The refs should be suspended when they don't make calls on crap like this! Time and again this happens and the refs just watch it... then the league has to suspend AFTER the fact. He should've been given a 5 min major for boarding and a game misconduct, followed by a 5-15 game suspension.

Lapierre knows that it takes just a little push from behind to send a guy flying when a player is going full blast towards the boards. It's why Don Cherry and others want to bring in "no touch" icing rule so players don't get injured racing for the puck in their own end. Gutless and a garbage play for sure!

If Nichols would have not attempted to do some figure skating, nothing would have happened. If he wanted to injure him, he would have given way more power to his hit!

@JerOutlaw Well Lapierre didn't had much time to think, it was a relfex. Though he still went with a weak hit in terms of strenght. As of the league, it is too much inconstant with suspensions so that I can advance a theory about that (ex: Cooke did way worst and had no suspension. Also, I don,t see why you have to be that mean; I never said you were this or that. I just posted a comments three weeks ago and you came insulting me. If you can't control yourself like that, then don't watch hockey!

Oh come on. Hits liek Lapierre attemped happens a thousand times in a year. Nichols was just not in control of his skates, as you can clearly see he only had one skate on the ice and he was trying to hit the puck in the air. A lot of superstars attempted plays like that and ran with nothing. But TSN seems to love to bash out Lapierre. They believe that he is supposed to be like Georges Laraque or something as he is a hard-working player that gives everything he got, even if he ha a bad season.

Lapierre had barely any speed any is not a very strong guy, Plus look at how Nichol immediately put his head down after he was touched. @856744 Even good announcers get carried away with emotion occasionally and say dumb things - note that he admits he is losing his temper. He speculates on so many things here and blows it out of proportion. True, it was not such a good move by Lapierre, but it is not typical of his play and there are many that are worse that go unpenalized. Sorry, Ferraro is not thinking clearly here in my opinion. Most of the people that comment do not see Lapierre play every game - including Ferraro.

@DerangedRanger1 The announcer is Ray Ferraro and an 18 year vet of the NHL who suffered an injury from a similar gutless play. Lapierre knows that it takes just a little push from behind to send a guy flying when a player is going full blast towards the boards. It's why Don Cherry and others want to bring in "no touch" icing rule so players don't get injured racing for the puck in their own end. Gutless and a garbage play for sure!

@paukva This kind of stuff happens ALL the time in the NHL and I agree with the "No Touch" icing rule. The problem is not Lapierre alone - this is one play in his career and he was suspended for it. I know Lapierre has taken his share of cheap shots too. Before you even think about whining about this, I want you to support the banning of Todd Bertuzzi from the NHL for the Steve Moore incident.

Obviously, what Bertuzzi did was worse than Max and he paid for that crime in my opinion. However, I don't hate Bertuzzi as much as Max for some reason. Like I said before, some players just bug me more than others. For me Max is one of those players probably because he makes retarded faces and never backs up his antics with his fists. Simple as that.

@paukva I agree that he would probably be more effective as an instigator if he did fight at least once in a while. Nevertheless, he is still quite effective - although I think the best are Ruutu and Avery right now. Lapierre is not the best instigator, but he does pretty well on a checking line and penalty kill team. I think he contributes to the team in his own way. Apparently the Habs organization does too or he would be gone. Think whatever you like, he will be back next season. Sorry.
