sti wins no matter what in sound. that deep growl the car makes you can't copy. i loved my old evo 9 mr & cant wait to pick up my 06 sti in 2 weeks. evo feels awesome but you can get the same quality on a car that is alot cheaper & you can give your custom touch to it. evos already come with the recaro seats & momo steering wheel no point in changing it but you can in a sti.
EVO and STi are not my cup of tea but if we see Audi, BMW, Ferrari and Lambos they invest so much money on computers which make car go faster and sharper. But STi and EVOS are more of Japanese art and technology and this is what they do BEST of the BEST in the world. I drove RS5 but it understeers and power distribution was hopless. But they say its "Quattro" and rip people off.
I'd say soob is better looking by a small margin but kills the evo in the sound category.. which are two pretty damn important aspects of a car if i'm spending upwards of 25 grand
Evos are sharper track tools standard , very expensive to service and uncomfortable on roads, scoobies better for everyday use, more reliable and better built, job done and the Evo vs Sti debate is definitely for 5 year olds , both quality cars in different respects

If I could get an Evo with the sound of the Sti's boxer rumble. I would be in heaven. I love both cars. I prefer the way the Evo's look, but subies just sound so damn incredible.
Owned Evo and Impreza. Evo was quicker and more precise but I enjoyed the extra driver input required to drive the Impreza quick. Both amazing cars, wish I could still afford to run them, 18mpg :-(
Love both cars. I own a 06 wrx and am concidering getting a evo9 for 3 reasons 1)more space in the back seat.2) evo comes with front mount ic, while my subie requries removal of the bumper beam.3) It is cost less to get big power. Subie has a more unique look though and is a better DD.
most people seem to pik evo over sti. from my owership of my05 sti and been test driven evo 9 and i also own an r34 gtr. realistically, evo and gtr might be a lil quicker and respond to mods better. but its the sti i give the most credit. that car is just so well engineered in terms of giving drivers feedbacks from the true spirit of driving. everything is mechanical on the car. the chassis gets improved n further improved without turning into computers. STi is a true driver's car.

subaru's trannys are shit compared to the evos. my friend has an 07 wrx with a couple basic mods, nothing serious and he's on his third tranny. 300k mile cars? yeah not on the same tranny though.

@Andrew500GT well i think the evo is a bit more pricey as well. i haven't driven either but i would take the evo because on the track, it does better. i don't know about straight line but both are fairly similar.
i had an evo9 and it is the best car i have ever driven. iv driven many cars all the way from fiats to lambos. and to be honest there is non i would rather drive than the evo.
The evo is is slightly faster because it's engine is smaller than the sti, making it lighter. However, the interior of the evo is not as cool as the sti and the evo's trasmission is one of the worst on the road. Subaru is the Asian BMW, there 300k mile cars. So the sti takes the cake,

@indyluder Hmmm, well first thing that pops into my mind is the interior, the EVO's interior just screams rental car...just chincy, no class, cheap. Subaru's boxer engine is extremley reliable, well balanced and bulletproof. Most people will agree that a Subaru boxer engine sounds 500x better than any inline 4 will ever sound...the STi's transmision FEELS and IS bulletproof, the mitsu tranny feels...well, shitty...there are SO MANY REASONS!!! Good luck with your decision!!
@indyluder evo is made for people who dont care for comfort or anything like that. interior sucks and the ride in sti is smoother. but if ur a car fanatic go with the evo.. overall performance drag, track wahtever evo wins.. i got an evo so that might influence my decision, so before everbody jumps on me a lot of tests and review show that evo is a better performance car and the MR trannys are shitty on evo's not the 5 speeds.. any as far as tuning and modding goes u will spend a lot on stis

the evo 9 is faster in the high rpms than the evo 10 which is suprising the 9 is also lighter the only thing the evo 10 has on the 9 is 20+ whp. That still means nothing though because the evo 9 is so much lighter its it piks up just as quick as the 10 even tho it has less whp.
actually the Evo X was a tad slower around the tracks in several shootouts.... and personally they killed the Evo heritage with the evo X looks.... it doesnt have anythin common in styling compared to EVO 1 to IX.... and EVO IX is the aggressive lookin car in the series.... EVO X looks more like a concept.. but thats just our personal opinion lol
here in new zealand we have every version ever made of the evo..from the evo 1 to the evo 10...both gsr and rs versions.. as well as the 'special models" like evo 6.5, the MR versions, and some FQ versions..and they all rather cheap to buy..

