  • that was fucking sweet.

  • 4 people didn't leave that thing alone

  • i dont find this impressive at all. cliff burton listed geddy as an influence but he could slay geddy when it comes to bass and hes been dead for 25 years. flame me i fucking dare yas

  • @lisaandarron "flame me i fucking dare yas" Lol only idiots would feed a troll

  • @jjhh2

yeah looks like you just fed me you doorknob

  • @lisaandarron Cliff Burton better than Geddy? Please. Cliff couldn't even do a decent solo without adding some cheesy effect to make him sound like he was doing something "special".

  • @tonymuse

you obviously know fuck all about bass if you think cliff used effects to get his sound. he used a wah pedal and a distortion pedal. cliff burton rules all!

  • @lisaandarron LOL... You're opinion is obviously obscured by Metallica-colored glasses. Nothing wrong with that, every band needs it's loyal following. As for me? I have been playing the bass guitar for nearly 30 years and have had to learn more songs than I care to remember. I would venture to say that I could learn an entire Burton-era Metallica song in the time that it would take me to learn an average Rush song. And yes, wah and distortion pedals are, by definition, effects.

  • @lisaandarron Bass guitar + distortion = cheesy.

  • @tonymuse tell that to lemmy from motorhead idiot!

  • @lisaandarron LOL, you remind me of my cousin who was an avid AC/DC fan. He tried to convince me that Phil Rudd was the best drummer in the world. Sure, give me Lemmy's email address and I'll tell him that distortion on a bass guitar is cheesy.

  • @tonymuse

    fuck your an idiot

  • @tonymuse Yeah i agree, which chump said he was better than Geddy?.

  • @85Aheadstix It was lisaandarron. Have fun! LOL

  • @tonymuse Dick head, and im a drummer! :D

  • This video went viral on Rwanda

  • as I said...not slapping the way it is "understood" neither plucking....as you can hear there are some little slaps he does with his left hand as he frets the notes as he describes "attacks" the bass with his right hand hard plucking/pulling/ hammering....one of a kind this Geddo!

  • @Sanson101 Lol pretty sure John Entwistle was the first one to "attack" the bass, but then again I'm not exactly sure who came first.

  • @2MrTwoCents2 Sure The Ox came first ( Rotosunds, Trebly tone, Tapping technique)...the Geddman is a kind of mixture between Ox, Bruce and Squire mostly...all blended and then came with his own thing...I like him more than the other 3 separatelly....for some reason his musicality/tone/ghostly notes on da Bass Guitar turns me on deeper than the other gentleman...great players on their own , but for me the Geddo is da Man!!...Have a happy 2012 and we will see what the Clockwork Angels brings on!!

  • top marks!

  • Why listen to dubstep when geddy drops the heaviest bass lines of all

  • pnadolski0216 you are fucking awesome, thats the way i feel about rush too. fuck those 4 dislikes there just jealous they cant do nothing like that. thats weird why did four cock suckers view this, they probly listen to techno, like fags they are.

  • Geddy=Yoda of bass. Neil=Yoda of drums. Alex=Yoda of guitar. Enough said. -Rush for life-

  • he often uses the finger-picking technique with a very aggressive touch. In the 80' with his wal he became to play some parts of his basslines with the popping technique.the bass solo at the begining of the song 'The electric body' is an example..

  • hey you three percent you effing suck!!!!!!!!!

by the way geddy you rock!!!!!

  • geddy is a monster on bass, one of the greatest rock and roll bass player´s ever..hands down!

  • Nice to see a bass solo THAT ISN'T SLAP!

  • "rash" is a little joke that they had during the time machine tour ;)

  • Is he wearing a tshirt that says 'RASH'?

  • @lavinus hahahah yeh i just noticed that too !! xD

  • @boxfreak007 no i do not can u explain it to me?

  • whats up with the RASH shirt?

  • @topher87090 Do you know the reference behind that?

  • I just likes how he walks away like that at the end. I find it so funny for some reason.

  • What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy?

I know him, and he does.

    Then you're my fact-checkin' cuz!

  • Why can't I play bass like that?

