  • @DavidtheGlizzard

Some one of an authorative stature has to make such a statement as the rav made; the pressure and the hype is extraordinary and it is not something most people ought to do. Rav Nachman himself was changed forever by his trip to Israel, so if one already lives in Israel, there is really no need to visit Uman. This was a minhag for Hasidei Breslov a long time ago, and does not fit to Israeli Jews. I oppose going to Uman for Rosh Hashana while leaving the wife and kids home.

  • well, the people of uman love it

it is an impovershed place and the pilgrimage does wonders for their economy

  • @brabon1

Let them visit when it is not a major Jewish holiday for two days. There are many options of solving this sudden "need." I believe it is better to spend one's time studying the teachings of R. Nachman than in traveling all over the globe, especially if one lives in Eretz ha-Kodesh.

    Kol Tov

Si tu as pitié de ton âme...Vas à Ouman !!! ;)

  • @yitshak7 montre le moi, je veux le voir avec mes propres yeux

  • @yitshak7 où est la preuve de ce que tu avances ?

  • He makes a good point. I'm new to all this but already I've seen a bunch of "Rosh Hashana Uman Widows", struggling with their husbands' absence during their male bonding rave-up exercise, as they provide holiday meals, etc., for their kids.

  • Yes he's right! All these freaks go to UMAN and leave there wives alone!

  • It is better to study the teaching of Rebbe Nachman than to travel outside of Israel for Rosh Hashana, especially if one came from a Sefardic family. He is right. I will not travel there, since I have made aliyah to Eretz Israel, and Rebbe Nachman himself was very affected by his visit to the Land of Israel. To live here and to do mitzvot that is the end of all Breslov teaching, really.

  • @72Yonatan Rabbeinu loved the land of Israel, and Teachings of Rabbeinu will be acctual untill the time of Moshiyah- you do not know how to do mitzvot if you critisize the greatest Tzaddik of our nation. First of all try to learn something from teachings of Rabbeinu Nachman and after try to express your opinion about. Israel is not Geulah, and never be untill all Jews will understand that our serious weapon is Emunah to guns and Merkavot.... I love Israel but before everything i love Hashem

  • @72Yonatan I don't understand why everyone can't just let everyone else do what they have to.

The Hacham has his (very legitimate) opinion and we must respect it, at the same time there are other Hachamim whose opinion must also be respected.

I think at the end there is room for everyone to do what their conscience tells them to do.

  • @tikletik

Yeah right! Everyone knows how much intense pressure is applied to hundreds of thousands of people to go on this trip, even though it is not a requirement or a necessity of our faith. It is hyped and sold far too much, and this has been going on for years. Now when one sage finally says something to stop the stampede of pressure, which is mostly felt by those returning to Jewish praxis, you have to complain that we should just let everybody do what he wants. So why all the fuss?

  • can i get a transation?

  • to Betzaleldaniel:

it is a mitzvah to go see your rebbe on the holidays, but not when you cannot see him because he is buried!!!!!!

  • The Breslevers that I know, their wives get upset when their husbands dont go to Uman.

  • one of the greatest living Tzadikim

  • he can go see rabbis on other holidays hes right........go on channukah

  • The Maran is right. Yes, you heard it. Nachon.

  • Oh! It wasn't clear, but I heard it again, it's quite funny! People thought that he, Rav Ovadia, was recomending Uman, because he once sat in silence, and didn't comment. so it was broadcasted by satelite that he did t'shuva and is now a Breslover!!!

And think I got the story right now!

  • He doesn't quite get it, does he!

Anyway, he probably had to give his opinion for those who ask him.

  • There is one Torah for the Jews. One went to everyone. If it should then not for everyone.

  • Maybe the Gaon forgot the gemorah that one MUST travel to ones Rabbi on Reggel (festivals)?

