  • Do you live in the US? Where did you buy buy this!? :0

  • sure, nintendo could have produced an item like this themselves. but it doesn't fit with their marketing strategy. they don't tailor their consoles & accessories to satisfy hardcore gamers or technophiles because that's not the intended audience. hence the reason why wii is barely any more powerful than gamecube, doesn't have an HDMI port, and why it wouldn't be able to natively render games at 1080 resolution even if it did have an HDMI port (or an official adapter).

  • @gangpill It was all a marketing strategy, those smart bastard made THIS console so later on they could make an HD one and make millions, besides HD wasn't very important to them back then, they focused more of motion control and all that stuff and it worked....i'm going to buy the Wii U when it comes out hahahah

  • DAH!!! Nintendo!!! Why didn't you just put an HDMI port on the Wii?!?!??! You would make life SSSOOOO much easier for us!!!

  • @SSBMsounds leaving features out = cheaper manufacturing and bigger profits. remember gamecube originally had component video. but nintendo decided not enough people were using it to justify the cost, so they dropped the component, leaving later model gamecubes with only composite video. likewise with wii... at some point, somebody at nintendo MUST have suggested HDMI but the idea got shot down: "nah too expensive. target audience is little kids who don't own nice TVs, so why waste the money."

  • @gangpill They still could have made an adapter cable to buy separate though

  • This video has been really helpful, actually. I recently got myself a Samsung SyncMaster P2770 w/ a 1ms refresh (?) as an external monitor for my MacBook Pro. There's a larger Sony Bravia television in the other room that suffers from subSTANTial lag exploited by the Wii, specifically.

I was investigating an HDMI adapter this afternoon & this video has been really helpful, thank you again. --PS, what brand is your HDMI adapter, specifically?

  • does this break your warenty

  • ???? i didnt understand... i have a hdmi i cable it so... if go there from internet channel my wii will turn HD? or i need that cable who is back your wii???

  • @paraguana66 lol, yes the Wii has no HDMI slot so you plug the HDMI ket into the back of you wii(normal Red yellow white slot) then the hdmi cable into that then go to the internet channel and it changes it for you.

  • @Kuribohchaos8 ok tnx :D well now i just have to find it.................... i didnt find it xDD i have componet cable :D HDMI is better than component cable right?

  • @paraguana66 yes

  • @paraguana66

Not on Wii it's not. It's an adapter that will actually slightly degrade your signal quality. That may not actually create a noticeable difference but it will exist.

Nintendo Wii is only capable of outputting a 480P signal. That being said, it looks like this device actually scales the image for you and it may do some cleaning up, I'm not sure. But either way you're Wii will not be outputting a 1080P signal because of this device.

  • @Zethion True, its more like the wii 480p signal went into a pc and then that pc outputs it through the TV.

The best way i can describe it is if you played a ps2 game on your ps3, it scales it just like that.

what would be smart is if someone can create a adapter that makes the wii use progressive scan mode on wii games. What that does is make your output = to the tv's resolution, so gamecube games like smash bros melee will be 1080p (visually) regardless of the Wii's 480p signal

  • @Kuribohchaos8 I'm thinking of buying this and a HDMI Cable for my families new 55 inch Vizio LCD HDTV so you said certain games will drop back to 480i like Smash Bros. and Twilight Princess

  • @TUdaToken idk about twilight princess, but brawl yes

  • does it smooth the jagged edges of wii games, because that's my biggest (and only) problem with the wii.

  • @BRiTDRAG2 yes

  • Comment removed

  • @Kuribohchaos8 wait, how much? have the "jaggies" been reduced majorly, or is it just barely noticable?

  • @BRiTDRAG2 if you ever seen the original ps3 with ps2 backwards compatibility, its the exact same thing. It changes the screen size and increase the sharpness to become 1080p

  • Ok i had/have a problem. I have an hdtv. I had both the ps3 and wii connected to it through composite cables. The problem was whenever it played either console, the timing was off. What i mean by that is that there was a 2 second delay on the screen whenever i pressed a button. I bought an hdmi for the ps3 and i no longer had any sort of delay on the screen. Will buying an HDMIkey get rid of any delay i have whenever im playing on the wii?? Do you experience any lag with HDMIkey?

