tell you. Prepare to be laughed at though.

  • @shawnwilkening, and since it's not a fraction of the radiation level of a banana he should call.

    Here's a comparable Geiger counter on a banana : watch?v=Pj-l7BAY1SY

    Lol! As they say, you're entitled to you own opinion, but not your own facts!

  • @GoddardsJournal Except that the two devices use totally different units of measurement, the one in this video is roetgen based and the one you linked sievert based. If memory serves a sievert is approximately 100 roetgens, so again I wouldn't panic.

  • @shawnwilkening, both devices have similar sized pancake sensors, and almost any Geiger counter can switch measure modes.

    What's simple to understand here is the 'clicks' indicating an event, ie an emission striking the sensor. In this video the counter peaks with a blizzard of clicks 0:43, many per second. But for a banana there are seconds between each 'click' watch?v=Pj-l7BAY1SY

    Every single emission can damage DNA. Your claims of safety have no accurate or factual basis.

  • St Louis Route 40, do you know what Doug Rocky is refering to here 3 mins 20 seconds newsworldwide . wordpress. com/2011/05/19/exclusive-roger-cooper-interview-with-doug-rokke-there-is-no-safe-radiation-level/

  • Good catch, thanks for posting.

  • Maybe next time show the measurement to the driver as well?

  • not good, wtf are they driving around with in there?

  • That driver will not be having babies tonight.

  • i don't even know what to say...

  • SHIT!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!! I SEE THAT ALL OVER THE PLACE...I THOUGHT THAT MEANT IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT. LOL WOW

  • That is nuts! Good catch, guys!!!!
