Was that some negativity that I sensed coming from Dave with, "no he's certainly not a guest" around the 1:27 mark. ? Maybe me just being paranoid, but from Anthony's Scar Tissue that I'm reading right now, it seems that Dave and Flea weren't total bffs.
i have to throw this out there but bands dont have their high point and then become bad after that. they dont have a "time and place"..the fans do. i am a muscian and music i make is music but whether you like some of it or not is your fault and your opinion not mine. all of their music is equal to them.
Not to throw fuel onto the fire, but I think the Chili's should have called it quits after Californication. That album would have been an amazing swan song and their legacy would be untouchable.
The last two albums they released weren't Chili Peppers IMO. Sure, bands go through style changes and evolve. But, they lost their identity and I just didn't "feel" they were themselves. To be honest, they're starting to become parodies of themselves. Bands have their time and place.
Is it just me or Dave was kinda trying to water down Flea and his accomplishments and Eric just aggrandized the hell out of Flea to show Dave was full of shit?
FUCK 'EM, JUST TO SEE THE LOOK ON THEIR FACE, FUCKEMJUSTTOSEETHELOOKONTHEIRFACE!!! ahahahaha
Dave Navarrro is actually a wise and nice soul. AK himself would agree with this. Sure he may be cocky at times but it's a big part of what gives him his confidence to write music and put it out there. One Hot Minute is a classic album and is every bit as unique and powerful as BSSM. If Dave had the chance to make a second album(just like BSSM was John's second) with the Chilis it would have been one of the top ten records of all time
Who gave this fucking loser a talk show? He failed at super hero rock band tv show, he failed on one hot minute and now he is failing here. LEAVE HOLLYWOOD and get your fucking eye brows chopped down.
Wow. Do I detect a chip on DN's shoulder? Can't take anything away from him. For Jane's he's a genius. For the Peppers, he just wasn't quite a fit. Love Minute, though.
@Cheamilion Are you sure? John left because of the fame, he was what they needed, he fitted perfectly. But he lost his enthusiasm and left. At the time when Dave came in Anthony wasn't drugged up at all, and he either relied on rehab or himself to sober up.

there isn't really anything wrong with dave. i just and this could just be me that there a better rhcp when they have john both r great in there own way though
you know, i really like jane's addiction, as far as dave goes, that's really his element, and you're right about me and my masturbation addiction. i love frusciante man, but i don't hate dave, he just makes the red hot chili peppers the red hot peppers, in my opinion
@777jackpot1 Dave's a damn good guitarist... hes awesome. but he can't compare to john. I am obsessed with john bu i agree if you hate on dave your a masturbation addict
Dave is an incredibly influential musician (as much or more so than John Frusciante, whom I really dig also) and a cool, smart, witty guy, so what the hell problem does anyone have with him?
P.S. Avery has got me curious about when that Flea solo album is coming out.
@MissingStrings Why should I be glad? John was on more albums than SA. How can you compare SA to MM, BSSM or OHM? SA is a crappy 00s pop album. Anyways im not gonna get into this arguement again.
@MissingStrings Yeah totally agree man. I dont like the new John. I prefer the younger junkie funky john. More my style. Seems selfish I know but thats my taste. John is more into classical shit now which is cool but not chili peppers - probably why he left.
@joronamo888 He's always been doing the stuff he is now, the only difference between his solo stuff in the beginning and his solo stuff now is the production and more coherent messages.
@MissingStrings i think my take on all this one hot minute and dave navarro bandwagon hate is everyone thinks it sucks because john was out of the band and the chili peppers still made a successful album without him. Listen to walkabout, deep kick and aeroplane how do you not like those guitar riffs and/or solos. You must be out of your fucking mind if your'e a peppers fan and think it sucks
One Hot Minute Is the most different thing the chilis ever did! Because of Daves presence it became as if Janes addiction and the chilis came together to form VOLTRON! A brilliant album but im glad they only did 1 together! In my Top 3 chilis albums though!