Indeed, the evo 8, however, I find to have a better quality-price ratio, even after the modding, than as stock evo X. But thats just me. That and the less classic, rounder shape of the body is a little funner in my opinion. Though I'll say that at this level, its more a driver than car difference... I had an evo for 2 weeks and took it back back beacuse it sounded like trash and drove like trash.
The STi pwns the evo in sound. STi also pwns it from a roll.
I am now a happy owner of a 05 STi

The evo is is slightly faster because it's engine is smaller than the sti, making it lighter. However, the interior of the evo is not as cool as the sti and the evo's trasmission is one of the worst on the road. Subaru is the Asian BMW, there 300k mile cars. So the sti takes the cake,

Are nuts. ASK any STI owner especially in america. they cant even drag race them the trainy drops right off bro. Evo transmissions are solid. so what are you talking about. I will never own an STI after all 3 of my friends who bought them lost there trainy and rear diffs. Its a good car but just falls short of the Evo 9.

First off You dont know ME. at all. And Yes i do own an evo and buying another one next month so your point. and you don't have to be rich to buy an STI but it doesnt matter the point is the STI DOES have tranny problems period. They are both great cars. You can burn a clutch in any car if u cant drive. The stock clutch in the evo is good for 350 to the wheels. at which point in any All wheel drive car u should be getting a new clutch around that time. Nobodys fanboy.

Plus i did'nt tell you this before but the evo was the us version,which if you know as much as you say you do,Sucks ass. And i happened to find a sti on a lot near my house. it's a 2005 and the payments were only 500 bucks a month. So Why Not? Plus that evo sounded as if the previous owner had gunned the shit outt it.

@popomonstor Were in a recession here in the UK and europe so I would never dream of just getting a car like an evo on a whim with out checking it out first or at least getting someone competant to have a look around, glad to see you havent been affected in the US by the economic downturn. I wonder why they restrict the evo for the US market when we get full power versions like the FQ's in europe? Then again communicating with you has answered that question for me. LOL!!!

Here in north carolina we did suffer a recession about 3 months ago. i know what you're going through right now, and it sucks i know could'nt even afford my fave pack of ciggs..But i got 3 jobs. And i work my ass off for my cash. My friend had one i don't know much about evo's but i think it was a fq 400, if that sounds right. I used to be an evo guy and i still am some-what. IMO listen IMO the Sti is ten times the car.

I agree... How many STIs run 8's, 9's, 10's heck even 11's? 11s is common for a stock turbo Evo and few STIs touch that. They can be quick, like big Al's and a few other but not many are...

@indyluder Hmmm, well first thing that pops into my mind is the interior, the EVO's interior just screams rental car...just chincy, no class, cheap. Subaru's boxer engine is extremley reliable, well balanced and bulletproof. Most people will agree that a Subaru boxer engine sounds 500x better than any inline 4 will ever sound...the STi's transmision FEELS and IS bulletproof, the mitsu tranny feels...well, shitty...there are SO MANY REASONS!!! Good luck with your decision!!

@indyluder evo is made for people who dont care for comfort or anything like that. interior sucks and the ride in sti is smoother. but if ur a car fanatic go with the evo.. overall performance drag, track wahtever evo wins.. i got an evo so that might influence my decision, so before everbody jumps on me a lot of tests and review show that evo is a better performance car and the MR trannys are shitty on evo's not the 5 speeds.. any as far as tuning and modding goes u will spend a lot on stis

the evo 9 is faster in the high rpms than the evo 10 which is suprising the 9 is also lighter the only thing the evo 10 has on the 9 is 20+ whp. That still means nothing though because the evo 9 is so much lighter its it piks up just as quick as the 10 even tho it has less whp.

actually the Evo X was a tad slower around the tracks in several shootouts.... and personally they killed the Evo heritage with the evo X looks.... it doesnt have anythin common in styling compared to EVO 1 to IX.... and EVO IX is the aggressive lookin car in the series.... EVO X looks more like a concept.. but thats just our personal opinion lol

Indeed, the evo 8, however, I find to have a better quality-price ratio, even after the modding, than as stock evo X. But thats just me. That and the less classic, rounder shape of the body is a little funner in my opinion. Though I'll say that at this level, its more a driver than car difference... So really, it's whatever floats your personnal boat.
