  • Not so much a cover as a Fucking Awesome tribute!!.

  • miss the orig. singer man.....more of a punk sound

  • gotta love Celtic Rock

  • I started this video hating his voice but they did a good job working the song to their style. Pretty cool, looks like a hell of a show, and I don't know any of their music.

  • This is sick as fuck! I love it!

  • fuck yeah!!!

  • sick cover ......

  • whoa sick cover at a cool venue

  • Its a punk version and it has enrgy. besides the guitarist is jumping around like Pete Townsend. This is a tribute! No need to knock it.

  • Doesn't get said often enough, but Matt Kelly is a demon of a drummer.

  • great song, great band...i wish i was there.

  • at any point do u hold the camrea still at all ? but nice sound most people sounds like shit

  • @88crazymonkeys at any point do you film and upload anything?

  • @667extraevil lol nope cuz i dont own anything that can

  • @88crazymonkeys ...obviously you've never been to a dropkick show, its impossible to hold yourself still, let alone a camera

  • I dont need to fight to prove I'm right. I want to

  • Great song, great cover. Although when The Who play it themselves it is of the charts!!!

  • I love the concept they were going for, but his voice simply does not suit the song. I like the loud sound though.

  • I agree. It's a nice change of pace though. My favorite song ever sung by my favorite band ever. Can't go wrong.

  • this is exactly how this song should be done....raw and LOUD

  • its good but i like the whos version better

  • Give 'em credit - it's not like trying to cover Barry Manilow...

    Gutsy, if flawed...

  • dats why its a cover u clown

  • Dear jmredding and zyldyks,

Why don't the two of you pull your cocks out of each others ass and stop acting like a fucking online dick measuring contest means a motherfucking thing. Does either one of you possess the mental capacity to comprehend just how fucking retarded you sound bickering back and forth like a couple of bitch-ass school girls? IT'S FUCKING YOUTUBE! Get over your macsrcompensating personality disorders and get a fucking life.

  • Really cool cover, but The Who's version is still the best. Too bad DKM didn't play it when I saw them open for the Offspring last June in Cleveland. AWESOME SHOW!

  • Wow they did a good job, I never thought that they would be able to pull it off. Not dissing DKM, I love em but The Who is on a whole different level and genre of music.

  • this is shit...

  • I WANT THIS ON MY IPOD!

  • WATCH THIS VIDEO

( The Ballad of Francis Hughes )

    COPY AND SEARCH

  • His voice makes this song even more powerfull. But there was not much action on the stage as it would have been at The Who. Great cover though

  • this is A' grade shit right hear!

  • who. one of the coolest bands of all time. mixed with the also amazing dropkicks? my friends that is equal plain perfection

  • not a punk fan but this is pretty cool

  • pretty good :~)

  • idk that you guys are bickering, so i'm just gonna point out that i think DM was amazing with their performance of this.

it's a video. no need to wet yourselves over making a point.

  • Obviously you've never heard the Clash then. Grow the fuck up and stop acting like a teenage music snob.

  • Clearly you have no clue what so ever what punk rock has done for people. Nor listened to the Clash (like pointed out) and have no clue what real music is.

  • That's a REALLY bad argument. I mean.. It's the worst argument i've ever seen, heard, or smelled. I mean.. Your comment is just unnecessary. I WOULD stop there, but I'd like to inform you that punk music has some of the best guitarists and singers in the whole music buisness. They are better than you will ever be, they're more famous than you'll ever be, they're richer than you'll ever be. Compared to DKM, you are insignificant. So please, be quiet and leave silently.

  • Who knew? I really like DKM, but I would have bet that classical/opera had locked up some of the best best guitarists and singers in the whole music business.

  • So no one gets to comment on Major League sports that doesn't play in it?

Vegas will be thrilled that you just eradicated their sports book.

    You're a fool.

  • What the fuck? First off, I'm not even talking to you, secondly, I'm not even talking about sports.

    You're a fool.

See? I see what you did ther.. :D

  • No, but they're better than you will ever be, and make more money than you ever will as well.

Or does your logic only apply to people that disagree with you?

Secondly, you don't have to be speaking to me for me to see horrible reasoning and a lack of logical reasoning.

  • Maybe you should check out the original comment that I was replying to before trying to start an internet fight..

But of course, I do realise that you're in desperate need of quarelling, since you reply to a random person, who isn't even talking to you, and calling him a fool, which haven't been an insult since the late 16th century..

  • I read the original comment, and I completely understood it's, and your intent. I'm not as confident in your reasoning skills as you show distinct lack of logical ability.

And yes, I am rather bored, and it amuses me to attack your lack of logic using the skills you appear not to posses. It's been a slow day.

And if you think no one uses fool, watch anything with Mr T in it.

  • I only said that it hasn't been an insult since the late 16th century, but this would prove that you're not listening at all, which would make it completely pointless to try to reason with you.

