I use hockey tape on everything slippery because it clings to my hand like the Bud Light commercial. Cleans up really easily with wd40 and soapy water when you remove and re wrap it.
the best way i have found is 550 parachute cord. which im not sure how available it is to you, but you can get it at military surplus places, but take and wrap the handle like you would do to whip the end of a rope, it works really well. and it adds a layer of shock absorbency
@AnimalMotha well i was speaking for the one i have experience with, sorry for not clearing that up, but for the cold steel kukri, it improves the grip, ALOT better, and like i said acts as a shock absorber
I've used bicycle innertubes to cover polymer...let it heat up in the sun then stretch it over and trim to fit....also absorbs impact shock. Tightly wrapped 550 parachute cord works as well and is inexpensive.
Bicycle inner tube works fine also for retention, cut a 4"-6" and pressure slip in. Could cause blisters with extended heavy use if you grab too firm.
I stretched a piece of wet leather around my handle and ran a baseball stich down the finger side of the handle. I am currently working on a friends. I will try to post a vid soon.
The leather i used was approx 3mm. cut a piece that is too big, it is easier to work with. let the leather soak in water for several minutes. I then work it on to the handle, clamp it in place and let it dry overnight. then trim and stitch. I will try to do the other one this weekend and post a vid.
They would be really ok if I had the heart to use glue to fasten them for good. Otherwise especially the thin leather tends to gets pushed down on the regular handles.

I have more 550 than I know what to do with, but on the CS machetes, it is really too thick of a wrapping.
Maybe if I gutted the cord, but even though I have more than 90 ft in different colors, I'm still stingy *g*

Ah, well on the kukri you would be correct. The handles on that and on the Latin are a lot thinner than say the Panga, Heavy or Bolo.

Do your machetes tend to end a bit after some use?

Did you use thick leather, 2,5mm+ or rather thin one for that?
Cause I can't get the thick leather to mold to the handle-shape properly and the thin stuff is often to stretchy.

You can try going to a sports shop and buy
rubber grips used on tennis rackets.
works well for me and affordable.

Every time you shop at Wal Mart, you're selling America out.
Go to a local sports store instead.

I heard from a friends who plays hockey here in Germany that it's really expensive here. Like 20€ for a roll.