  • Awesome shot, biss88. What kind of camera did you use ?

  • God = Geddy!

  • @merlinmcmagic Woah, woah, woah. You are wrong on so many levels. Chuck Norris=Geddy Lee sorry had to do it ;)

  • @boxfreak007 all praise be to the Chuck almighty. bizinga...

  • @merlinmcmagic ha! :D

  • I thought he was slapping/popping the bass o.O amazing how he can play so aggressive without getting tired

  • RUSH, PLZ COME TO SAINT JOHN NB!!!!

  • LOving the steampunk style stage set-up :)

  • @bassguy511 whoever says that is a retard, if you listen to a song with no bass it sounds like shit

  • awesome quality sound and video.

  • @SgtZaa. You're right! XD

  • funny thing about Geddy is the fact that he doesn't slap da bass

  • @SgtZaqq that's because geddy was originally a guitarist. he tired buying his first guitar of Alex, and this is how the band started. since was initially a guitarist, and slapping is not a guitar technique, he probably never learned to slap.

  • @SnowyCamel so why he isn't playing with a pick? Geddy style finger plucking is not a guitar technique too. And of course the real reason why Geddy doesn't slap is the fact rock bassists usually don't use slapping.

  • Comment removed

  • @SnowyCamel classical guitar is played in a different way. And that's not a reason.

  • @SnowyCamel On an interview, Geddy said he tried to use slap on his playing, but it didn't fit well with the kind of music Rush plays.

He doesn't slap the bass, but he definitely pops a lot (popping).

  • @SgtZaqq I'm sure he could do it if he wanted to tho

  • @SgtZaqq I think he does it in his very own way...he is not one of these "generic" bass slappers....his approach is totally unique and artistic.

  • @Sanson101 that's not slapping. That's finger plucking, man.

  • @SgtZaqq I'm really glad he's never gotten into the whole slapping thing. It's so overdone nowadays that it's almost comical. Geddy's hard plucking style gives him a really unique sound anyway.

  • Fantastic BASS PLAYER!!!

  • @alxparas1 The best ever :)

  • Screw the one person that disliked -_-

  • @ImprovisarLaBateria I think it's the nephilim.

  • I love that he actually plays his own Signature bass live. Makes me feel so much better about buying mine.

  • I saw Rush during the UK tour, front row at Sheffield arena! This solo made me get goosebumps! Exchanging eye contact and smiles with Geddy throughout the entire set, greatest night of my life, the show was spectacular!!!

  • john entwistle, Geddy, victor wooten, John Paul jones and michael todd! fave bassists!

  • Slappin' da bass!!! :D

  • fuck me! that is absolutely class.

  • I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE BASS PLAYER THAT CAN RUN CIRCLES AROUND GEDDY LEE!!!!! AS COMMENTED BELOW??? NAMES PLEASE??

  • What the hell is going on in the background??? I saw them do this live in Hershey and I still don't understand what the hell is goin' on. Something about hammers bobbing their heads ???????

  • @HartsChannel I would imagine that it is for the same reason why they sometimes do laundry on stage: because they can.

  • Great video--thanks for sharing!

  • He looks and acts like my bassist........

  • slappin da bass :D

lol yeah I know it's overused

  • @MXyosniz Actually the definition of solo is singular play. Three instruments playing at full volume do not a solo make. What is going on in this video is the JAM, which is an extended jazz like section.

  • the song name is "leave that thing alone".

  • Comment removed

  • weon bakan......realmente las kaga.....increible!!!

    amazing........the best bass player!!!

    greetings from Chile

  • Comment removed

  • What song is this?

  • @111agb "Leave That Thing Alone."

  • Geddy's just enjoying himself. :)

  • I WAS THERE ! :D

  • I was waitign to see a SOLO, but apparently BIS88 has NO IDEA wat a SOLO is.

  • better than flea.

  • Annotation says: "Watch in 720p"

Why would I? I'm here to listen to Geddy Lee!

  • Truly amazing! Got to see 'en play live in Manchester England the other night. Excellent!!!

  • people check out tom kennedy

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 the technique is not everything and Clarke and claypool I would say are better than Geddy Lee as a technical.

