  • Insane....insane how incredible this song is........

  • 8 people can't sing -_-"

  • Ukulele version is needed.

  • Ukulele version is needed.

  • Dear #OWS, dear NYPD... sing.

  • Wow, 3:50.... so much damn passion. It gave me chills. I think I'll watch it again.

  • I sang. This song always gets to me. It's both uplifting and sad

  • I cried a little.

  • 8 people are deaf

  • @IZZYcoble

Hey, man. My mother is deaf and she sings a lot. Granted, she went deaf in an accident, but still.

  • Brian at the end reminds me why I wanted to be just like him a few years ago. Adorable as hell, and he wears a hat.

  • stupenda. la dedico a te.

  • I played the Original Music video, I enjoyed the way the Video was shot, How it was done.. Everything about it. But Once I heard that "You MotherFuckers" was censored, It killed the entire thing for me. Music should NOT be censored! The Artist wrote it the way they wanted, and It should Remain that Way!

  • You WILL FEEL FAT IF YOU SING SOMETHING!

Amiright? it sounds like that.. 3:33-38

  • @TheSillysally1234567 It says "You mother fuckers you will sing one day" I am pretty sure.

  • @TheSillysally1234567 no no...i believe it was ''you might get fat if you sing to me''...thats what i heard around the tenth time i listened lol

  • @onemanjazzfuneral haha true, true!

  • @TheSillysally1234567 The lyric is actually "You motherfuckers, you'll sing someday!" If you watch the official video (not this alternate take), they censor out 'motherfuckers'.

  • There is this thing that's like fucking except you don't fuck....

  • @ChildlikeTendencies It's actually is "There is this thing thats like touching except you don't touch."

  • @xXxpOiZuNcUpCaKexXx There's a more explicit take of this song where she says 'fucking' instead of 'touching'.

  • amazing band

  • i only discovered the dredsen dolls today. my fuck have i only just lived.

  • shivers.

  • Anyone know why they take "we don't care what you say" out of every video? It changes the feel of the last stanza, I think. Awesome song, of course, and this version of the video speaks more clearly than the other.

  • One the most extraordinary songs ever written and performed. Just leaves you feeling on an incredible high

  • this is how i wish to play piano. Any one know where I can get sheets? Lord, i cant even type right while listening to this..

  • That's powerful shit.

  • I love this song.

I prefer this version of the video as well.

  • Still has to be my favorite Dresden Dolls song. :)

  • it makes me cry.

  • i love how amanda really gets into the music it makes it so much more real i love her! and this video is so amazing

  • This music, this band, these words ... they are life changing. I've been listening to it all day and I still hear something new. Like BelialMadHatter said: A song that can change the world. Sing ....

  • A song can change the world.

  • i like this better than the first awesome

  • such a beautiful song =)

  • Wrecking ball hits theatre? Thaz sad. ): So much for the memory.

This song makes me feel really grateful for what I've got that aren't materialistic. Like.. the feelings people show towards me, how I'm acknowledged.

Plus, I totally would rather sing than touch.

  • This is my hands-down no equivocation 100% absolute favorite fuckin YouTube video. I mean that includes John Fucking Lennon, The Beatles, EVERYONE. I also thinks it's Amanda's best song, among many great songs.

  • This song and video reduces me to a puddle of sobs. Quite possible the most beautiful song/video I have ever seen.

  • Those are some fierce eyebrows, Amanda.

  • i love the look on brian's face in the window. too cute.

  • ITSSS AMAZINGGG SINGG SINGGGGGggg!!!! yaayyyyy ;)

  • This song is the inspiration for my music career. Keeps me going when people tell me I can't do it.

  • @waerfeles I hear you on that one man, and love that fact that this song doesn't cut out the passion with the editing, like when she was gasping for air for the one "just sing"

  • I wonder if a bunch of people actually got these letters. That would be so cool! I love the Dresden Dolls!

  • Best two lines ever uttered in the English language.

There is thing thing keeping everyone's lungs and lips locked.

It is called fear and it's seeing a great renaissance.

    Sing!

  • The bit after 3:00 gives me goosebumps!!

  • This sent chills up my spine...

    AWESOME!!!

  • te amo amanda palmer

  • Life is no cabaret....

  • we're inviting you anyway.

  • @GhostsOfKrysmasPast We're inviting you anyway.

  • I have an eating disorder. I have been stuffing my face all week and feeling numb and for some reason this song is speaking to me right now.