I am not lacking any skills, I am simply not that motivated to prove anything to you, since I don't even know you.

The comment was designed to make somebody shut up, and was not made to make any sense at all. After all, this is Youtube..

  • Yes, but Mr T is considerably more recent than the late 16th century, as well as the fact that the meaning of "fool" hasn't changed, it is still an insult.

Yes, your comment had a purpose, but what it did was showcase your complete lack of actual argument. You might have formed a reasoned arguement rather than throw fallacies at someone, who in all likely hood will never return to read them. What do you gain from telling someone they're less than another?

  • I gain satisfaction and self-respect from telling somebody that they're less than others.

And hey, if you look really hard into my comments, you might actually be able to see Jesus Christ himself, why don't you give it a try?

I was lacking of arguments because I threw that argument together in about 4 minutes, and I wasn't even thinking.

Do I really need to prove anything to you?

I mean, I hardly know you!

  • You spent four minutes and that response was the best you could come up with?

  • Nope, It was the first thing that popped into my mind.. You spent 20 hours looking into the comment, and you didn't see Jesus?

  • ok like this version soooo much more

  • Just badass. I love it.

  • from which album is this song???

  • oh we are so pleased that you let us know that

  • i was actually replying to another comment

  • yeah, THE shit

  • very good

  • I love it *_*

  • i really like it.

i think ken maybe could have sung it better though

  • One of the best concerts i ever went to, except for the shoe i lost in the crowd surf

  • i too misplaced a shoe at a dropkick murphy show

  • Is there ANYONE who hasn't lost a shoe at a Dropkicks show?

  • I saw them a few times (I think 2 times with Against Me! and once at a festival-gig) and I've never lost a shoe.

  • 4 shows and came back with all 8 of those shoes.

    Try tying them.

  • This is awesome, I love it.

  • I agree with sublorange. Bagpipes would have been a natural move for this band, all of whose best songs include them. Further, the lead singer's vocals are not meant to be spotlighted like that. He's tone deaf and vocally talentless -- the party's in his attitude and ability to get a crowd pumping their fists and shouting.

    Bummer, could have been great.

  • i agree..instrumentally amazing...vocally worthless.

  • Maybe you are not aware, but this is a punk band. Your comment is worthless. I dont think technical accuracy was one of their goals. Its punk, love it or leave it.

  • @j0shj0sh Yeah, if you're a punk band it's ok if you suck at music.

  • @j0shj0sh I'm sure you'd be pretty hard-pressed to find find many punk bands who don't owe a debt to The Who.

  • @colinmorris I don't know if he's tone-deaf. As someone who can't sing on key to save my life, he sings a fair bit better than I do :P! I think it's mostly just the punk aesthetic.

  • not meant to be screamed

  • it would have been absolutely wicked if they had used bagpipes for the opening sequence.

  • Amazing

  • I need this song! Where can I download it?

  • Not very familiar with the band but I love the lead singer's gravelly voice. It pays great tribute to The Who and Roger's voice.

  • how does it pay great tribute to the original? just curious.

  • It pays tribute more towards Roger's voice than anything else. His voice is very close to what Roger sounds like now.

At least they stuck with the keyboard part

  • I'm a big fan of the Who, but this version is very great too, very powerful... Too bad they didn't use bagpipes :-( isn't there any torrent to download it?

  • I love the orginal too... but this is focking amazing!

    LET'S GO FUCKING MURPHYS!

  • nice sound. I like the song.

  • if you don't like then why the hell are you watching it. seriously. go be counter-productive somewhere else.

  • great quality. usually when someone records from the audience its all distorted and way too loud.

  • wow. this is better than i thught it would be.

i saw them live. it was an awesome concert. i loved when they played this.

  • How Mod was that! Nice job Al.

  • oooh man. This is not the last time ill say it. Why did Mike McColgan leave so soon. His voice just makes Al sound like anyone else. BORING.

  • cause Mike went to go start the Street Dogs

  • i really really hate correcting people i do, but i gotta say, he actually left to pursue his other career as a firefighter. only reason i'm sayin this is cause my great respect to all firefighters

  • KICKING ASS this is awesomeeeee I wish they'd do this at every show, or at least on St Pats weekend

  • hell yeah dude! that was badass

  • I loved this when they played it! So much energy in that place, I think I was near this too.

About Al's singing, in restrospect it was a little unsettling in some parts, but mostly he did an awesome job, especially at the end.

    Thanks for the posting, btw!!

  • Huge fan of both of these bands. It was a dream come true when I heard it.

  • Amazing, never heard AL sing this baby, its perfect.

  • Nailed it.

  • This song, and the Dropkick murphys are fucking amazing!

    I love em both!

  • Al's voice fit perfect for this song! Amazing

  • no not at all. dont get me wrond i love the dropkick murphys but his voice is a bit too raspy and angry to do this song

  • its better, it doesnt sound like the who, thats how a cover should be!

