Poor Anarkali that she had to love a wimp like Salim! What can one say about Madhubala that's not already been said...she was luminous. Nalanda was a Buddhist University and not a Hindu University. It was the Hindus and Jains that first tried burning Nalanda and were not completely successful out of jealousy for this great center of learning. Later the fanatic Muslim invader came along and burned the whole university. History says the library burned for three months.

It is a fact that pre-islamic India had great mathemeticians and scientists like Aryabhatta, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara etc but muslims killed all scientific developments and Europeans took the lead.

@solidarity2205 You have got it wrong. Religion by itself is not necessarily "bad". For example Buddhism is a personal religion so is Hinduism (more or less).
On the other hand islam is not just a religion - it is a prescription for every part of human society, from military strategy, laws, interaction with non-muslims to the correct way of washing feet. It is this politico-religious fascism that needs to be countered rather than attack spirituality itself.
@realityindian I personally do not think that the 'Taoist' type of religions i.e. Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism etc are complete religions. I see them as a code or canon of ethics as there is no deity like Jesus, Allah, Yahweh Ram, Krishna etc in it worshiped there. I have no problems with code of ethics infact I was an admirer of Taoism (Tao Te Ching) myself but remember there is no deity there and it is like any other code of ethics like 'Charter of Human rights' etc etc

@realityindian Thanks for the compliment. Algebra came from the arabic Al-jabra, Chemistry was started by the Muslims. Though they were not at the source of invention i.e. they did not invent the number system and zero but they greatly advanced it further. There is enough proof that sciences and maths were greatly advanced though not pioneered by the Muslims. The pioneers of science, medicine, maths and astronomy were the Greeks, Indians and Persians(Assyrians, Babylonians).

They did destroy Takshashila, Nalanda, Vikramshila and other places of learning, but built nothing in India. Madhubala is freaking outstanding. Her beauty is just natural and simple, nothing exaggerated like most of these Indian actresses today. Back then things were more easygoing. You can't compare Madhubala to these present day actresses, not even Aishwarya Rai can compete with Madhubala. Aishwarya rai is beautiful but not the most gorgeous woman in the world. Ghonghat won the music award but this song, wonderfully sung by Lata and superbly performed by Madhubala won the people's award hands down. While the awards to Ghonghat were fleeting this song and dance immortalised Lata and Madhubala. While those awards had some financial gains the people's award had left madhu bala and Lata the evershining stars for eternity. My hats off to both Lata and Madhubala. Peace be with them.

Poor Anarkali that she had to love a wimp like Salim! What can one say about Madhubala that's not already been said...she was luminous. Saw some rare pics of her online, not a hint of make up, she was truly gorgeous. Those limpid, glowing, eyes, that sensuous mouth, those cheeks, that complexion, those arched eyebrows. You can see she hasn't done any surgical enhancements so we are looking at a natural beauty and mashallah she takes my breath away. It's like a light emanating from her face...RIP

Nalanda was a Buddhist University and not a Hindu University. It was the Hindus and Jains that first tried burning Nalanda and were not completely successful out of jealousy for this great center of learning. Later the fanatic Muslim invader came along and burned the whole university. History says the library burned for three months.

@solidarity2205 Hindus never tried to burn Nalanda. In fact Nalanda was patronized by several Hindu rulers including the Gupta kings. Later on Vikramshila univ emerged as a competitor but no Hindu king "tried to burn down Nalanda but was unsuccessful", which is an absurdity in itself.
It is a fact that pre-islamic India had great mathemeticians and scientists like Aryabhatta, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara etc but muslims killed all scientific developments and Europeans took the lead.

A Yajna a fire sacrifice performed by Hindus resulted in a fire consumed Ratnabodhi, the nine-storeyed library of Nalanda. In his Social history of India, the historian Sadasivan states, "the enormous manuscript library of the University was set of fire by Trithikas (all Brahmin sects) with the support of Jainas due to mounting jealousy they nurtured against great center of learning.

