ohh what a pleasure to see cats enjoying and listening to each other that was soo tight it was sexy,,,,drummer & Lonnie damn the guitar cat took some tasty licks too..
I agree he is an amazing musician, but shame on you for referring to him as "an old guy"! He can out play any 20 year old!!! I do agree...Long live Dr. Lonnie Smith!!!!
I meant no insult to anyone. It is wonderful how music keeps a person young and I believe that a musician should keep playing as long as they are able...if they can still play at 90 years old or 100 years old they should, they must...it keeps a person young!!!! You keep on playing!!! Great musicians like Dr. Smith only get better with age like fine wine!
It's on 132nd in between Douglass and Powell (7th & 8th Aves). The best night is Sundays for Seleno Clark's jam session, it's been going on for over 10 years!
where is this place????? someone said it's located on 132nd. but what is the cross street?? is the organ part of the jazz club?? I'd love to go by there....
I have seen Dr. Lonnie Smith live many times in New York, and have even stood next to him on the subway (the #3 train). He is
fascinating to watch - it's almost like when he plays he goes into a transcendanal mode. He is the one of the few of the"ol' skool" greats that are still around. I caught him and Lou Donaldson at the Village Vanguard about five years ago. Fkn amazing!! This is music, as "A Tribe Called Quest" would say - that'll "make you rub your feet on the rhythm rug".
Are you the guy whose comments I read on Amazon - a B-3 player? Cuz if you know who Seleno is, you're the real deal. The organ Trio at Lenox Lounge on Wednesdays (Nate Lucas) is also extremely cool.
I've written loads of review on Amazon... Seleno, as far as I'm concerned is the patron saint of all Jazz organists... The baddest organist in Harlem, and a true mentor for all younger players... He gave me one of my first lessons on playing the blues... There are players who are technically way better than him, however, I can't think of any who match his energy and authenticity... and for the record he IS paying me to say this...
Thats a hella solid groove ^^

If Lonnie would ever need a doctor he should phone this drummer again.
Wow , this is some pure shit.
Wasn't Lonnie born also in Harlem?

We have had Paige Cavenough 88 and his trio and Paul Smith 89 play for our keyboard club. That is old!
