would have been interesting to see how well rafa would have done at roland garros in 2004, being that he was injured and could not compete at the french open that year..
Rafa really has two kinds of grip ....only hez using the heavy spin, accurate forehand which has helped him dominate clay and wimbledon the last few years.....but his old flat forehand (like the one in this video) was an amazing shot in itself....I remember in 2004 it seemed to be flatter and far more powerful than roger's forehand...I tell you if Rafa can switch back to this old forehand just for hardcourts its over lol
Although Rafa is my favourite, I like Andy too. At least when Andy loses, he always gives credit to his opponent, often times saying he was better, etc. Andy Roddick is a true class act, don't insult him! Rafa is just the best of his era, so he makes guys like Roddick look out of place sometimes.
Watching this match, I never would have thought that Rafa would be a multiple grand slam champion. I did however think he was gonna be one of the best players on clay in his generation.
6 years later Nadal has a better backhand;movement;speed;transition game and he is an ALL surface player having made the semis or better in ALL 4 majors and has 7 slams to Roddick's 1 and Nadal is just 24 years old and can improve his serve
@timafi Rafa improved his serve at the US Open by flattening it out to compliment the hard courts. Australian Open 2011 is going to be immense. Nadal playing well, Murray, Fed, Djokovic all playing well. Big Del should be back proper. This is a good time for tennis
This match was an awesome performance from young Rafa. This was the first time I saw him play and I was impressed. I hope Rafa gets his mojo back. Love you Rafa.
@jayze494 Good response....Rafa is so good that even though Djokovic is 37-0 this year, while winning all 7 tourneys he's entered, he's still not number 1. He will probably ascend to number 1 soon but Rafa will take it right back......Oh and since you came out of the closet and said "fail" now, don't forget that Rafa is 16-11 vs Djokivic, still, and what, 16-8 vs Federer??? Fail in your eyes equals success in my eyes, brah!!
@mousavsm rafa just failed at winning in melbourne and btw rafa won't take numer 1 right back if djokovic keeps playin that well he's just too good at the moment
@jayze494 Yes, at the moment he's the number one anyways (Djokovic). But if you understand and look at the rankings, Rafa has very little to defend after Wimbledon in terms of points. Rafa will be number one by seasons end, and probably way sooner. Also remember that Djokovic didn't have nearly as many points to defend, but he will have a lot to defend early next year rolls around. Joker is playing unbelieveable, we'll see how long he can go. GO RAFA!!
@timafi True, but 3 masters series 1000 events are also in that time frame. In those 3, he has little to defend and he also missed one so yea, compared to the beginning of the year, he has less to defend....
@mousavsm what do u think about rafa probably playing del potro in paris next week? is he going to win? paris is gonna be pretty interesting don't u think
@jayze494 Yea, it should be interesting for sure. I think Rafa will win it for his 10th slam but I'm a big fan so......Djokovic will be a formidable foe. Del Potro is pretty good but I don't think he will put up much resistance on clay vs Rafa....At the moment, i only see Djokovic and possibly Federer (in the semi's) as hurdles for Rafa. It should be interesting but I'd like to see Djokovic not make the finals and Rafa win (so he retains the number 1 rankings.....Should be fun!
@mousavsm yh i think del potro just got another injury so he won't be that much of a tough opponent for rafa..btw federer will face djokovic in the semis so one of those guys is gonna play rafa in the final unless he doesn't get there which I do not expect
roddick has made the semi final´s at rome twice, he reaches the 4th round at roland garros this year for the first time, I think that hardly qualifies as being absolutely shit on clay, considering he´s a hard court american raised player..
i so agree some clay court specialists dont do that verdasco has won less titles on clay reached the same round at the french and the masters record is even maybe slightly for roddick lmao not that its verdascos best service but he grew up on it
he's shit and yet he's won clay titles he's reached masters semis on clay and the frecnh 4th round some natural clay players from spain cant even do that
@dassmanen44 Yeh your right roddick is better than rafa on grass and hard court thats why he has more.. Oh wait both have a hard court and rafa actually humiliated federer after playing 6 hours 1 day before... Ok well he has more wimbledon finals. No rafa made 4 straight and hes also won 2 and beaten federer yet again. ok Well in the masters andy has more on fast surfaces... Oh wait noooo omg he actually doesnt rafa has more in montreal and IW than roddick in total!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah, just absolutely no chance for Roddick (on clay). One could think that these commentators never watched a clay court tennis game before. Maybe they thought this was a hardcourt. Anyway, Nadal would win easily on both surfaces.
well to be fair to the commentators this was probably before nadal established his dominance on clay courts. this took place in 2004, before nadal made any significant impact on on roland garros. and federer and roddick, at this time, were the two best players in the planet, so they probably figured roddick had a better chance than he really did.
You are such an idiot! He didn't make a significant impact on Roland Garros cause HE HASN'T PLAYED ROLAND GARROS YET!
And they already know that Roddick is terrible on clay. (Or they SHOULD) Also, Nadal beat Federer on hard courts this year! They should know how damn good he is! PLUS HE'S A SPANIARD! EVERY SPANIARD IS CRAZY ON CLAY! And if you look at his game, you'll say he's a VERY tough guy to play on clay even if you haven't seen him play on it! HEAVY TOPSPIN FOREHAND! Consistency! Omg...
lmao because federer fans never make excuses for him and nadal said in his interview he was not tired but lacked energy i think that was graceful after a 4 hour match the day before
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That's just because nadal can't admit that he is a worse player then Federer, and if you see how powerfull Nadal is, he can't lack energy after 4 hours of playing.
yh because he's not human is he your an idiot nadal said after he beat him in the wimbledon 08 final federer was still the best player in the world what you on about nadal cant admit federer is better then your a fucking idiot oh and btw fed just got knocked out hahahaha you fucking twat
hehe, I always love with when people like you just say F* this F* that, well you can be kind too at the same time huh. Well Federer has some things to improve still, and his lose doesnt mean anything, just that he needs to practice more.

Man Nadal's forehand then looked like Federers. What makes a player change their style? as in forehand stroke styles, is their any difference?
