  • Superb!!

  • This is baroque music... but not baroque ballet... but a bad interpretation of it.

Great movie! I think it's reakky better than the "man in the iron mask" with L.di Caprio.

  • Por supuesto. No tiene punto de comparación con esa porquería que hicieron en 1998. Esta joyita la tengo en video. / This movie is by far better than the 1998 version, and the music through all the film is superb. It´s a pity Allyn Ferguson has not the great acclaim he deserves.

  • Esta película es mucho mejor que el mamarracho que hicieron Di Caprio y otros hace un tiempo...

  • Le Roi danse!

  • i see this film and i remember the scene of the court dance when the queen noted that is not the king...and made a silence deal.....so good someone have that scene in youtube?.

  • got 2 say this scene like the rest of the movie is mind blowing on magic mushrooms....watched it on tv 2day tripping ...it the best movie everrrrrrrrrrrrrrwow

  • The 17th century was quite a wild & colorful time in European-History

  • I love baroque, but that costume reminds me of the Burger King.

  • @LexPhilogus ...Are you sure it's not mainly the crown and the funky wig?

  • @LaBelleDanse That's pretty much it

  • @LexPhilogus LOLL

  • This scene is in the gardens of Vaux Le Vicomte

  • It's a Arragement of two Ballets from Lullys Alceste, a Menuet (first Part 0:00 to 0:47) an the Final Scene "Triomphez genereux Alcide" (Second Part 0:47 to 1:44 )

  • @derLullist ...Many thanks for finally solving the mystery for us. You are indeed the Lully specialist!

It's interesting the way they merged the two pieces, isnt it?

By the way, they are definitely not performing minuet steps anywhere in there. ;-)

  • Vive Le Roi!

  • an excellent film, but one gets the feeling that this is'nt really a part of the richard lester series.much gloomier and less inventive.

  • If this had not been made for TV Chamberlain should have received an Oscar for playing Louis and Phillipe. It's simple perfect. Much better than DiCaprio

  • @sondano Michael Tsarion is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Dr. Bill Deagle, Jordan Maxwell, Leo Zagami and Alexandre Dumas pere are highly informative as well. "The only differenece between reality and fiction is that, fiction needs to be credible". Mark Twain

  • Love the hat on McGoohan!

  • Not his usual style is it? ;-)

  • He looked fabulous. My favorite look was the purple ensemble. Patrick was stunning in period costume.

  • the scene and dance from the final grand ball is also superb

  • Yes the final grand ball is one of my favorite parts of this film. I like the slow dance; sarabande or whatever it is, that he dances with the queen. I wish I knew the name of the piece.

  • yes is my favorite part too, when he dances with the queen, that she's know who's is he,and the changed, like she said.....she can pay the best information.....and never be take by surprise.....she wish to him a good and long reign with her's blessing!!!!

  • For a 1977 television production, they certainly got the music right. I wonder if they used an actual baroque orchestra (with period instrument) to play the music, or if they used a recording (La Grande Ecurie du Roy?).

  • Yah, it's a great movie I think in some ways better than the 1997 remake.

  • very good, I liked it

  • burger king

  • This fantastic, one of my favorite movies of all time. Thanks very much for posting this.

  • I have it on DVD. One of my personal faves too. Classic bit of swashbuckling.

  • Very insightful comment.

  • "Drag Queen" ?!

    Such ignorance!

  • Indeed, what si the name of the ballet?? Merci.

  • Fantastic. Thank you.

  • WHich ballet is this? I'm guessing its from les Amantes Magnifiques based on the costumes, but I could be completely wrong. Few movies really capture the magnificence of Louis' court like this scene.

  • Excellent question. Afraid I don't know where this music was taken from. There are other tunes in the film taken from various opera-ballets of Lully. The ball in the final sequence features the Chaconne of Amadis, for example.

Anyone out there recognize the tune in this scene?

  • Love this movie, one of my alltime favorites!
