Fascinating, and from what I have read on the web, this time (April '44) was when the death of the Luftwaffe as an effective defensive force against the might of the 8th Airforce and the RAF was blatantly evident to the allies as well as to Germany. The losses of experienced pilots in Feb to May was the main reason.
