  • mine just shows me the top right corner of the video. how can i fix this?

  • @OnlineNapalm If you are referring to the preview window, right click in the center of the preview window, and put a check in 'scale video to fit preview window'.

  • Can anyone help me? I moved my FX tab out of the screen area and i dont know where it is!

  • @Burrylicious If you closed the FX window, you can bring it back with Alt +8.

If you dragged the FX window completely off the Windows desktop, you may need to use windows control panel to resize your desktop to drag the fx window back onto Sony Vegas.

Be sure to view my YouTube video, 'Finding lost windows in Sony Vegas & Movie Studio' and Fix screen layout problems in Sony Vegas & Movie Studio

  • OMGG! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCHH! YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW THANKFUL I AM THAT U PUT THIS VIDEO UP! i looked at everyone else's tutorial thingys and it just didnt work for me but i held those buttons as the software was starting up, and it worked perfectly for me afterwards. good as new(:

  • @guerillabill okay thanks

  • TTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAANNNNNNNNNKKKKKKK YOU!

  • THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! YOU ARE AWESOME!

  • Yea I lost a tab and thank God for this vid!!!!

  • THNK U SO MUCH

  • Oh my God, thank you so much! This helped me ALOT!

  • Thanks for posting.

I accidentaly dragged my "Event pan/crop" window to the upper side of the monitor and then the window grabbed right where usually panels such as Preview, Explorer, etc remain.

I can't find a way to drag the panel back into a separated window again.

I saw this way you described (reseting all Vegas to default values).

May I ask you: do you know any other way to restore specifically one panel/window that was grabbed into the bar?

    Thanks so much.

  • @OdairFernandes You can move windows around in Sony Vegas by putting your mouse over the row of vertical dots in the upper left side of the window, and then dragging the window. You can drag it back to the tabbed area and it will stick there.

  • @guerillabill Worked perfecty. I tried before, but only clicking on the dots, but cliking, holding and dragging worked as desired. Thank you very much.

  • Thanss a lot buddy....

  • Thank you so much! I'm saved!

  • thank you :)

    you are a life saver :D :D :D

  • thank you soooooooooooooo much :D

  • Im Very very upset. I was working on a video that had about 2 months work in it. Yes I got my screen back and I thank you for that but you did not say you would lose all of the project that I was woking on.If you have an existing project going on, DO NOT do this until you have rendered your final work. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR PROJECT!!!

  • @Davedeanlawrence Resetting the screen does not affect any of your projects. The project will be in the same place you saved it. The project is NOT lost. It is still on your computer exactly where you last saved it.

  • I just want to say, THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY MUCH!

  • thanks mate it helped a lot :)

  • thank you...the ctrl shift solved my problem...

  • MAN i killed myself just to find a video to explain how to do this without "advanced" techniques. And was nearly convincing myself to actually buy adobe after effects. so I'm subscribing right now. Dude you saved my life ;)

  • Thank you so much ! I couldn't find any videos but you finally showed me! Thanks so much!!!!!!!

  • You are a lifesaver dude!!! i started panicing when I messed it up 20 minute after installing the full version I bought ..>.< Thanks a million! :D

  • Thanks

  • THANK YOU

  • THANK YOU!

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • I have vegas movie studio HD 9.0 and I was pan/cropping and I dragged the pop up window down and it disappeared and know I dont know how to get it back? Cause when I click the pan/crop button on a vid or pic it doesnt show up you just can see it very faded at the very bottom of my computer screen how can I fix this?

  • @9ophelia If you pulled the pan and crop window completely off the windows desktop, you won't be able to see it. To resolve, you'll have to change the windows screen settings to a larger screen size, then drag the pan & crop window back onto Vegas window. Then reset the windows screen size back to your normal settings.

  • @guerillabill i have sony vegas 10 and i have done the same as 9ophelia how do i get the video preview back?

  • @markmb11 In Movie Studio 10, click 'View', "windows layouts', 'default layout'. This will restore the default screen layout.

  • @guerillabill thanks man worked like a charm

  • thanks you very muck very very very mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • hey my layout is all screwed up and i want to fix it but i dont know the proper names of things so i want to reset it, but i have presets for things will all those disappear?

  • @TyLerSTMonkey If using Movie Studio 10, choose 'view', 'windows layouts', 'default layouts' to restore the layout. This will not remove any presets you have created.

If using an earlier version, you may need to close movie studio, and hold down the ctrl key, while restarting movie studio to get back to default layout.

