There are always going to be comparisons to who is/was the best. I'd have to say first and foremost *I am a Led Zeppelin fan and saw then live 7 times. I also saw Rush and neil peart several times and in my opinion they were both at the top of the food chain for all time greatest drummers. I saw Bonzo do 20+ min solos each time and never saw neil peart approach that. All that aside though, Bonzo did more with less and you *felt* his beats all the way to your soul!! Zep= greatest 4 artists ever..

John Bonham and Neil Peart are simply in an elite class of their own (along with Moon). When I first picked up the drums and started to get my groove on...I tried so hard to drum like Bonham...I would cut my head constantly from flailing my sticks wildly like he did...but of course I could never hit the drum head...only my own.

I also really dig Dave Lombardo's and Joey Jordison's sound/style as well.

But you can not compare the two...as it is totally different eras of technology and music.

while yes bonham was one of THE greatest drummers of all time and the greatest drummer of his generation, i have to say that the way buddy rich could play and what he did to influence a large amount of drummers earns him the title of greatest drummer. and on the subject of bonhams small set, buddy rich used an upside down floor tom as a seat.. if thats not simplicity i dont know what it. but either way bonham is a god.

John Bonham is the reason why I took up drumming. A lot of drummers can play fast and have double bass and the nice flashy gigantic sets, but this man is using 1970's tech. and a simple kit with some added accents. Best rock n' roll drummer ever!

neil peart's technical play on the drums is more advanced. he can play the most different and odd types of signatures 4 each with a different limb. which is why he is regarded as the best. i still place John Bonham in the top 5 if not 10 drummers of all time. Buddy Rich, Neil Peart, John Bonham, Keith moon. some of the best