  • i am just raising a point. Regarding Rosh Hashana it is my understanding that it is not an obligation as on Regel but a mitzvah. If ones wife consent that is also a mitzvah if he cant come back the same day. Besides that the main mitzvah to make his wife happy is to buy her clothing and to give swets to the kids. If he is not married it is surely a mitzvah. If you say in this case Rabeinu was niftar we can shift it to the simple fact that her permission validates going for this great tikun

  • It's very nice that you remind him Gmara. Rabbi memory is known as a very "weak":)))

Write to leave for "the rabbi's face and his" no respect "in his rabbi's grave. Also, it was bound for the leaving the country to foreign country.

  • @betzaleldaniel Maybe dont be such a Am Haeretz and learn the sugya with miforshim etc.

  • @gonzeboy I was just saying it from the straight halacha and from a logical point of view that a wifes permission simple change any possible argument, where there is no need to search for pilpulim, so why dont you bring your point clear instead of calling people stupid like a child would do?

  • Whatup, G? Well, fine. If anyone wishes to go to Uman, let them. Maybe I will one day, but for Rosh Hashannah...I prefer to be with the familia. Shalom al Yisrael, haver.

  • Umm... BRING REBBE NACHMAN's KEVER TO ERETZ YISRAEL!!!!!

  • Believe it or not, from what I heard, the Russian gov't offered to send R' Nahman's kever to the Holy Land and I don't know who said no. Later, when someone changed their minds and decided to agree to the Russians' offer, the answer was no due to the thriving tourist industry. Grab the chance while you can.

  • chaval, that.

  • Rabbi Yosef is a brilliant posek and all that, but he is not a chassid nor any close to an authority on chassidus, so his opinion must be taken for what it is -- the opinion of a misnaged.

He's obviously talking to his own people who follow his psakim and stuff. There is no reason why ignorant people should want to say his psakim need to be followed by everyone.

  • Precisely. He has no problem with Breslover Hassidim going to Uman, but he is talking to his community. Breslov Chassidus has attracted many Sephardim, and Rav Ovadia is simply stating that unless one is truly a Breslov Hassid, they should instead be celebrating Rosh Hashana with their family in Eretz Yisrael.

  • "If someone comes to my grave, gives a coin to charity, and says these ten Psalms [the Tikkun HaKlali], I will pull him out from the depths of Gehinnom!" (Rabbi Nachman's Wisdom #141). "It makes no difference what he did until that day, but from that day on, he must take upon himself not to return to his foolish ways".[19 I don't care what Rav Ovadia is affraid of, i believe in words of Great Tzaddik Rabbeinu Nachman.

  • @berserkare what about the words of Great Tzaddik Ovadia Yosef?

  • @RNRYALUMNI Sorry but i cannot compare Rabbeinu with Rabbi Ovadia, i d'like to be protected from Gehenom and Rabbeinu promiss me that. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Shlita , suppose to understand why we are going to Uman in those days, it is so important for us to be with our Rabbeinu in this special time of the year. I Rabbi Ovadia is affraid of loosing folowers he dont need to because all Breslovers Hasidim have a great respect to him. We can always say Veha'ikar - veha'ikar

    lo lefached klal. Kol Tov

  • Surely teshuva is enough to avoid Gehenom?

  • RAV OVADIA YOSEF U ARE AMAZING

  • What does the good Rabbi say @ 1:22 that made the audience laugh?

  • He said that some people thought he was ok with them going to Uman because he refrained from saying anything. He said "they thought I 'repented', and said 'let them go'! G-d forbid!".

  • Ah, okay. Toda raba! I understand some Hebrew.

  • he is trying to tear apat our country, and I can barely understand wut he's saying. Sadly my parents worship him (practically)

.................hy is everone speaking english? Im Temani btw

  • He is not tearing apart anything. You are an embarassment to Temanim, who are for the most part good JEws who would not insult a respected Sephardic Rabbi.

  • Torahanytime (.) com , visit it, share it, but most of all learn great things from it.

  • definitely, I'm a friend of Shimon's and also a representative =]

  • this rabbi is bigger than anyone of you pepole even know"n your whole lifetime so befor you open your IGNORANT mouths chek your facts.