  • thank you so much man

  • OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH! i thought i needeed to reinstall it! thanks

  • Hey i need help, i got sony vegas 10.0 and when i press event pan crop tool it doesnt show up. well it does and it doesnt i like see a transparent thing of it right at the bottem of my screen but it isnt in sony vegas. if you get what i meen? lets just say it isnt there. and i really need help. please can you help me?

  • @08tellie Sounds like you have docked the window outside of Sony Vegas. To go back to the default layout, do this> View, 'windows layouts', default layout.

  • @guerillabill I was working with media generators and accidentally slid the window across the screen and it became part of Vegas. How do I pop it back out so it's not part of Vegas?

  • @Chan3lprincess16 Most windows can be docked just by pulling them into the tabbed area.

  • @guerillabill thanks it worked but i have another problem :S

I was making a video and putting text in my video I mispelled a word so on the text slide on the timeline i pressed the 'generated media'' to edit my text and it wont open.

  • @Chan3lprincess16 Sounds like you docked the text box behind a tab. See my video 'Find lost windows in Sony Vegas' for solution

  • Will The control shift thing work if io have sony vegas 10.0 trial version?

  • @Ablindska8ter13 If you have Vegas 10, click on 'view', 'windows layouts', and choose the 'default layout'.

This will return the screen back to the default layout.

For more about Movie Studio 10, see my youtube video 'Getting Started with Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 '

  • tks a lot ;)

  • Thankyou very much! I accidently docked the pan and crop window and couldnt use it properly. Now its back to normal! Thanks!

  • @guerillabill how do you undock a tool? i accidentally docked the video fx on the bottom and everytime i exit out of the video fx when i reopen it, it goes back into the same spot and i can only see half of what i need too..

  • @bassfisherr4life To undock a tool, put your mouse on the vertical row of dots on the docked window, and drag the window out of the tabbed area.

Then resize the window. When you close the fx windows, always use the x in the upper right corner.

  • Well what if I made into a separate window (you know what i mean, right?) and dragged it down into the very bottom of sony vegas, then it disappeared. I tried to click on Video FX on view, but it didn't appear. Please reply and help!!!

  • @Hannbea If you drag a window completely off the screen, it will be below the viewable area of the windows desktop. To recover this in Movie Studio 10, use 'view', then 'windows layouts', then 'default layout'.

If using an earlier version, you may need to close movie studio, and hold down the ctrl key, while restarting movie studio to get back to default layout.

  • @guerillabill thank you! I'll try it out later. :)

  • Thanks man, really helped a lot.

  • it doesnt appear in tab. just appears as free window

  • @b0y4nr0x You can dock any free window to the tabbed area by dragging the window into the tabbed area

  • Thanks

  • thanks so much!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks i got it!

realy a helping hand for a beginner =)

  • thanks so much dude, i was wondering this same exact question and had the same exact problem but didnt know what to type in on youtube. thanks so much!

  • Thank You

  • i want about the crop i cant see it

  • how do i undock the tabs?

  • @Blu32TV In the far left corner of each selected tab there is row of vertical dots. Left click and drag these dots to undock or redock a tab.

  • @guerillabill thanks!

  • @guerillabill help! i moved the event pan/crop and now i cant find it what do i do?? i have sony vegas pro 9

  • @firestormrox See my YouTUbe video, 'Finding Lost Windows in Sony Vegas'

  • @tamang4 Make sure you haven't docked the effects window behind another window in the tabbed area. Move those windows around just to make sure it is not there. If you moved the effects window off the Windows desktop, you'll have to change the screen resolution in Windows to a larger area. Then drag the window back onto Sony Vegas. Then change the Windows desktop back to previous size

  • @guerillabill thankyou soo much!!!! Subbed :)

  • thank you thank you thank you!

  • thanks so much for the second thing with ctrl shift :D

  • omg thank u so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you this helped alot

  • I'm having problems with the Video Preview... I accidentally clicked on the "x" thingy and then put it back on but this time it appears along with the tabs, so I can't see, for example, the video preview and the video fx at the same time. Could you please help me?

  • @SparklingCupcakez You can drag the video preview window from the tabbed area to another area on the timeline. Just put your mouse pointer on the vertical row of dots in the top left corner of the preview window, and drag to whereever you want the window to be.

  • @guerillabill

OMG! THANK YOU SO MUCH! IT WORKED! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Are you some kind of professional? After watching several of your videos, I can say that you've got an answer for almost every question! THAT'S GREAT! :DD

  • How do I do that?

  • @BigRubberProductions See my YouTube video 'Setting Project Properties in Sony Vegas & Movie Studio '

  • Thanks this helped, but I am having troubles with one video fx in particaular.

