Yep... I unfortunately tried leading a group this game this last weekend and it took us 6 hours before calling it quits because we were playing it that incorrectly. but we had fun and thanks for clarifying things so it will go a lot smoother this weekend :)
Great videos. I have to ask one add question, Why are you playing a board game by yourself in a hotel room? Are you cheating on your spouse with a board game? lol
Thank you so much for these tutorials. When I bought this game I swear I spent at least 2 hours just trying to get it set up and figure out what the hell I was doing. The rulebook made no sense at all but things are definitely clearer now. Thanks again. :)
@djhoski Yes, I have that and I like it a lot. Best with 3p, IMO (1 Sauron player and 2 Hero players), or as 2p with 1 as Sauron and 1 controlling 2 Heroes. Wish I could play it more. But I really liked it the 4-5 times I've played.
@Grudunza Thanks for replying. I'm getting Arkham Horror and Middle Earth Quest pretty soon here. Your videos made it pretty clear that I'm going to like Arkham Horror. This will give me the option of competitive and cooperative, depending on what people are in the mood for. Again, great tutorial. Thanks for making it!
Phenomenal tutorial, I've had the game for a month or two and haven't had a proper game yet because I haven't gotten the right group of people together and wasn't confident in my understanding of the rules. I understood the order of turns precisely has you mentioned in video 2 or 3 that each play took a turn and then a mythos card was pulled. It made the game very difficult as you can imagine!
Thanks for the great tutorial! I watched all your videos twice and I must say now the things are starting to line-up. Thanks again! Although I can not wonder what you were doing in a hotel room with your Arkham Horror game at you :)
Thanks for this series of videos, it greatly enhanced my understanding of the rules and was easier to understand than the rulebook (which is poorly organized in my opinion).
If there were two Gates open to Celeano, would an explored token be put on both or just the one you come out of? Also would both gates be close/sealed or just the one you exit from?
Thanks again for your videos I played my 1st game last week with my friend and we both loved it. We won, but it was just because the cards were in our favor, every Mythos encounter card was the same boars destination so no monster because we had sealed the gate.
Quick question, everytime a player moves in the outerworld does he pick up an outerworld card in the encounter phase? Saw you do it in the video but I'm not sure.
@CRAZY6256 Yes, that's right. So in most cases it will work like this... MOVEMENT: move onto Gate. ARKHAM ENCOUNTERS: get sucked into gate and move to Other World. OTHER WORLD ENCOUNTERS: draw Other World encounter. Next turn... MOVEMENT: move to next side of Other World. OTHER WORLD ENCOUNTERS: draw Other World encounter. Next turn...MOVEMENT: move back to Arkham. ARKHAM ENCOUNTERS: close/seal gate. That all depends on what happens in the encounters, of course...
Watched all your videos after picking this game up. Your tutorials were extremely helpful, thanks for posting! Have you given any information on the card racks your using? They look great. Thanks again!
Great series. For all who are thinking of getting this game...there are now 7 expansions! 3 have extra map boards that append to the main board. The other 4 are card deck expansions that add a LOT to the game. For instance, there are new gate tokens with unique properties and abilities. Other rules add balance and let players customize the game's difficulty. I hope Fantasy Flight continues to add to this amazing series.
I watch all the 3 playthrough videos and somehow it feels boring fast and made me kind of sleepy. To be honest I'm planning to buy Arkham Horror this week but this playthrough made me to reconsider lol especially as I probably would be playing by myself too most of the time
Well maybe the narrative. Thanks for the tutorial though I consider them a gem. Very well done.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I´ve just bought the game, and I´ve think I´ve got a fair grip at the rules now. Still gonna read through the manual in case I´ve (or you) missed something. Thanks!
@P40F4vPilot You have to pass the check to close the gate, and then if you have enough Clue Tokens you may seal it as well. With an Elder Sign, you don't have to close it... just lose 1 Sanity and 1 Stamina and discard the Elder Sign and it's sealed (and a doom token is removed).
@greiver179 Those are "activity markers", meant to be a reference to place on locations to remind you of when there's something to remember there relating to a Mythos card environment or rumor, etc. You don't really need to use them, but they're there in case you want to, anyway.
@inlife9 Not likely, but there could be an Environment that references a place, a Rumor that involves a place, and a Headline that has an effect on a place for one turn, all of which you would presumably place an Activity Marker for.
The fact that you put so much time into doing this just makes you a great instructor. Calm voice, great recording, great explaining... well, everything was just perfect!
I've about 8 pages of written instructions based on your tutorials that I find even more helpful than Universal Head and ofcourse the rulebook that comes along.
Thanks for this Tutorial, I watched them all and have to say excellent work! I just recently purchased this game, and it helps to see the rules and a quick game played out. One question: Where did you get those awesome plastic playing card holders at? Those would be great to have to save space as you've done.

Queston on Gates: You have to close the gate 1st then if you have enough clue tokens you can seal it?
Using the Elder's Sign do you have to close it and then seal it with the ES or just seal skip the closing and just seal it?
P40F4vPilot 1 year ago
I found the answer to my own question.
1. You must close the gate first and then use 5 clue tokens to seal it.
2. When using the Elder's Sign you do not have to close the gate - just spend the 1 sanity and 1 stamina to seal the gate.
P40F4vPilot 1 year ago
@P40F4vPilot You have to pass the check to close the gate, and then if you have enough Clue Tokens you may seal it as well. With an Elder Sign, you don't have to close it... just lose 1 Sanity and 1 Stamina and discard the Elder Sign and it's sealed (and a doom token is removed).

P:S What are those markers at 9:04 bottom left corner...the ones numbered 1-3
greiver179 1 year ago 2
@greiver179 Those are "activity markers", meant to be a reference to place on locations to remind you of when there's something to remember there relating to a Mythos card environment or rumor, etc. You don't really need to use them, but they're there in case you want to, anyway.

@Grudunza The markers confuse me a bit. They are numbered 1-3. Don't Mythos cards replace each other? How do you get 3 things happening at once?
-Thanks.
inlife9 1 year ago
@inlife9 Activity markers that is.

@inlife9 Not likely, but there could be an Environment that references a place, a Rumor that involves a place, and a Headline that has an effect on a place for one turn, all of which you would presumably place an Activity Marker for.
