@missknikkiann Well evalovesbob says that the cave caved in. Really hope that it's there still iffen it is go on into the cave and look along the right hand wall of the cave and you will notice a side opening go up into it, with torch, and check out the long corridor at the end you will see a concrete slab door..I always wondered what was behind it...MYSTERIOUS my imagination runs rampant you know pirates, privateers, smugglers and such....
For StuartOld, the cave you're talking about is gone mate!!! About 15 years ago or maybe more there was a big storm and the whole cave fell in. It was behind what is now Belushi's pub.
@morse778 OH That's such a big bummer. But Morse did ya, when it was still there, ever go into it and look along the right hand side wall of the cave? Iffen you did you couldn't have missed it. Such things as that is so very CORNISH. reminds me though I didn't like it at the time about Treasure-Isand. I was literally forced to read that by the head-master of my school in Exeter. Didn't appreciate it back then, but now looking back I am glad that I was made to read the book. Thanks again. Stu.
Newkus..!!! You lucky son-of-a-bitch. I currently live in San Diego in So-Cal. U.S.A. I gravely miss Newquay. My Grandma used to live on St.Annes Road. Those years were the happy years of my life. Then I had to go to Prep school in Exeter..what a phuckin' drag that was. But Newquay will always be in my heart. My Mom now lives in Perranporth. I mean it when I say that you are lucky..u r blessed let me tell ya. My cousins family, I believe, still runs the "Highbury Hotel" close to where you live.
@chloweee123 Just got yer message. Yeah, I lived in number 17. whaow small world. Your so lucky wish that I was you living in the most beautiful county in England. God yer lucky Girl-friend.
@chloweee123 So where do you live on St. Annes Road? Up towards the end of the road where there are shops, or down at the other end where if you turn left you go down a steep street--or up and...well there used to be an orphanage on the left hand side just before you cross the main street to go to the barrow-fields..Go diagonally across towards the harbor and you are looking down at Tolcarne Beach. Used to stand by the metal railing at sun-set and admire those beautiful SUN-SETS!!
@StuartOld Number 15 xD. Two doors down from your old housee haa. I think its a hotel now where the orphanage used to be but im not sure.. Theres also a doctors on the corner opposite barrowfields lmao i dunno if that was there before lmao. x
@chloweee123 Well actually it was me Granny's and me Grandpas hauwse. So if you are looking across the street are you to the left or to the right..two doors down??
Yeah I had alot of good memories when I was living there..I used to get lost alot..so you'd dare not tell me to get lost. Yeah I'd be havin' the local constablary out on a drag-net lookin' fer me arse cuz lil Stuy has gotten himself lost again
@StuartOld Haha i was walking home and yesterday and realised that number 17 is actually attached to my house, so there you go xD. and how did yuo manage to gut lost?! its not the biggest place in the worldd haa x
@chloweee123 Well Chlowee I was about 4-5 years old at the time, and I was then living at the caravan site at Trenance Gardens. I then was going to the Trenance kiddies school on top of the hill. After 3:30 p.m. I'd get out of school for the day, and I'd start to wander off as I guess I ended up going exploring. Well, by the time that 5:30 would role around it would suddenly occur to me that I should be getting on home..but then I'd discover to my amazement that I didn't know where I was. cont.
@chloweee123 And so I'd start to panic and wonder the streets crying looking to find my way home. Meanwhile, back at home my mother would have gotten home and once again had to call the local police again explaining that lil' Stuy has gotten lost again. Of course looking back I can only imagine just how embarrasing it must have been for my elders..and of course Newquay being a small town everybody no-doubt had heard about it.