It is a HISTORICAL FACT that the marauder Khilji completely burnt down Nalanda, Vikramshila and many other monasteries.
The muslims of that region even today sing praises of bastard Khilji and have named a town and railway station after him.

They named a station after Bakhtiyar Khilji and have composed poems praising the destroyer of Nalanda and Vikramshila - possibly the biggest criminal in the history of India. Aurangzeb is a hero for them, jaziya is defended, temple destruction justified.
Compared to muslims, the Hindus, Buddhists, even christians of today are way more civilized.

On the other hand islam is not just a religion - it is a prescription for every part of human society, from military strategy, laws, interaction with non-muslims to the correct way of washing feet. It is this politico-religious fascism that needs to be countered rather than attack spirituality itself.

@realityindian I personally do not think that the 'Taoist' type of religions i.e. Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism etc are complete religions. I see them as a code or canon of ethics as there is no deity like Jesus, Allah, Yahweh Ram, Krishna etc in it worshiped there. I have no problems with code of ethics infact I was an admirer of Taoism (Tao Te Ching) myself but remember there is no deity there and it is like any other code of ethics like 'Charter of Human rights' etc etc

@realityindian You are right in saying that Religion as a concept does not seem that bad. But when organized religion comes in (Catholicism, Islam, Hinduism etc) the bad things start coming out. You need people to manage a religion i.e. the clergymen, priests,pandits etc etc When a religion becomes organized it enters every aspect of life i.e. marriage, business, apostacy etc etc Priests are just mangers of men, religious estates and affairs in fancy dress.

@realityindian Your second para also has a bad argument Islam was too a great patron of arts and literature and architecture (does the Taj Mahal make you proud?) but all this was at cost of the pre existing culture and lives and body of knowledge. All Hindus cannot be clubbed into one. They had rivalries too among themselves and fought like cats and dogs. Why people say good or bad hindu/good or muslim. The fact is we either good or bad human beings. Religion has nothing to do with being good.

@solidarity2205 Ignorant fool, did I mention arts and literature? I talked of mathematics, science, astronomy and engineering. Who is the Indian contemporary of Newton, of Leibniz, of Euler, of Bernoulli?
Why is it that before the accursed muslims came, India had produced greats like Aryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya, Brahmagupta etc, and none thereafter?
With all its so-called rivalries, the pre-islamic Hindu society was far ahead of Europeans in math and science.

@realityindian Thanks for the compliment. Algebra came from the arabic Al-jabra, Chemistry was started by the Muslims. Though they were not at the source of invention i.e. they did not invent the number system and zero but they greatly advanced it further. There is enough proof that sciences and maths were greatly advanced though not pioneered by the Muslims. The pioneers of science, medicine, maths and astronomy were the Greeks, Indians and Persians(Assyrians, Babylonians).

@solidarity2205 Al-khwarizmi was in Baghdad. My question is what did muslims do to enhance math and science in INDIA? They did destroy Takshashila, Nalanda, Vikramshila and other places of learning, but built nothing in India. No muslim scientist was active in India when they ruled (around the time of Newton, Kepler etc in Europe). Contrasted with the number of Hindu scientists/mathematicians (Aryabhatta, Bhaskara etc) in pre-islamic era proves that muslims DESTROYED SCIENCE IN INDIA!

Madhubala is freaking outstanding. Her beauty is just natural and simple, nothing exaggerated like most of these Indian actresses today. Back then things were more easygoing. You can't compare Madhubala to these present day actresses, not even Aishwarya Rai can compete with Madhubala. Aishwarya rai is beautiful but not the most gorgeous woman in the world. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some people can really take it overboard. Madhubala takes the crown, HANDS DOWN!

It is the best dancing song in the history of bollywood, Mughal-e Azam was the most costly film of many decades. It is the only movie thats sets are still there un touched. Many records were broken by this movie. I remember on its first TV premier, The record sale of televisions was seen in both Pakistan and India.
