  • so i wanna take out a few link outta my chain cause my friend made it pretty long.... is there any point on the chain where i should push the pin out and if i make my chain too short can i put a few link back in please reply

  • Please refer to the video and comments/answers below.

  • Finally got the crank off my Raleigh ATB...when it gets hard to turn, use leverage to turn one more time, then it comes right off...(using crank puller)

  • where is the best place to get one

  • @hyperboyXX Try your LBS. Google Park Tool

  • where can i get that thing?

  • excellent video. thank you :)

  • @scorchedearthdj You're welcome. Cheers.

  • what kind of tool for the first type

  • @casas117 The answers to your questions are in the video and these comments. The tool I use is made by Park Tool.

  • do u need a new chain link

  • Thank you, this helped

  • thanks mate!

  • My pleasure!

  • Damn u have some dirty ass hands

  • Can't be afraid of a little grease if you want to keep your bike running smoothly.

  • I don't have that tool damn is there any other way?

  • @bgtzzrxy See answer to same Q on other comments.

  • excellent video!

  • @VoxPandemonium Cheers!

  • Well, removing rivets from a chain is easy as long as the chain is in half-decent condition. Problem is this chain is coated in grime and dirt and has been neglected for years. I can't get a rivet to extract, even using a rivet extractor. I'm close to just bolt cutting it off and buying a new chain, but would really rather not do that. Any suggestions anybody?

  • it takes a really long time for me to put the rivit back after i take it off the chain

  • @MrAsian890 Are you pushing the rivet out of the plate? The idea is not to remove the rivet entirely. See other comments and the video.

  • @TheVeloWeb oh well that failed i guess i have to buy a new chain

  • i dont have a chain tool but is there any other way to pop the pin out without damaging the chain? and how much would the chain tool cost?

  • @zeke323ify The short answer is no (see response to @luis9571) The price of the tool will vary on make and model but are not expensive. Call your LBS.

  • how do i know where is the end opening of the chain

  • @BillieJean900 If you have a derailleur-equipped bike, the chain is "endless." Hence the directions in this video. You need a chain tool or check to see if it has a quick-link. Again, all covered in the video.

  • very good video with easy explanation. thank you!

  • hey i accidently removed the pin all the way, is there anyway i can get it back in place, PLEASE RESPOND!!!

  • It's a very fiddly job, but can be done. Try holding the pin with needle-nose pliers (extra set of hands needed) while pushing pin with chain tool.

However, if new, have you sized the chain yet? See my chain measurement video. Are you using a quick link? If not, the addition of a quick link might suffice. Otherwise, if you've kept the spare links after sizing, splice a link in.

  • can a sram link be used on any chain as long as the speeds the same? ive got a cheap kmc chain on my bike and it was hard to put the link in(had to use a screw driver to make it click in properly) then after some use, i took the chain of to clean it when i put it back on, it went on realy easy this time. Then i rode the like less than 10 meters and chain got stuck on the gear are something and the link shot a part only found 1 half of it. i tried putting a new link but gave up it wasnt going in

  • Make sure you use the appropriately sized link for # of gears. e.g 8sp/9sp.

  • whats the easyest way to take it off with out the tool??

  • As removing a screw ideally requires a screwdriver, a chain tool is the best way to remove a derailleur chain. There isn't a "easyest" way" without the tool.

  • I have searched a lot of these type of videos and this one is by far the best. Thank you!

  • where do you get that tool

  • Try your LBS or online for Park chain tools

  • Thank You!

  • this helps so much. i kept spinning my chain around looking for the wipperman.

  • @GeistMythos Glad to see people finding this useful. The complete page and text can be found at the VeloGarage @ VeloWeb.ca

  • Good video mate thanks.

  • This was very helpful. Thank you very much for this video.

  • That it helped is worth the time I invested.

  • Extremely helpful.

My "back-up" bike needs a new chain, however I don't have the tool...yet.

Every where I've looked at how to do this, they made it seem so difficult, you make it seem easy to do!
