I don't think Tyler really had a choice with biting Caroline because even though he loves her, he can't disobey Klaus. Its not like Klaus compelled him to do it, its more like Klaus compelled Tyler to do everything that he says. I think that's what the whole sire thing is, but obviously without any compelling.
