  • this girls debate skills are lacking. even if i agreed with the death penalty i would still think she made terrible arguments.

she states that there are terrible people in the world, therefore they must die. that ignores every other consideration. life in prison is just as effective in stopping them from hurting people and if it is not then we make it so, now her argument is gone.

  • The Death Penalty does NOT save lives, in fact it COSTS lives. Hundreds of millions of dollars are used in pursuing cases that so often are either commuted or person is exonerated as they are innocent. These funds can be used to CATCH more killers & actually PREVENT more murders & keep crims off the streets, instead of useless arbitrary vengeance for a handful. New Jersey spent 100 million on the DP, since it abolished it & used funds for fighting crime, murder rate has gone down each year.

  • Hmmm.. (see side comments) apparently the "yays" were "yahoos!" So sorry. The death penalty is PROPER, and should be KEPT intact! Write to your elected authorities and SUPPORT them in standing strong in KEEPING the death penalty! (if you're a good citizen and care about the protection of human life!) In doing this, the state is being "God's servant for good" in this world! Let's return to common sense! SUPPORT THE DEATH PENALTY. Thanks

  • I don't know what atheist has to do with wanting the fucking death penalty, but i won't try to drag you out of that delusion as well, so have at it.

Nice poetry, Plato. And, yet again, the vivid images of murder and death used to appeal to emotion when it comes to the death penalty. Any argument that uses emotion to try and scrounge it's way to the top of the moral hill should immediately be disqualified.

I KNOW there are people who want to kill me... And that's what we have prisons for

  • Great points, Thx for the reply!

So lemme ask you something, if the death penalty were completely abolished.... what about all the resources we seem to waist just to keep them alive in a cell for the rest of there lives?? it seems as though we could allocate that a lot more efficiently if they, well weren't there. This may be beside the point, but if you were locked up in a cell for the rest of your life, w/o parole. Would you want to live a mere existence?

  • You keep prison population down by de-criminalizing benign subsistence like pot.

And whether or not the prisoner wants to exist in the life they live should be up to them. If they want to kill themselves, let them do it, but don't legislate mandatory deaths for any magnitude of crime, unless arresting them was not an option, like a dictator or an armed lunatic.

  • ur right, emotion shouldnt have nethin to do widit.

  • The guilty had a choice in what they did, the victim did not. To let them live life is pure insanity, and is like pissing on they graves of the innocent. NEVER underestimate how precious life is, and DON'T rationalize with there being an after life where you will be judged. Bc that is the most commonly mistaken paradigm that is taken into consideration by many, and has NOT been proven my ANY means.

  • What about the families who even after someone kills their loved ones STILL disagree with the death penalty?

The death penalty isn't a preventative measure, it's designed to fulfill a primitive vengeance complex, and the fact that you want is to adhere to that, shows me just what kind of a fucking ape you are.

  • Now heyheyhey..... The fact that I want murdering to stop should make it pretty apparent that I'm not a fucking ape okay? its the means in which we handle this human dilemma, we differ.

  • and about the whole "what if they are innocent" or "what if the jury is bias"

That is a great argument, but this isnt 10 years ago. Now a-days computer scanners can look into peoples brains and detect any sort of emotion whether it be love, hate, or lye. Not to mention those computers are NOT bias, and is based on science - not how "good the lawyer is"

  • Thank you, professor, seeing as you yourself are a forensics expert, i know you're not just blowing out bullshit.

No, you diddy, we don't ALWAYS get the whole story and all the evidence. The technological utopia you live it, i'm sorry to say, doesn't exist.

  • smart ass.

  • That bitch is NOT a good speaker. she Sux. that really pisses me off, that she went for that. Murder is a disgusting thing. Ne1 who commits it should die. No, that doesnt mean getting a mere lethal injection that puts you to sleep. The murderer should b put down in the same manner they did on to the victim. excluding rape, of course thats an exception. this would do a lot more than justice, but also send an example to any1 who dares to commit this crime againts humanity.

  • Death penalty doesn NOT lower the crime rates, never has, and it never will.

Do you honestly think murderers are afraid to die?

you don't have to risk innocent lives with the death penalty, because you know and i know that cases involving the death penalty cost shit loads, on top of that, how people people escape from prison these days? You can put people away, safely, without killing them and potential innocents.

  • I kind of see your point here, yet if there is an innocent person locked up for the rest of his life, he's pretty much fucked ne way. But its the ripple effect it may have on the family that will be the cleavage point in the system correct?

  • People can be found innocent after they're locked up, one example would be a gitmo bay prisoner who was locked up for years before he was finally found innocent.

  • To. bigdogsix2:

But a higher percentage of black killers then white killers get the death penalty. Thats allso a fact, AND its institutionalized racism.

  • The conservatives alway throw some horrible story about people getting killed and used fear to convince us and the death penalty stays legalized and MORE innocents die on death row! GOD DAMNIT THE CONSERVATIVES FAIL THIS COUNTRY

  • I would like to read your opinion on my comments =+)

  • becuz you liberals believe its ok to kill people this is liberal view its ok to have an abortion and kill a innocent life but when there is a sick animal who's trying to destroy people you believe its wrong to kill them i dont understand which one is it?

  • I never said it was OK to kill fetuses, i just said you should have the choice to because it's not a human yet. I would never have an abortion if i was a woman, just like i would never smoke meth even though it should be legalized.

I'm agaisnt the death penalty because it runs the potential risk of killing innocents declared guilty.

If a cruel dictator for instance can not be arrested because of the position of his power, than it is necessary to kill them.

  • And I'm a libertarian BTW

  • It has never been proven that an innocent person with executed, it has been proven that an innocen person ond eath row had not had had enough evidence to deem him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and also say there was someone that was innocent, then innocen tpersons must've been sentenced to prison even though they were innocent. that argument is criticizing the judicial system, not the death penalty system.

  • Jesse Tafero

  • And how can anyone counter this argument that asks whether or not ONE mistake has indeed been done at some point. We are all aware it did happen at least once where an innocent has been excuted for a crime he/she did not commit. If we agree that it is true, then how can you possibly justify that it's still a viable way to deal with a problem knowing that at some point a mistake could indeed be made. Jail time can be stopped and a decision over turned, death can not...

  • The young republican states that capital punishement exists because there is an accepeted belief that there are crimes that can only be punished by the ultimate counter in the physical realm , death.

How can they morally consider that it is acceptable to take such a final stand to solve a problem based solely on an "acceptable belief".