  • @cait72590

maybe you like "bad habit" too, amanda palmer wrote this song because of her nail biting problem

I wish you all the best and I hope you find a way out

  • love this song :) one of my favourites. relaxes me

  • This song makes my life better. I don't mean that in metaphorically either... every time I listen to it (and it's always on in my car), I get a little happier inside.

Sing for the children shooting the children, sing.

  • @hokiefilm This is the song that makes me sing, even when I have no confidence in anything else in life.

We've got to make things right, right?

If it's through singing...that can be everyone's banner to take up.

  • its a good way to get your music known if theres a big music scene in your town, i used to leave CDs on buses in restaurants in books in the library EVERYWHERE. really got us known (mostly for being the arseholes who left CDs everywhere :P) but known nonetheless

  • "Sing for the teacher who told you that you couldn't sing" always makes me tear up.

What a wonderful idea it would be to pass our CDs like that.

  • I sang along at the end my first time listening to this.

And I have done ever since.

  • I miss them.

  • ... sing for the baby flap ever day ... palim palim flip flop !!

  • So so beautiful. And a simple message- just sing :)

  • you motherfuckers you'll sing someday!

    what a GREAT song!

  • Fuckin love in a video!

    It's such an amazing video.

    =]

  • I'm in love with this song since I heard it for first time.

    Very very beautiful.

  • thank god that at least they still have this video on here, which is pretty much ten times better then the old one. however, warner/road runner is SCREWED UP and should get over the fact that they aren't making as much money as they want to. BRING BACK THE FUCKING VIDEOS!!!

  • Heehee, Regent Theater, that's in my hometown! Funky video. =)

  • The craziest thing about this song -- about them in general -- is that the recorded versions evoke the same emotions as seeing them live...and that's a wonderful experience.

  • beautiful beautiful song

  • 1:43. It's so pretty. This song is like heart rending. And beautiful.

  • This song makes me cry. I don't sing in my choir at school and a lot of people don't realize how much I love to sing, even my family, they think that it's just for fun. This song is what singing is to me.

  • this song touches me in so many ways. I recently lost my brother, and this song makes me think of what i do have and what other people go through and that i am not the only one in this world who is having a hard time. Its just so inspirational!

    It makes me happy!

    :)

  • i understand this video completely, if my local theatre was to be demolished i would be totally devestated, such a brilliant song. I'm in love with the line "there is this thing keeping everyone's lungs and lips locked, it is called fear and it's seeing a great renaissance" it's so beautiful!

  • they didnt break up. they r taking a break from each other to persue other interests, but amanda says that they r still together. check out her blog she explains the whole thing

  • if they were broken up i wouldnt be going to see them in december when they come to my state.

  • woohoo mee too i'm going in December! Stupid TICKETMASTER

  • where at? me and my friend and her mom (who also likes em) are going in portland. and since its part of her b-day present i dont have to pay! im so exited!

  • Very cool, I'm aiming for Dec 16 in Hollywood, yeah! I hope she sings night reconnaissance... because of the lyrical reference to hollywood... Portland should be rad, also.

  • You're seeing HER in December, not THEM.

  • yeah turns out it was just her (and i violinist and chellist {did i say those right?})

but other than some songs i didnt know (from her album that came out in september) i think the songs were pretty much the same without brian. although it was kinda dissappointing that he wasnt there.

dang she's so freaking beautiful. i was right in the front. her voice is so amazing shes just as good (if not better) in person than she is on a CD

  • I prefer this one to the other one as well.

I'd say it's one of the best music videos i've seen in my life.

    pure poetry.

  • i like the original one better. but i understand both and like them both...i just like the other one better :)

  • Somehow, I prefer this video to the other one. Much more touching, I think.

  • wheres the fuck and the fucking??...

  • they changed it to "touching" because they prefered it. it's way more poigniant :)

  • Sing for the teachers that told you that you couldn't sing

  • this is how i found out about this band

  • this is the song that made me fall in love with the Dresden Dolls

  • yeah, this song gave me goosebumps too. The part where it shows everyone singing in the end, really touching.

  • this gave me goosebumps...and I cried a bit...

"there is this thing keeping everyone's lungs and lips locked...it is called FEAR and it's seeing a great renaissance.."

    love that line. :)

and I love the Dresden Dolls.

    and I always will.