Navarro sucked balls as far as playing with RHCP ... no chemistry with the band ... Thats why John Frusciante is the Shit!!
One of the BEST chilis albums is one hot minute, lot cooler, darker vibe thanks to Dave Navarro, plus then some Navarro-penned ideas went through to Californication, he has a lot cooler vibe than Frusciante. So what went on between him and Flea? Sounds like they're on bad terms? I think as a person Dave's probably a complete cock though, mind you, he has a tonne of issues obviously.
He didnt join Janes 14 years ago, try 24. He was only 19 on the first album. And GlueyPorch, JA is FARRR from washed up. When was the last time you saw them live? i saw them last month, best show ive ever seen. Sounded nearly identical to the studio work, with as much energy as they had in 87
this vid is so lame and commercialized. It smacks of corporate swine. what are these guys doing buying into this B.S. Is Dave that hard up for cash. Why doesn't he just rock out?
wow Jane's Addiction and And RHCP's artist go back back forth btwn each other more than dance partners...it must have been awkward to be interviewed by ur ex-fellow band member..lmao
Eric Aevery was a awsome bass player. He made Janes Addiction songs better. Flea did ok as a fill in, but i never like that guy they hired to play bass after that . I forgot his name, he really sucked.
Ok, I think that Eric is a good bassist and a cool dude with his own music, but to say that Chris Chaney sucks at bass shows that you need to be slapped. Honestly, I can only assume your not a bassist.
One hot Minute is underrated, it was a deep, dark album, very different from most Peppers stuff (which is a littel more light hearted).....a lot of it had to o with Keidis' mind set and Dave's too....
i agree. i actually enjoy that album quite a bit. there are som real gems on there. my friends, aeroplane, coffee shop, warped, walk about, falling into grace, etc...really great stuff.
dude, i completely agree. one hot minute is sooo underrated, i hate when people talk shit on it just because it was different than blood sugar sex magic and mothers milk. the songs are so solid on it, and flow so well
...of course im high...thats beside the point. fleas stuff with Janes was sorta lame and he knew it. just like daves stuff with the chillies was sorta lame.
thats my whole point dude, flea didnt write any music for janes addiction.lol he was just a stand in so i dont get what your talking about. all he did was play eric's basslines. dave wrote music with the chillies. flea only toured with janes addiction. as you know, janes have three studio albums nothings shocking, ritual, and strays. flea doesn't play on any of those albums.
i dont pretend to know who wrote the bass lines on kettle wistle, but they were mos def different from Erics typical bass lines. since Flea was playin em, i assumed he wrote em. its only a few tracks....i dont recall the names of them off the top of my head....did Eric play on strays?
...sort of lame for them to get flea to play bass for em n then have someone else write his bass lines......as i said, i love flea, and i had high hopes when i heard he was playin with Janes, but for whatever reason, i felt let down....sall im sayin. i could say the same for navaro in the chillies....
well yeah i was upset with navarro moreso for the way he played johns parts than for the material he wrote. i actually like one hot minute alot. idk man, flea was only a backup member for janes addiction you really cant even say he was ever a member. just a touring replacement.
...i liked one hot minute, but i didnt love it the way i love mothers milk or mofo party plan or nothings shocking.... dave made the band sound so different to me...still better than many bands, but not as good as janes or the chillies have sounded in the past.
well heres what happened, flea played bass in concert for janes from 97 to 2001 then he left to be steady with RHCP, then janes got chris chaney in 2002 who wrote the bass parts for strays. flea only played avery's parts, never chaney's because he had left the band before chaney joined.
that can't be true because John Frusciante rejoined the chili peppers at that time and they record Californication. So i would say Flea played well before 97.
no, flea was playing bass for janes and the chilis at the same time in the late ninties and very early 2000's. janes addiction broke up in 91 and didn't reunite until 97 dude.
oh you know what man, flea did write two basslines for the kettle whistle ep but just those two to me aren't enough to compare to eric avery's whole catelogue. i wouldn't call them lackluster.
...whatever bro. i was just saying that i expected JA with Flea to be something amazing and fun and found it to be something id heard enough of after kettle whistle i was hoping to want a whole album of Flea with Janes, and i didnt. it really didnt do anything for me. what were the 2 tracks? im pretty sure Flea played the horn in "my cats name is Maceo", which i personaly loved, and im thinkin he may have played on "slow divers", but i honestly have no idea. im not slamming Flea at all.
He played on the song kettle whistle as well. Which is a pretty good song. Bottom line is that Jane's are washed up these days and they've totally lost touch with what made them good.
You don't know who Eric Avery is? One of the best bass players ever and he's Jane's Addictions original bass player. He also played with Alanis Morrisette. He rules.
Sort of. Keidis believed the album sounded too depressing, but there was more to it than that.
According to the story I heard, Navarro didn't approach RCHP very professionally. The story I heard puts Navarro at band practice high on all kinds of things, he tripped over his own amp, and the other members had had enough.
His style of playing, yes, but mainly it was his method of working. Navarro's used to working by composing bits and pieces of a song separate from the band and then piecing it together at practice. RHCP always begin by jamming together, without a destination in sight necessarily.
thats only in their newer stuff. uplift mofo party plan mothers milk and parts of blood sugar had lots of heavy stuff on it. as khanflesh mentioned it was their method of working, not style that didn't blend :)
I like the way Dave pretends he knows Eric just as a musician from a band in America, not as his former band mate. Of course the hairy gimp would be implying that Flea is a bit of an idiot with the studio building thing, probably because he couldn't last with the Peppers.
Dude, what do u have against Dave? He's just having casual talk with his friend and band mate (Jane's Addiction reunited in case you didn't know). Dave and Flea are good friends so there is no reason why he would say something bad about him. Plus, Dave is awesome at the guitar and I think One Hot Minute was awesome.
To me, it sounds always strange and fun at the time when I hear Dave and Eric talking about Flea, and the Chili Peppers in general... I mean, Dave did a really great job during One Hot Minute period, but the way that their collaboration ended up and Jane's has been reunited makes me think that nothing is really solved between them. But anyway, great bands, great artists ! :)