For the colour gradient I use elliptical black to transparent, but whenever I upload it to youtube, it only ever covers a part of my wdiescreen clips. How do I fix this?

  • @BigRubberProductions Set project properties to match the final output render aspect ratio. That way the effects know what size they need to be on the screen.

  • Dude thank you so much this worked perfectly for me

  • thank you for this! for some reason my video preview swallowed my time line and I couldn't find it, but it got fixed with your solution so thanks!

  • how do you get your fx and screen on bottom and timeline at top

  • @NOLimiTSKYLINE1 See my YouTube video, 'Change Timeline placement in Sony Vegas '

  • in that little tab box in the bottom left, when i had video preview there i click the the little 'X' and it deleted my video preview. how do i restore it? yes i can still click video preview under 'VIEW' but it comes up in a seperate window. PLZ help!

  • @SkizzyFilms Open the video preview window, then drag it down and over the tab window. This will dock it in the tab window

  • i cant get my menu to come up for editing generated media. i did the control shift thing but it didn't fix that..... PLEASE HELP!!!! I can't insert text without it....

  • @v2hsigner See my YouTube video, 'finding lost windows in Sony Movie Studio'

  • @guerillabill thanks but I already did that, and it didn't work. I moved everything around and nothing...... clicked it and nothing... anything else I can do?

  • @v2hsigner If you moved the window off the Windows desktop, you'll have to change the screen resolution in Windows to a larger area. Then drag the window back onto Sony Vegas. Then change the Windows desktop back to previous size

  • hey man i have a problem with sony vegas pro 9, when i import a video, a error pop ups and says

"Error Can Not Create Proxy" or something like that, can you help me?

  • @thealandj02 Make sure you are using the latest version of Vegas Pro - 9.0e.

  • @guerillabill yes, i have that version, but i re-installed that vegas like 4 times and the problem stays

  • @thealandj02 Does the error appear on all video files, on just one? It is possible that no codec exists on your computer for the video or audio in the file you are trying to edit.

  • @guerillabill in almost all

  • @thealandj02 If it doesn't appear in all videos, the problem is most likely related to the codec used by the device that created the video.

  • i want my video preview on the bottom and timeline on the top how ?

my problem is i pulled out Video effect tab and media genarator from the tab section and cant put it back in the tab section i aready went to view and did what you did and it still didnt go back to the tab section please!!!!!! help!!!

  • @TheEighthKind Just drag the windows over the tabbed window and they will dock to the tabbed area, and show up in the tabs

  • @guerillabill I tried dragging the Video FX window which had become seperated, too, to the tabbed area but all it did was place the window next to the tabbed area. Video FX did not show up in the tabs. Could somebody please help?

  • @MiscVideos78rpm Put your mouse on the vertical row of dots in the video fx window and drag it to vertical row of dots in the tabbed window, and let go.

That will add video fx to the tabs.

  • @guerillabill There are no dots on the Video FX window.

  • @MiscVideos78rpm Just drag the video fx window onto the dots in the tabbed window.

  • the only problem with the second one is that it erased all my projects D:

  • @bubbyis1337 It didn't erase any projects, but by resetting to default settings, no recent projects will show up in the project list. The projects are still on your computer.

  • @guerillabill I relize that now it was weird when i first opened it upn it wouldnt let me import any media or oen any projects (this is after i restored settings) but next time i exited out and opened it up again it worked :D

  • Thanks for the Ctfl Shft suggestion that helped me. I have Win7 and had to hold them down just an instant after you click the icon for it to work, program wouldn't start if I held them down as I clicked the icon.

  • Thank you!

  • thanks dude

  • Thank youuu!:)

  • thanks

  • THX MAN :)!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whenever i add a video file my vegas just lags out and idk why i tried reinstalling but it dident work still having the problem, if anyone can help that would be nice :)

  • @pimpinscuba86 Video files will lag in the preview window if your computer is low on RAM or CPU processing power. The lag disappears when you render the file

  • @guerillabill im on 4gv ram and a quad core

  • @pimpinscuba86 I using an 8 core processor with 12 gig of Ram in Windows 7 64 bit with a 1024meg video card, and don't see video lagging even with HD video.

  • THANK'S SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • If I click track effects it shows up in the wrong place and I can't get it back.

  • @Ashanmaril Track the track effects window onto the center of the Sony Vegas window, resize it, and when using it in the future, close that window using the x in the upper right corner

  • Thankyou SO much!!

  • this didnt help :( it restarted it :) but the thing is that isnt the problem:( i'll draga effect onto a video and normally it would come up with how to customise it but somehow that window has been moved or deleted :( how do i get it back? cheers xx

  • the nyou have to re install

  • Thanks so much!