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 Oh come on...

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 Pastorius, Clarke, Miller, Wooten, Les Claypool, Entwistle, Jack Bruce...

  • STELLAR!!! Ged is a beast on bass!!!!

  • fuck yeah geddy lee!!!!! Hes been up in the best bass spot since they have ever been heard!

  • i've never witnessed him cut loose like that! he gave quebec a treat. i mean i've seen little flish flashes here and there over the years, and only on the internet and definitley nothing recent. he's never done that for houston.

i didnt know he had it in him!

  • Damn he's good!

  • love your bass solo's geddy

  • OMGAWD,that was just TOO DAMN COOL!!!!

  • All this talk of who the best bassplayer is. Stupid. It's all subjective. But I can tell you one thing for a fact: Geddy is MY favorite bassist, no matter what the rest of you think. Entwhistle, Flea, Jaco, Squire, JPJ, all good, but I'd rather see and hear Geddy play, thank you very much. (Also, MarloweDK has to be on that list LOL)

  • @RCAvhstape i agree with everything you said. including the MarloweDK portion.

  • MarlowDK is prob my fav.

  • @RCAvhstape Btw MarloweDK's name is Thomas Rissel.

  • 1:11 his keyboard has a cup holder haha

  • If only that was in the actual song. That was badass!

  • sick concert. but that is what you are to expect of rush.

  • 1 person couldn't t leave that dislike button alone!

  • he's great at Bass but I like Les Claypool better mainly because of the style of music but I'm sure Geddy lee is better since Claypool was idolized by him

  • Best bass player in the history of bass players hands down!

  • @bassmachine666 Actually I think John Enwhistle was the best bass player in Rock history, but Geddy is the best living bass player and a close second to Entwhistle.

  • I HATE RUSH!

IF YOU LISTEN THEM AT AGE OF 6 ... NO OTHER BAND CAN BE GOOD!

    I AM BLIND FOR RUSH.

  • Geddy is an absolute BEAST!!

  • Awesome bass playing. And the drums sound amazing too!

  • this was a great tour i saw this in syracuse ny last summer and it sounded great

  • That thumbs down rating MUST be an abberation...Some infinitesimal glitch in the tubes of the internet....Or, is there really some lone jack-off out there who just can't grasp and appreciate musicality on a complex level ?? I respect and accept a difference of opinion, but I'm sorry - thumbing this down is an automatic FAIL...

  • @DaemonicNimrod Or it can be someone making a mistake. It happens from time to time, you know.

I still don't know why Youtube didn't add a confirmation window on the dislike button. A pop-up like "Do you want to dislike this video?" shouldn't be that difficult to implement.

  • @DeftCrowMk3

Sure. Someone making a mistake. Happens from time to time. "Oooops..Damn!! I meant to hit the button marked thumbs up, but I made a mistake"......Yes, I'm sure that's what happened in this case. Unintended human error. The person who mistakenly thumbed this down also mistakenly overlooked the word "Like" too.

  • Most underestimated, underpublished and understated band EVER!

  • @TheBrenf430

To your statement I couldn't agree more..Rush is the standard by which all bands should be measured by. Who'd even come close??

  • I think the title of this song came when they wrote the instrumentals, then geddy said "Neil, dont you have lyrics for me?" and neil said "nah, just leave that thing alone."

  • lol does his shirt say "RASH" on it....geddy is the best!

  • This is a great vid, man, thanks for capturing this. Love watching Geddy play the bass, he could go on like that for a half hour and I'd never get tired of hearing it.

  • justin bieber fans; leave that 'thumbs down' button alone!!

  • Rush is my favorite band but as much as I like Geddy's bass solo here I think even he would be the first to tell us all he is no match when compared to John Entwistle. See for yourselves, check out Entwistle's bass solo. Wow! Drums: Peart! No argument. Guitar, I think even Clapton said he was no match for Stevie Ray Vaughn. Many greats there as well. It's sorta like trying to split hairs. God bless.

  • one person didn't leave that thing alone!

  • Good good.

