Why doesn't Mad TV release these parodies as audio on Itunes? I know the show is over, but many parodies are youtube hits. Many youtube stars release their songs onto itunes. They could make money. I know you can buy the show on Itunes though.
This video is not so much a parody of Jewel an her song, but it is also a parody of the music business, just like the song it parody. Just listen to what Mo Collins says "The Music Business is Prostitution"
She got people thinking and that's probably all she wanted in the first place. The classic struggle between artist and record companies. Remember Neil Young and Dire Straights! They tried to yell you the same thing... Though you may just never get it.
Nah this neither changes nor influences how I feel about Jewel. Funny, true, sweet, charitable, and above all. Not a fake. Shes about the only real thing in music
@shamrockduck: Sorry, whether or not she intended it to be a parody, she became the parody. She became a parody of herself. She can't have it both ways-- using all the artifices of pop to sell the record and then turn around and try to maintain that she still possesses artistic cred and integrity because she's actually means to offer a critique of pop. She's actually even worse than a sell-out because sell-outs don't try to have it both ways, they just sell out. She's trying to have it both ways

yeah i just watched the originalagain and yeah i can see where she is making a point. But it is too weak...and it doesn't jive with breast imp;ants , razor commercials , or glamour magazine. i think mad tv got it right !
mbcking: what new direction? the one that's existed for ever in this industry? she can't act either ...if this is mockery i'm closing the book on it all!
shamrock and i suppose she needed to make amockery when she posed for the cover of glamour magazine. thst was not mockery , mockery/spoof is what mad tv did and Alanis morrisette did when she wrote humps. Alanis being canadian knows how to do that shit see...
Hahaha this is exactly what I thought when I saw the original video!
And for all who say how Jewel was soo profound making a statement about mainstream pop or whatever don't realize how much of an excuse that was to show some skin and sell out sex, just watch her other video from the same album!! It was prolly mainly cause of her record label made her do it, but still people, it's not that hard to see what I just said.
Dude this video is so messed up. Jewel's video was awesome, very much on par with Starship Troopers were okay we are smart enough to get the message. However, it was done in style and this is a sheer mockery of a brilliant video. It's funny but also very slapstick stupid and lame. I guess that's MAD though!
Eh, don't care much for Jewel in the first place... but this IS funny as hell no matter what, if you just watch it as it's own thing and don't play too hard on the reality of what they're makin fun of XD
Jewel's 'Intuition' is what's called 'tongue-in-cheek' humor and NOT selling out. Sadly, many people didn't get that. That doesn't mean she didn't like to dance a littlle ;) and dress sexy.
she did this song to say to new comers in the business to be your self and not sell out she was making fun of the industry if u watch her live performances she is acting sarcastic
she did sell out, it wasnt just her lyrics, her video was completely disgusting, if she is such a strong woman was it really necessary for her to slutty herself up in the video also? and have other women degrade themselves while shaking their butts at the camera in her intuition video?
Its probably a little of both. Her managers must play with her sound but I think Jewel sends messages in her songs and its just made to be heard. Her songs are filled with love
the sad thing is, few actually get the message of intuition and actually believe she sold out. Intuition was a parody(or rather, a better word for it would be "mockery") of modern pop music and the Britneys and Christinas that were dominating the charts at the time. But like rednecks not understanding that they're being made fun of by a guy who dresses like one of them and claims to be a cable guy, those pop fans readily accepted jewel and naysayers of the genre called her a sellout.
@shamrockduck This video is not so much a parody of Jewel an her song, but it is also a parody of the music business, just like the song it parody. Just listen to what Mo Collins says "The Music Business is Prostitution"
@rentcatlover Bull. Listen to the lyrics. This parody is straight up attacking Jewel. Madtv missed the point of the source material and claimed that because her album sales were waning, she was forced to shift genres. Whatever is said about the music industry itself after that is window dressing. The song even attacks her beauty, stating that her teeth need to be fixed. An ugly bitch like Mo Collins really has no room to talk.
@shamrockduck They should have listened to Stand then. That's the problem with Napster and iTunes: it's all about singles and not whole albums now. Songs like Empire State of Mind weren't big until they were released as a single. People have to be beaten over the head like a zen monk with marketing and singles to get it.
@Ingodspantswetrust Then you're an idiot. If you're given a forum in which to speak your mind, where millions of people will hear it....for example, an album... Use it. Say something that's important. For every idiot that doesn't get it, like for example you, there are a hundred people who listened. That is a beautiful thing.
@shamrockduck IKR? But this is still funny! Britney Spears' Mom is the director in this parody. It's freaking holarious. The original video was funny in it's own!
Great... a parody within a parody... oh sh-- INCEPTION!!
