I think this song was recorded with Ed's Ibanez Destoryer which was originally white at this time and plugged into a Marshall amp (The only amplifier Eddie would use for many years!). I don't think Van Halen wrote this song. I believe it's a cover. A 70's cover by the sounds of it!
This is Genesis. Eddie before any of his tricks it shows the rhythmical funky genious of his lead playing before any of the current players were doing it. In my mind Ed just pioneered funky lead guitar that Nuno Bettencourt and the current crop of rhytmical players have taken to a higher level. I think he was actually a better player in 75 at the age of 19 or 20 than he is now.
Even tho the sound on this is terrible, this song had potential.I wonder why they didnt work this one up?? Some cool guitar riffs in this as well.Nice to hear Eddie play like this.
@mrbrianmccarthy It is not a strat it was before Ed dumped a PAF in a Charvel Strat. And it aint a Les Paul. Maybe an Ibanez Destroyer through his Marshall Superlead. We cant really judge the tone as it is a very early demo but Ed still plays brilliantly even with a crappy sound we can hear the genious even then
To NYCvoice. Well he didnt know it was puttin them over the top while he was singing. Although his vocal harmony was a difinitive feature of VH...that doesnt really mean he liked it.....it reluctantly got him in the band.
you know something i am so sick of hearing, comparing wolfgang and mike, first of all, mikes background vocals doesn't make the van halen sound, its dave and eddie, and of course alex, they are the core of van halen, if you listen to them individually, you know its them, now, for the van halen bass playing, well, pretty much any half ass bass player can do that, so what i am saying is, wolfgang is a super replacement for mikey,
jhop: exactly, i think people forget that (like the Beatles and countless others) these were 20 year olds, who, for all their partying, honed their craft, worked countless hours and paid the kind of dues most of us would not in our respective field.
They just played the shit out of that song and there was nobody there. You hear like two people go "woo!" at the end and that's it. They weren't kidding when they said they played every backyard party they could find for years. I'd bet that there were like three more people than usual hangin' out down at Steve's that day, so they played their gig. These particular 20 year olds were NOT lazy about their craft! I think we can all learn from them, especially those of us who're less motivated!
I wouldn't recognize these cats as "Van Halen" if I went in some bar heard these 1975 blues hard rock on the Juke. They are to me, 1970's nostalgia rediscovered.
The main reason Michael Anthony got into Van Halen was because of the fact that he could sing harmony....and well. Anthony infact disliked that part of the performance.
I doubt it. You may be able to find the original version on sheet music performed by the EWB. I would suggest slowing it down and learning it by ear. It's not that hard. Good Luck!
i amassed a cd collection of over 40 boots ranging from 1973-1984. I searched for collectors using the net. I used my Hendrix collection to trade with. 1:1 via the mail. It was a lot of fun and there is still some stuff out there that I wouldn't mind having...have fun!
It is a cover! Edgar Winter's "We All Had A Real Good Time"! I thought it sounded 70's! LOL

His tone is different. (Not as good). Sounds to me like he was still using a Les Paul.

Touring with :wolfy: was another van halen fuck up in a string of many! Once again eddie being a selfish prick and ignoring fans.

Why would Mike dislike his forte? That was what put VH over the top as far as this listener is concerned. NOBODY sounds like him.

Anthony is the only backup singer I have ever heard who can simply NAIL the pitch of backup vocals. BRING HIM BACK!!!!!