  • When the Rabbi (Nahman) came back from his travel in Erez Isroel, he said to his 'hassidim "I came back with a gift for you : Makhlokes (controversy)

  • There are great disputes both past and present on the customs of certain chasidim. The Maran is only trying to call attention to what is clearly evident in the Gemara. When our customs become contradictory to Torah, we MUST correct them. It is the responsibility of a Hakham such as the Maran to make these observations from time to time and so to provoke thought from the kahillah worldwide. Please remember, my brothers and sisters that the golden calf was the result of a misunderstanding.

  • this rabbi is bigger than anyone of you pepole even know"n your whole lifetime so befor you open your INGORANT mouths cheak your facts.

  • first off everyone has the right to give thier oppinion on all matters thets the way the world works each pearson has thier right to choose who they would like to listen to hopefully they choose the right oppinion however i dissagree with his oppinion if the wife can handle the family and the husband will connect with hashem and pray for his family better than staying home and baby sitting and trying to daven sometimes going away is the right thing for your family

  • All the woman that I know not only give their husbands full permission AND their bracha to go to Uman but are happy and proud that their husbands went- This is a matter between a husband and a wife and is not an issue to be pascand by a rav.

  • @yaelleah18 Thank You for your Pasak!

  • did you read the description box, or are you so fluent in hebrew you didn't need it

he wasn't saying that the breslov chasidim shouldn't do it, the chacham said that they should go and do it ,their rebi instructed it that way

but other people who don't have the minhag of the breslover to go to uman should be with their families.

and please have some respect for the chacham, please

  • Rebbe Nachman is superior to Ovadia Yosef.

The gedolim from earlier generations are on a higher level than later ones, as I am sure you know.

Nachman said that any Jew can come to his Kever. Any Jew includes those who arent his Chassidim. I am sorry, but he overrules Ovadia Yosef.

  • maybe Rebbe nachman is greater, but not every jew on earth at the time held by him. so that means that there were other opinions that might have agreed with the chacham. like if an amora argues on a tanna, as long as there is another tanna that agrees with him it's fine. the chacham is saying that if you don't hold by rebbe nachman , as the breslovers do, than it's better for you to be with your family on rosh hashana.

  • I would bet that if Rebbe Nachman would know today's situation he wouldn't have wanted for Jews (both his followers and regular Jews) leaving eretz Yisrael and going to Uman. Remember Rebbe Nachman himself said- "wherever I am going I am on my way to Eretz Yisrael"

  • First, where did Rebbe Nachman say that? And if he did, saying that any Jew CAN come to his Kever is by no means an obligation, as the Breslovers make it. Did he say every Jew CAN come, or every Jew SHOULD come, as they are two very different things.

I don't think he ever said either.

  • @Johnthegr82202 absolutely correct ... he even said it in the first sentence that he wasnt talking about REAL Breslover chassidim!!! =)

  • @Johnthegr82202 Youre right he was talking to his cong.

  • @5enecan Have some respect.

  • i like that idea :) its nice its actually people want to party out side and have fun thats why u dont see stonge famliy ties :(

  • Having met the sage I'd have to agree - spend the High Holidays with your families. One can head to the graves of the great anytime. I do revere the great Rav Nahman, but Rosh Hashannah is family time.

  • az hu mefursam shel sheker. o ulai im lo, im hu nasa lauman, batuach she hu yodea hamaalot maalah min hamaalah.

then he's a famous rabbi of falseness. or alternatively, he's ignorant, and was never there, cause if he was there, he would surely know why.

Rambam amar sheInyan Kedushat Eretz Yisrael talui al avodah shel am yisrael can. aval zeh lo mehaikar shel hamakom.

Rambam said that the thing with holiness of the land of israel is from the tzaddikim. there in Uman is the greatest tzadik.

  • I am sorry my brother but you are mistaken. The Patriarchs were the greatist of the Tzadikim. all the others are just a reflection of that pristene glory. Please study Torah with greater care, you may revere your tzadik but please do not become deceived. Remember the other one, who deceived himself in the Pardes! G-d forbid that anyone else will suffer such a fate.
