Hey yesterday I was playing for around 2 1/2 hours and on my right hand that I pluck the strings with I got two huge blisters. on my middle finger i got a normal blister filled with puss. on my first finger I got a blood blister witch apparently will never go is there Any technique of playing that will stop me getting blisters btw my fingers have already become hard from playing this isn't from first time playing thanks :)
@MarloweDK@xNoPiTyFoRaCoWaRDx1 i use surgical spirit. it is used by surgons (surprisingly!) to harden skin without drying it out. its quite cheap and lasts for ages. just dab a little on your finger tips and wait for it to evapourate. you can get it from chemists. i also swipe a soldering iron across the finger tips, this makes the skin very hard but it can reduce sensativity. playing for a little every day rather than for 5 hours once a week also helps
Nice lesson Marlow, I am taking Guitar lessons, but I am really a bass player.I have been playing for 40 years and I wanted some of the out front action of a lead guitarist. I still use your lessons for both instruments. I picked up one of those 51 Fender Precision re-issues and an Epiphone Allen Woody semi-hollow body bass.I wanted something that would play like a Hofner without going broke.
Very interesting. I am used to improvise to the scales from top to bottom. Bottom to top seems like a very nice sound though. Any chance you could explain modes ?
think of a cadence like a 2 5 1, where you'd play a minor 7th, dominant 7th, and major 7th. If you played a regular major scale over the minor 7th, the 3rd and 7th would interfere, so you flat the two. This is called the dorian mode, where the 3rd and 7th degrees of a scale are flattened. In the dominant chord, only the 7th would be flatted. This is called a myxolidian. In the major 7th all the degrees agree, and this is called an ionian mode. (there's more modes out there, these are just 3
MarloeDK, this is one of the most useful exercises you have ever posted. It is applicable to all scales. When practicing scales too often students simply play them up and down. You are working through the scale by playing 4 notes, shifting one degree and playing 4 notes etc. I find it useful doing it in 2,3,4,5 etc note patterns. I learned this from Jaco's "Modern Electric Bass" video. Learning this way helps one to improvise melodically.
Look at my other post for an explanation of why this is better than simply playing up and down. In real life if you simply play up and down it gets boring in a hurry. For proper ear training for improvisation you must vary your patterns or all you'll ever do is play up and down. The difference between minor and major is the intervals between notes. Do a Google search for more info.
oh okay thx.. and yeah you are right with that it gets boring pretty fast but i mean this is and exercise video and some people want to learn the basics of scale playing before they can jam around with them
i love you marlowedk!

i just learned those 5 scales yesterday and they are pretty simple once you get the hang of it..
but why do you play around with the scales insted of playing them ass they are, from low to high and high to low.
also whats the difference between a minor pentatonic and major pentatonic?

If you want to learn just the notes do a Google search but once you have the basic scale down (which shouldn't take long) follow MarloweDK's example.

as i pointed out on my first comment i got the 5 minor scales down. and no they where easy to learn.
but they are great exercise to learn. ill practice em everry day in different ways :P