  • @MassG69 i never experienced something like that before

  • The HDMIkey is not good yet, maybe in a future update. IMHO, the Wii2HDMI provides a sharper & more vibrant image. The HDMIkey picture is too blurry and the colors on are washed out on the games I have tried. I have tested this with Sony KDL52XBR9 TV with STR-DN1000 receiver, using a Monoprice HighSpeed HDMI cable. Also, when updated to 1080p, the image does not even fill up the screen! This is with Wii set at 16:9, 480p. For now Wii2HDMI is the best option, better than component.

  • @ThrasherStarscream It seems hdmikey works completely different on each tv. Look at google for "picasaweb cawernigo" and you will find some screencaps about component vs hdmikey... it's almost impossible to find some differences between them, so I guess this device will work fine were internal TV upscalers fail.

PS: ppl said that if you switch wii to 4:3 format and then 16:9 again then image will fit to the screen.

  • I had the shaky screen problem at first, the screen would hickup every few sec, i changed to a different hdmi cable and the problem was solved, anyway im in 1080p now with no green line problem and all my games look so much better.

  • @matrixloader i fixed the shaky screen problem and you were right, its the hdmi cable.

Cause i used my ps3 one (hdmi silver) the first time then used xbox360 one (hdmi gold) and the gold one works perfect.

However i still have the green line, but its only when i play Sonic 4.

  • @Kuribohchaos8 the ps3 hdmi is what i had used first too and that was a 1.4 hdmi cable, the 3d ready type cable for ps3 , that one game me the shaky screen , the one im using now is also hmdi silver but its a spare that came with my hd computer monitor think that one must be a 1.3 type cable , that one has no shakes.

hopefully hdmikey looks in to this and updates that small issue on the next update.

over all I think the HDmikey does wonders to the Wii over the component cables. Im very happy.

  • I have the Wii2HDMI, and I'm thinking about going over to HDMIkey. Is there any noticeable lag/delay due to HDMIkey 1080p upscaling? Also, there were a couple comments about a green line going across the screen. Can someone elaborate on this? thanx in advance. Just fyi, the Wii2HDMI is pretty good. Does not upscale, but I feel that the digital connection makes the blacks a little more black, and provides convenience of running everything through 1 cable.

  • @ThrasherStarscream no lag, but its not perfect yet, it gets updates to the device

  • DOES HDMIKEY WORK WITH ALL THE FIRMWARES?

  • @344444443 yes, and even with homebrew stuff. But as i said, its not perfect yet, cuase certain games force the wii to adjust the resolution.

basically, its perfect for anything on the wii dashboard and menu. but for the games, it works buts its not 100% yet

  • @Kuribohchaos8 i´ll wait for the updates. Thaks a lot.

  • ok, i finally got it to go to 1080p, instructions where on the business card that came in the box, hdmikey . com / manager /

i can deff see a difference in the pixelation, there is less of that on the characters and the lines are much finer. I will try to make my own comparison video.

  • I forgot to mention, as for right now, i notice its made for 4:3 screen mode (it works on widescreen but theres some bugs it need to sort out before it perfect)

so if you set both your wii and tv to 4:3 then its perfect. but on 16:9 it has some issues, like that green line for example.

  • ok just tried to set it up to 1080p but failed, how do set it up to enter the hdmikey manager?

  • oh nevermind, i skipped trough the video and didn't notice that you need to got to opera browser to set to 1080p. i will try it tomorrow.

  • i just got mine in today, i opened it right away and tested it out, there where no instructions on how to change the settings on it but just from plugging it in and doing a few comparisons of the HDmikey and component there is a very good noticeable difference, the Hdmikey looks better, better color on screen, seems more vivid, more smooth images. my tv said it was still 480p. not sure how to go into the setting on it yet.

  • @matrixloader i said the same thing, it took me 3 hours to figure out theres a button on the device that you can push with a pen/pin/toothpick and hold it and it goes into the menu.

Reset and Info do the same thing.

after you go to the manager on the homebrew browser, and click the 1080p button it changes the resolution to 1080p.

  • @Kuribohchaos8 So you can set hdmikey to 1080p using that button?... I mean, don't you need to access to an specific website to change settings?

  • @wichotest No, you have to use the website for now, because it has a bug where, if its in 1080p, and you access the hdmikey menu, the screen will keep jumping

  • Interesting... so, does it looks better than Component cable?

What about the jaggies... how do they look now?

  • @wichotest yes it does look better than the component cable.

Without any changes its already bright sharper, more crisp. then after you put 1080p its even better. BUT it does not yet work on all games, cause some games cause the wii to shift back to 480i (like smash bros brawl).

Also theres some minor issues, like that green line and in other games its a little color error on the top of the screen only in widescreen mode