  • My Video Event Fx Is On The same tab as my video preview so when ever i add new effects i have to click on and off the video preview tab]is there anyway i can move 1 over to the other side ?

  • @xC0DKiiNGx Yes, Just grab the video fx tab and pull it over to another window

  • OMIGOSH thank you SO much, you ROCK!

  • When I press view 'Video FX' it opens the Video FX in a window. I don't want it in a window I want it as it would normally be. Please help?

  • @Homerball667 After it opens in a window, drag that window to full screen. Then always close windows using the x in the right corner of the window

  • @guerillabill I fixed it now Bill. Thanks.

  • How do you undock the tabs and crap!!!

Oh my god, I've punched my moniter because Sony Vegas keeps docking everything! (I do not recommend doing so, I have a big old moniter, and I split open one of my knuckles XDD)

  • @Dominator046 You can dock undock any window by dragging the window to the place you want it. Also, use ;view' from the top toolbar to show or hide windows

  • Thank you, I'm sorry for the drasticness of my message XDD.

That problem has plagued me for a long time, and has been a big nuisance.

Thank you very very much for the help = ).

  • thank you very much

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU :3

  • I dunno if you can help me but i have the two of the same clips and when i want to add different effects to each one, The effects appear on both. I have sony vegas 8 and i don't know how to fix it. Do you know how to?

  • @augustflower1 Use the video fx icon on each clip, not the track effects icon.

  • @guerillabill I don't use the track effects icon. But i'll try it.

  • THANK YOU! :D

  • How do i fix the time line layers below where you put your movies/clips and such. The pictures on them aren't showing on the time line, it's completely white...

  • YOU ARE MY HERO.

  • Thank-you so much! Your videos are very helpful^^

  • Thank you SO MUCH! i thought i was done for! One of my windows in sony vegas wouldn't come up so i watched your video and learned the ctrl shift trick and i got the window back! =D

  • =D THX!

  • YOU ARE A LIVE SAVER THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't figure out how to get my Display Screen back to the default settings. The CNTL/ SHIFT KEYS SAVED ME.

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hmmm, having a lot of trouble. I recently tried adding a text media, accidently moved it off the screen. However, when i click insert text media, "sample text" appears in the "Project Media" section. How would i edit the text from there. I have clicked on the timeline by hitting generated media but no luck as well as pressing shift and control to default settings.

  • See my YouTube video, 'Finding lost windows in Sony Movie Studio'

  • BMyers, I use Sony Vegas 8 Pros. Everything works fine except my view finder when I want to preview a video from my Explorer Icon. I'm only getting audio. Is this a Windows issue because my visual is black until I drag the clip into the story board

  • @sven7456 If the video is mp4, mov, or encoded with divx or xvid, the missing video preview is due to missing or incorrect video codec or dll.

  • How do I get my transition/video FX window back on my monitor screen?

i think i made a dumb mistake and dragged the little window off my screen and left it there. Now everytime i click the button to mess around with the effects it pops up but OFF my screen to where i cant grab it and pull it back! i did what you said but it still does this.. pls tell me what i can do to fix this! or i cant edit my effects :(

  • Close Movie Studio. Then click and hold shift+ctrl, and click the Movie Studio icon to start it.

This will present the option to reset the screen to default layouts

  • Thanks for this mate!

  • When I have more then one layer lets say 9. Track 1+2 = video 3= audio and rest in video. Ive made part of my video in 3 to 9 and I add an other video in track 1 or 2. no problem so far until I move it, all the tracks below move too Its really annoying. is there any solution for this?

  • Turn off autoripple, or set it to only work with affected tracks

  • Alright i have a question-

I have most of my video made, But when i start playing it, I only hear the music and see VERY laggy quality, even when only sony vegas is open (Sony 9)

    How can i fix this?

  • If the video is mov format, laggy quality is expected in preview mode.

    Same with HD.

Setting your project properties to match the source video helps the quality.

Generally, you'll get high quality when you render.

On very fast Windows 7 computers with plenty of Ram, this won't be a problem

  • how can i change the backgorund of a video on vegas plat 8?

and also i can't make a lettering title effect. if u could make a tutorial plz. thnx

  • To add text and titles, see my youtube video 'Add text titles in Sony Vegas & Movie Studio'.

To change a video background, shoot the video with a greenscreen background, and then apply the chromakey effect - see youtube video 'Creating green screen chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio'

  • THANKS

  • OMG thx sooooooooo much!!!!!!

  • thank you soooo muchh... such a relife
