To the heterosexuals reading this, remember that you also may belong to a group that was once oppressed and others that were unlike you fought for your human rights and dignity. Please return the favor. We all share this one Earth and no one is going anywhere. So let's all just get along and enjoy the ride together.
To all the homosexuals all over the world who are shunned, harassed, persecuted, ridiculed, bullied, oppressed, jailed, tortured, and/or murdered for being born who you are: Keep fighting for your human rights and dignity. You are fighting the good fight. One day bigotry and hate will fade into the shadows and the world will be much brighter.
Who in the world can dislike this song??? I mean really?!? Come on it is a good song and it has a lot of meaning!!! But anyways I love this song and I am glad I found it.
Maybe someday we shall overcome...I have hope, an immense amount of it, and I hope to help somehow make this song come true, but the world seems to be so insidious at times, it kind of makes one want to give up and just accept things the way they are, never expecting any change. But not now, not as long as I hear this song. :)
@TensaZangetsuTensou yeapp.. originallly called "Hum Hon Gey Kamiyab" meaning ... We'll be successful .. i think ... which in other words is "we shall overcome"
Allelujah! In recognition of Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, Toussaint L'ouverture, Boukman, Martin Luther King, Jr, Malcom X, Cheney-Shwerner-Goodman, Steven Biko, Nelson Mandela, Miriam Makeba, Mahatma Ghandi, John Lennon, William Loyld Garrison, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Stanton, Che Guevara, Noam Chomsky, Hugo Chavez, Edouard L. Noisin, and other peace makers/seekers, Peace and Shalom from the ONE and True Light YAHOSHUA HA MASHIACH.
I have walked the streets of Selma... i Have crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge... and i have stood in the Brown Chapel... and i know... i know that we shall still overcome the hatred that exist between any two people
This song is dedicated to my "sonny boy" Jean-Luc; I love you son for being beside me during this past presidential election. No more Bush (Le Meurtrier), Donald Rumsfeld (L'Idiot), Dick Cheney (L'Idiot des Idiots), Condoleeza Rice (Quel Honte!) and all of the other parasites (in particular, the evangelical conservative right vomit of vomits.) YAH rules, Satan is defeated, and YA'OSHUA is establishing is millennial kingdom. Peace and Shalom,
Congratulations to the brave Justices of the Iowa Supreme Court. When faced with a wrong, you righted it. You saw disgusting, systemic discrimination exactly for what it was and said no more. Let us hope that more human beings around the world will stand up for what is right, and let all homosexuals one day soon be free from malice, intolerance, hatred, bullying, being made fun of, violence, beatings, imprisonment, torture, murder, and bigotry.
I heard this song in Social studies last week, I love it, We are studying the Civil Rights Era, This is a beautiful anthem, we did this segregated thing when the blue eyed people get praised, encouraged, etc. I am blue eyed, and what happened I thought was wrong, well in the demonstration and real life. It really opened my eyes on what happened back then.
I was asking about a reference to "No More Auction Block" as a possible precursor to Tindley's 1901 gospel song "I'll Overcome" (which was sung by black women in from the labor movement in the 1940s and taken from there to Highlander via Zilphia Horton and also Pete Seeger). The director of Highlander, Guy Carawan, taught it at the first meeting of SNCC. Interesting story about how the "I" became "We" (not what you think - see Bernice Johnson Reagon's writing)
I would say Zilpha Horton/Pete Seeger/Guy Carawan all played a big role - Guy taught it then to the first SNCC meeting. I'm looking for evidence that WSO is derived from No More Auction Block, does anyone have either musical or lyrical evidence?
Look up in MySpace Bruce Springsteen rendition of WSO Live for BBC where he explains the origin of this powerful anthem...the current lyrics are attributed to Pete Seeger

We shall overcome, liked spanish people or not, they will have to learn to live with the idea of catalan culture not going to disappear in spite all their efforts since dictatorship till now.
Freedom for all nations, tribes and people on earth.!!!!! I fight for the freedom of Catalunya, my country, and for mine, because we all deserve it,
The ones that need to fuck others to feel good have a troubled mind, and will not be able to make us be silent, neither to make me leave this place as if he was a little fucking dictator, no my friend, here we have freedom of speech, here is not your little dictatorship, try to learn.
Freedom for all the nations, tribes and people on earth, who doesn't like all being being free has a big big problem in his troubled mind.My Country is Catalunya and I ant freedom for her and for me too, and anyone is gonna make me be silent.

An absolutely perfect song with a great video. It's rare when a song is both beautiful and powerful.
I hope it does speak for anyone who is oppressed, anywhere, anytime. It does give hope. Thanks for posting it.
