Did you know that the guy singing this is also the alien with the eye in his forehead behind the counter in the Twilight Zone episode where the busload of people stop off at a luncheonette because the bridge is out?
Oh so did I, I thought it would be the song when I started watching it. It brings back memories and still enjoy Alan Young and Connie Hines, and true so glad they are with us. I saw Alan Young in person in 1967 he was so nice. (I am 60 years young lol).
As the singer's daughter, I can tell you that my Dad sang and wrote all of Mr. Ed's songs, but the speaking voice of Mr. Ed belonged to another actor - Jim Backus perhaps?
The speaking voice for Mr. Ed was the former movie serial cowboy, Alan "Rocky" Lane. Mr. Ed is my all-time favorite classic TV show, and this episode tops the favorites list.
I love these songs from the show! Your Dad sure made alot of kids happy, I've been singing the pretty little filly song to myself for as long as I can remember at least 40 years, Oh and the empty feed bag song! Your dad did a great job!
When I discovered your Dad had written longer versions of "Empty Feedbag Blues" and "The Pretty Little Filly," I thought it would be a great tribute to his talent, to record the longer versions, and have the vocalist on these songs, simulate your Dad's style as close as possible.
I just caught this episode this morning on Retro TV! Huddie, I knew that somebody else did Ed's singing. It was your Dad! I assume he's passed on? Alan Young and Connie Hines are still with us; isn't that wonderful? My husband and I are big fans of the show (we're in our 50s lol).
TV Land showed "Mister ED" for a few years before retiring it, and "Nickelodeon" and "Nick At-Nite" for several years in the 1980's. But I remember watching it in syndication when I was a kid, when it aired early evenings along with "Dennis The Menace," "The Adventures of Superman," "The Rifleman" and "The Twilight Zone," also sometimes a syndicated, Canadian series called "The Littlest Hobo," about the adventures of a vagabond German shepherd.
@Juliaflo Yep. They keep adding more original shows (not funny at all) and the 90s and 2000s shows. I wish I could get Antenna TV in my area. I love Betty White, but that show Hot In Cleveland is atrocious.
thats so good... i have most episodes on video from recording them but will have to look out for the dvd box set. if you have it on dvd where did you get it....hopeing i can also get it from there but i am in australia
how could anyone ever dislike this.. shame on those two

For a guy my age, I know what Mr. ed is and I like it.

Mister Ed stands in back of Wilbur- hence the origin of the term 'backing vocals'
spectrum10 2 years ago
@spectrum10 Actually, before Mr. Ed was a TV horse, he was a backing vocalist in Nashville. In the late 60s, he was a member of The Stone Ponies.

I don't really think either Mr. Lane or Mr. Ed cares how it's spelled these days.

haha, maybe not, but I was just saying it for reference purposes, just in case someone wanted to look it up...! :-p

I love those songs too, and that is why I made the music cd, "Mister Ed Unplugged," which pays tribute to the late Sheldon Allman.