@chloweee123 My cousins parents owned the 'Highbury' Hotel, and my great-aunt owned the Hotel next door I remember something like..Trebarwith?? My mother's mother lived in 9 Springfield Road, and me Mum later lived on Porth-Bean Road, and later lived @ 44, Edgcumbe Road/Ave. Edgcumbe is the Road that goes down to Trenance Gardens. Up on the woods by the old via-duct that the train used to go over there..used to be a budgerigar bird avery I used to spend alot of time after school there. continued
@chloweee123 now-a-days me mum lives in Perranporth which as you know is just down the road from Newquay. So you live in the ajoining half next to 17 St. Annes?? Nothing much has changed for me from when I was a kid..except that now I am in America and I am older, yes I do know how to get home Geographically, but I'm still trying to get back home..It's kinda ironic really "though times may change; yet still some things remain the same." It almost feels like the gods are laughing at me.
This is for Newkus: Talking about those waves on Towan-Beach..I remember seeing B/W photos that were taken of the South Quay of the harbor back in the turn of the 1900's, and what this particular photo showed was that this Quay was completely engulfed by this enormous wave..quite literally the quay had disappeared under the waves/water. And talk about sea-spray hitting all over the place. I mean it looked awesome. As you probably do know yerself from first hand experience. That's why u r lucky.
Wow!!Thanks for posting, weve had some of our best holidays in Cornwall,Ive always wanted to see the Other side of it when it was a bit rough, but never managed to make it down. Are you posting your pics anywhere of the storm at Fistral,I would LOVE to see them,Pretty please? Is the sea life centre OK,weve been in a few times, and are kinda attatched to it!!
dont know where i can post the fotos apart from my bebo or facebook lol yeh and sealife centre should be ok will let you know tomorrow but it was bit rough down there xx
@PutrifyingEagor Hey..I wouldn't worry about that Marine Aquarium it has seen many a storm through-out the local history and it is still there..And believe me i have seen some real bad storms taken in b&w photos of the Quay that adjoins to Towan Beach. I remember seeing as a boy a B&W photo that my grand-father had and there was this wave that literally swallowed up the whole quay..And guess what that Quay is still there. The photo was taken back in around 1906??
yeh you got it that was taken at 6 oclock tonight an hr befor high tide thankyou for watching it xxxxxx it was worse at fistral but only got fotos of that
@winds1968 Eva been and sat at the Fly-sellers....? You know that place that is between the Southern Quay is it?? and the Headland now that would be a nice place to be in a Storm plus you have the benefit of getting some respite from the prevailing winds by getting some shelter in that stone-concrete structure that is at the back of the FLIES!!

KERNOW ehh?? and fer always..You can take the boy out of KERNOW, but you can't take the KERNOW out of the boy..
yeah..when I was a kid it was actually an art gallery, though it would be a nice place to live..eh? Also, at low tide head towards the harbor wall and before you get there there is a cave go on in about 20-30 yds and look on the right side wall of the cave (you will need a torch/flashlight) you will see some steps carved into the rock and a passageway/an offshoot sister cave going into the rockface go up that and see what's at the end of this small cave...kinda reminds ya of "Smugglers" of Old.
yeah..my cousin Keith showed me this when I was a kid. We came upon what looked like to be a solid concrete walled up door, and we as kids of about 8-10 yrs often would wonder at what was behind that door..could be, or maybe pirate/smugglers treasure. Anywho, it set our imaginations to a workin' overtime. Never did find out about the history of that cave and what it was for and who dug it out and why they sealed it back up. So you guys check it out let me know iffen it is still there. thannks.
hi there ive not checked this for months as u can see well to my disapointment i have just moved away i love the place myself an moved 2 weeks ago i miss it so much and all the locals who are now my mates i will be visiting a lot though i have plenty of photos of newquay as i was a keen photographer and lanty of vry vary good memories i shant stay away too long thanku for your comments xxxx
@winds1968 Yeah well I wish I were you..The whole place..Cornwall is a magical place..good place to mediate I would think. The Irish have their Lepricauns..and the Cornish they have their 'Cornish Piskies' and 'Cornish Knockers'. Winds 1968 go and check out that cave..and go see..of course yer gonna need a torch, and look along the right hand side of the wall of that cave..I'm not lying to ya..go take a look.