One Hot Minute was amazing and beautiful. Dark, heavy, depressing, but beautiful. It was different, but it still felt like listening to the Chili's.
If people wanna talk shit on it, so be it. If anything, Flea was more responsible for One Hot Minute than Dave.

this vid is so lame and commercialized. It smacks of corporate swine. what are these guys doing buying into this B.S. Is Dave that hard up for cash. Why doesn't he just rock out?

dave navarro? WTF?
rhcpbassmaniac 2 years ago 5
Does Dave Navarro ever age?
Is he floating in a capsule where time stands still?
Fuck. He looks the same as when he joined the peppers (14 years before this)

i want to hear flea's new stuff....NOW!!!!!!!
unamericano 2 years ago
Eric Aevery was a awsome bass player. He made Janes Addiction songs better. Flea did ok as a fill in, but i never like that guy they hired to play bass after that . I forgot his name, he really sucked.
flubno 2 years ago
Ok, I think that Eric is a good bassist and a cool dude with his own music, but to say that Chris Chaney sucks at bass shows that you need to be slapped. Honestly, I can only assume your not a bassist.

One hot Minute is underrated, it was a deep, dark album, very different from most Peppers stuff (which is a littel more light hearted).....a lot of it had to o with Keidis' mind set and Dave's too....
rook0469 2 years ago 5
i agree. i actually enjoy that album quite a bit. there are som real gems on there. my friends, aeroplane, coffee shop, warped, walk about, falling into grace, etc...really great stuff.
codebabe 2 years ago
i love walkabout thats prolly one of the best funk chili tunes
GooseRHCP321 2 years ago
i thought, one hot minute was w worst rhcp album, untill they made californication.
grzesiukwck 2 years ago
you didn't like californication? wow. Youre the first I've ever heard say that since the album's release ten years ago.
codebabe 2 years ago 2
dude, i completely agree. one hot minute is sooo underrated, i hate when people talk shit on it just because it was different than blood sugar sex magic and mothers milk. the songs are so solid on it, and flow so well

How did Eric A. become a normal mature adult? That was not the guy I remember?
........cool.

the host is dave navarro, right?