  • I was there.Magic band.Saw them 7 times, really enjoi every show but this one was something special. Can't wait the next gig.

  • Could he - would he play with Parliament?

  • He was rocking out harder than this and soloing longer in Wichita, I swear.

  • i get to go see these guys in april! u have no clue how excited i am and its still december.

  • @TheSinge83 I'M GOING THEN TOO! Hershy PA here I come. 2 days before my birthday too

  • @Jschrader96 thats gotta be the best birthday gift ever

  • he can play guitar with the bass, he can play drums with the bass, he can sing with the bass, he knew how to play bass before learning how to play bass.

that's how damn good he is.

  • what is the name of this song????

  • @xxxazuredragonxxx "leave that thing alone"

  • hes not using his signature bass :O

  • Got to love Lee's facial expressions

  • i don't remember him doing this in St. Louis =(

  • My faviroute bassist of all time. i have a huge respect for basists from jaco to flea and all inbetween like wooton, hamm, sting, turner, claypool and every other bassist on the planet from me to you but i find geddy's bass lines are amazing and fresh

  • Comment removed

  • when are these guys coming to australia .

  • What type of camera are you using

  • Put this on a loop and play that in my mind for the rest of my life. His faces crack me up. I love all three of them to death but there's no doubt that Geddy is my favorite.

    RUSH forever!

  • Oh please I beg you, baby Jesus: make my fingers do that right at least just once by the time I'm 57!!!!

  • check out that rash shirt he's got.

  • @belial1237

he wore that in the acc too.

  • @belial1237 I own one, a guy sold one at the end of the show, probably bootleg, but i like it anyway, only $20

  • @belial1237 it's from his Time Machine's intro video XD

    Part 1: dont be RASH

  • @belial1237 i went to the lsat show on there tour this summer last night and he wore that shirt.lol

  • @TheNecromancer71 Ya that concet was AMAZING THE GORGE IS THE BEST

  • @belial1237 i got that shirt

  • No doubt Geddy can really shread a bass, but I sure miss seeing him behind that black and white Rickenbacker.

  • @ssc435d he uses it all the time, he uses it on this tour

  • ooohhh gave me chills!!! love it!

  • my favorite all time bass thumper

  • Best bass player ever!

  • @chokfm No.

  • @chokfm ??????? really? I'm a HUGE Geddy Lee fan and have been for years. He's truly talented and has tasteful licks but Best? I'd have to say that there are any number of youngsters these days that can truly play circles around him.

  • @faithandpractice its videos like this that prove you wrong there. I am one of the youngsters (to blow my own trumpet..) that could maybe be as good as geddy, but when he throws out stuff like this, you just feel back to square one.

  • @bathroomDesignsIdeas Really? You think that it's videos like this that prove me wrong? With respect I'd have to disagree. Geddy is great BUT this there isn't anything "special" about this piece. I'm a guitar player and could pull off that piece (certainly not some of his other stuff though). Yea as a band Rush is one of my all time favorite bands but Geddy can hang with..... say...... Victor Wooten. That's a whole different deal there.

  • @faithandpractice Alright go make a video pulling it off than. We've got the fucking next Geddy Lee right here folks!

  • @faithandpractice

This is him making badass bass music, not him trying to be better than anyone.

Geddy at full potential will kick ANY little youngsters ass. Simple as that.

No youngsters these days can make ANYTHING NEARLY as musically appealing playing the bass like Geddy can.

  • @Theutubedudeyo "No youngsters these days can make ANYTHING NEARLY as musically appealing playing the bass like Geddy can" as he tips his hand revealing his lack of knowledge about music. Musical appeal is a personal matter. You and I agree that Geddy soars when it comes to musical appeal but there are some that may simply "prefer" something else. Does that make them wrong? No. Then there is the mater of technicality. That's more objective. There are more technically "advanced" players.

  • Its not a song lol

    \/. Instrumental

  • Which song is that ?!?

  • @ElsataVidz Leave That Thing Alone from Counterparts album

  • @ElsataVidz Leave That Thing Alone from Counterparts album

  • Awesome footage! Thanks for sharing!

  • his face. made my day