  • nearly as good as the former high numbers, blue man group spoiled by dire vocals

  • i love the dropkicks but i dont think this a song that matches the other stuff they have done. Murphys 4EVER

  • *sigh* its not the point though, they are covering a real classic, and they did a freakin fuckin awesome job. You're probably way too young to even know who The Who are, so I would expect that out of you. DKM covers "Fortunate Son" by CCR too and thats not Irish Punk. The Murphys are a talented group and they, like all good musicians, step outside the box every now and then...thank god.

  • They got older and changed. End of story. They are an amazing band.

  • im not liking the vocals too much but the other parts were excellent

  • Nobody can match the original, but I like this. Favorite cover is still Blue Man Group's though

  • your right, The Who had a way of making things the way they wanted. I love The Who, blue man and The Dropkick Murphys

  • I'll always prefer the Who's version, but I love this version as well.

  • does anyway know where this was performed. i saw them at toads place in new haven, ct a couple years ago and they played this, sounds just like this.

  • well nvm read the description

  • that was incredible sound quality...

  • That singer blows.

  • You blow.

  • I know :(

  • Fuck you, Al Barr is a pioneer of the American Oi/hardcore scene. Although i dont like what dropkick has become, i respect where Al has been a musician.

    Oi Oi Oi!

    Boots n braces for generations

  • I know they put this on their vinyl version of the limited edition of The Meanest of Times, but does anyone know where I can download this song?

  • lwprop limewire

  • Ive been searching like hell and cant find it?

  • really shaky but some of the best sound coverage ive ever heard

  • a bit of a rabble to say the least?

  • This is amazing!!!!!

  • I really really didn't enjoy it when the singer(omg I don't know his name because I'm a casual DKM fan) continued the cookie monster vocals into the slow parts. He screwed up in an area or two and sang in a more natural tone and I really enjoyed it. He should have switched it up. Could have been great but it's still pretty good.

  • His name's Al Barr.

  • he needs to stick to what his good at!

he could have sang this so much better! they're version of the green fields of France is amazing!

  • Al can change his voice to whatever he wants...that's why he is such a great singer.

  • That guitar sounds so nice in this song when played heavy! KUDOS!

  • this song just fits dkm so well

  • I've seen DKM play this a few times and the Who play it once..the DKM version is pretty fuckin' good in my mind

  • Yerp, DKM's version is pretty good, but you just can't beat The Who's original.

  • I swear you have to hear this live, it will completely change your mind!

  • They Butchered It!!! God Save The Kings...

  • seriously...dropkick murphys rocks, but dont even try to go there...

  • Amen, dropkick stick to what you are good at!

  • seen the dropkicks do this and the who do it and this is as good

  • I like Dropkick Murphys too, but you can't be serious.

  • @spud194

    ahahahaahahaha

  • this is a great cover. i <3 the dropkick murphys!

  • I think its a good cover, nice quality too. Its going to be on the Limited Edition of the Meanest of Times if im not mistaken. Shame i already bought the album...

  • I dint expect a good cover, i'll be honest. I'm writing this after a 15 hr bar crawl with my university friends, and this band have brung it across perfectly. God loves the Murphy's!! Tom x

  • I never expected it to be this good. Al Barr really hits those high notes and I'm lovin it

  • theyre a good band. I like their song about the Red Sox

  • fuck off... fuckin cock sucker

    they are the best band

  • the who version is great...... but this one is excellent too, i love dropkick murphys, and i thought it would be good, but i didn't expect it too be this good, fucking amazing!

  • hmmm.... Pretty good cover. The Who's version is better though.

  • When I first read that Dropkick Murphys covered the song, I admit I was skeptical.

But they pulled it off pretty good..

  • Amazing Cover.

  • I liked this cover. It was pretty good really

  • AMAZING!

    DKM for life

  • DKM FUCKIN RULES!!!

  • Hm.. hate to talk badly about my precious DKM, but WHAT THE HELL! choose a song that fits you. Don't destroy the song that almost defines The who. Dude..

  • These guys butchered it. Nasty

  • fuck you

  • Ditto.

  • i concur with mr. human, this is a lazy way of pumping up a mixed crowd, since DKM's are playing to a lot of barhopping yuppie idiots in a lot of the pubs they play, especially here on Long Island

  • The cover of 'The Kids are Alright' is better, but then again so is the song!

  • doctordietz could not have said it any better it is called a classic. but let me point out that not all classics are good some are terrible. this is actually not bad.

  • This is great stuff. DKM rules.

  • if i they played this at a show i'd instantly leave. what the hell is this shit.

  • Called a classic...

  • Called a great band covering a great song. Fuck you bastard

  • also I do like them, so its not like I am biased, but his voice doesnt go well with the original

  • damn I was looking for a good cover....the who shit all over this
