Ofcourse Kurt and the others thought that was lame, so they played very on their instruments in a very robotic manner, while Kurt was singing like this as a protest

@tempoo45 I think you misunderstood what axelm55 meant, Iron Maiden and Muse did a similar thing to what Nirvana are doing here, they were asked by the tv show to mime so they took the piss out of it. He didnt mean they deliberately do playback regularly. When Muse did it, they all swapped roles so that Matt was 'playing' the drums, Chris was on vocals/guitar and Dom on bass. That was a complete pisstake. If you actually saw them live you wouldn't be saying 'the suck' (I think you meant 'they')