i was hopin they would talk about Fleas time in Janes Addiction....i love Flea, but found his stuff sort of lackluster compared to Erics.
Deddboy 2 years ago
Flea lackluster compared to Eric Avery???
I hope I'm not being to harsh here but are you friggin high?lol
codebabe 2 years ago
...of course im high...thats beside the point. fleas stuff with Janes was sorta lame and he knew it. just like daves stuff with the chillies was sorta lame.
Deddboy 2 years ago
thats my whole point dude, flea didnt write any music for janes addiction.lol he was just a stand in so i dont get what your talking about. all he did was play eric's basslines. dave wrote music with the chillies. flea only toured with janes addiction. as you know, janes have three studio albums nothings shocking, ritual, and strays. flea doesn't play on any of those albums.
codebabe 2 years ago
i dont pretend to know who wrote the bass lines on kettle wistle, but they were mos def different from Erics typical bass lines. since Flea was playin em, i assumed he wrote em. its only a few tracks....i dont recall the names of them off the top of my head....did Eric play on strays?
Deddboy 2 years ago
those were written by chris chaney i believe.
codebabe 2 years ago
...well, that would explain why they didnt do JA or flea justice then....
Deddboy 2 years ago
correct :)
codebabe 2 years ago
...sort of lame for them to get flea to play bass for em n then have someone else write his bass lines......as i said, i love flea, and i had high hopes when i heard he was playin with Janes, but for whatever reason, i felt let down....sall im sayin. i could say the same for navaro in the chillies....
Deddboy 2 years ago
well yeah i was upset with navarro moreso for the way he played johns parts than for the material he wrote. i actually like one hot minute alot. idk man, flea was only a backup member for janes addiction you really cant even say he was ever a member. just a touring replacement.
codebabe 2 years ago
...i liked one hot minute, but i didnt love it the way i love mothers milk or mofo party plan or nothings shocking.... dave made the band sound so different to me...still better than many bands, but not as good as janes or the chillies have sounded in the past.
Deddboy 2 years ago
agreed.
codebabe 2 years ago
well heres what happened, flea played bass in concert for janes from 97 to 2001 then he left to be steady with RHCP, then janes got chris chaney in 2002 who wrote the bass parts for strays. flea only played avery's parts, never chaney's because he had left the band before chaney joined.
codebabe 2 years ago
that can't be true because John Frusciante rejoined the chili peppers at that time and they record Californication. So i would say Flea played well before 97.
grt05 2 years ago
no, flea was playing bass for janes and the chilis at the same time in the late ninties and very early 2000's. janes addiction broke up in 91 and didn't reunite until 97 dude.
codebabe 2 years ago
oh you know what man, flea did write two basslines for the kettle whistle ep but just those two to me aren't enough to compare to eric avery's whole catelogue. i wouldn't call them lackluster.
codebabe 2 years ago
...whatever bro. i was just saying that i expected JA with Flea to be something amazing and fun and found it to be something id heard enough of after kettle whistle i was hoping to want a whole album of Flea with Janes, and i didnt. it really didnt do anything for me. what were the 2 tracks? im pretty sure Flea played the horn in "my cats name is Maceo", which i personaly loved, and im thinkin he may have played on "slow divers", but i honestly have no idea. im not slamming Flea at all.
Deddboy 2 years ago 3
i dont remember what the songs were.
codebabe 2 years ago
He played on the song kettle whistle as well. Which is a pretty good song. Bottom line is that Jane's are washed up these days and they've totally lost touch with what made them good.

sheptropremix 2 years ago
You don't know who Eric Avery is? One of the best bass players ever and he's Jane's Addictions original bass player. He also played with Alanis Morrisette. He rules.

why is Dave hiding behind a desk? looks pretty silly.

why is that dave navarro live the band of rhcp??
fullfillemt0892 3 years ago
None of them thought the album really worked very well. I have to agree actually.
They decided to part ways
Xiolablu3 3 years ago
Sort of. Keidis believed the album sounded too depressing, but there was more to it than that.
According to the story I heard, Navarro didn't approach RCHP very professionally. The story I heard puts Navarro at band practice high on all kinds of things, he tripped over his own amp, and the other members had had enough.
That's just what I remember hearing.
Hito12 2 years ago
I heard it was because his style didn't really fit with RHCP. Dave's got an odd mix of metal and funk, while RHCP's usually funk and lighter rock.
ChainsawSerpent 2 years ago
His style of playing, yes, but mainly it was his method of working. Navarro's used to working by composing bits and pieces of a song separate from the band and then piecing it together at practice. RHCP always begin by jamming together, without a destination in sight necessarily.
khanflesh 2 years ago 2
thats only in their newer stuff. uplift mofo party plan mothers milk and parts of blood sugar had lots of heavy stuff on it. as khanflesh mentioned it was their method of working, not style that didn't blend :)
codebabe 2 years ago
i would really like to hear Flea's own music. anyone knows somethng about this?

Eric is fucking awesome!!
prancegoatprance 3 years ago 3
I like the way Dave pretends he knows Eric just as a musician from a band in America, not as his former band mate. Of course the hairy gimp would be implying that Flea is a bit of an idiot with the studio building thing, probably because he couldn't last with the Peppers.
maddermofo 3 years ago

PierreRHCPfan06 3 years ago
Eric's bass lines in Jane's are amazing. Summertime Rolls, Mountain Song and Three Days are just the best.
lilqrczak 3 years ago 3
Good call on that one.. Especially Summertime Rolls. A lot of people overlook that one when they mention Jane's.