  • she says sing for the kid on the phone that refuses to sing. The phone isn't refusing to sing, the kid is. Geez. Idiot.

  • what version started with 'there is this thing that's like f-ing except you don't f---'? I have listened to every version I could find, even live, and she always seems to start with 'there is this thing that's like touching except you don't touch'? If anyone knows where the other version is, I would like to hear and compare...

  • I think it may have been edited... I haven't heard any wind of anything like that...

  • Originally, the lyrics were 'liking fucking except you don't fuck' - when Yes, Virginia leaked, that's the version that was on it. However, Palmer changed the lyric to "touching except you don't touch" permanently - she liked it better and wanted less cursing (she may have originally recorded the alt version for a radio edit). She liked it better than the original lyric and thus changed it. That's why on the real CD (and these videos) it says "touching" instead of "fucking"

  • i have that version

they are identical apart from she replaces the touching with f-ing... the rest of it is exactly the same :)

  • i love the other cut of this song.

  • Much better cut... it replaces "there is tis thing thats like f-ing except you dont f----" and that was just kinda stupid... esp to start out on.

  • Gave me chills.

I can't put the rest of it into words...

    So beautiful, so powerful.

  • This song is so beautiful. I think I'm going to get on my piano and learn this just so I can sing along to it as well. Its strange, everyone always says that laughter and smiles are a universal language, but we always forget that singing is as well. It can express so many emotions that simply could not be explained by merely speaking the lyrics; they must be sung. I already sing all the time when I get the chance, but now I think I will even more.

  • So completly and utterly true.

I love this song so much.

  • I like this video a lot better.

  • So do I, it shows so much more.

  • Powerful stuff. I love it.

  • I love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • So i had a freind who would always sing P.O.D. beatles not my favorite type of music and i would just shut him up this song is beautiful i cried i realise he was right for singing i'm gonna tell him good job tomorrow for just singing and maby i'll start too

  • luv the sng+video

    they r so hot.lol

  • I believe she is talking about singing for the people who don't have a voice.

  • We DO have a voice. Listen for how everyone is connected to each other. We are all one. It's beautiful.

  • MUCH MUCH MUCH better then the other video omg it nearly made me cry

  • Did make me!!

  • I love the part when Amanda brushes the tear from her eye... So amazing.

  • i like this version better.

  • I like both and well... its almost similar really.

lol at Brian at the end and Amanda's hotter with no make up for me :>

  • completely agreed! :]

  • I remember hearing them perform it in Seattle quite sometime ago, almost everyone started crying.

    it's beautiful.

  • amazing. love it, love it, love THEM. ^^,v

  • loved it

  • Both versions are amazing, emotional and outright beautiful.

  • aww i love this its so meaningfully beautiful. (song AND video)

  • ooh my God... this almost made me cry. so much better than the other video.

  • powerful.

  • I like this so much better than the actual video that was released!

    Argh Micheal Pope!!!!

  • thanks. that is sad..

  • I like this Version better than the other one.

  • I think this version was better. And I think even though the theater is mentioned I think it is only a piece of what was intended. Thank you Dresdendolls for posting both.

  • I love covering this song at acoustic tuesdays...it always gets a powerful response and...

  • I LOVE THIS VERSION BETTER!!!!

  • Is that the Someday Café at the end of the video? That would be ironic, since the Regent Theater (I assume that's what the article was about, since that's where hte video was filmed) is still going strong, but the Someday lost their lease earlier this year. Sadly.

(I agree with IceHedge, though, it's not really about the theater.)

  • There's a much grander scale going on than just the theatre..

  • Teddymermigas, Amanda is crying because the theatre is going to be destroyed. At least that's why I think she is. I agree that this one is the best.

  • Okay, I feel stupid asking this, but why was Amanda crying?

  • because the old theater was gonna get destroyed... among other reasons (sing for the children shooting the children...)

but in context to where she was in that shot, my guess would be the theater.

  • Brian looks so cute at the end of this video.

  • This one was GRRREAT! I'm glad they did cut out the mf'n part! It's the song and her emotion can be felt. Beautifully sung!

  • OH i am So in this video for like 3 seconds.

  • seriously....when/where

  • Amanda is so damn pretty

  • I love the original version, chapt 2 but I think this one surpasses it... as far as getting the point across - it's much more emotional.

  • I love this song. My friend introduced me to The Dresden Dolls yesterday and I'm flat out in LOVE with them! Brilliant song...

  • ditto. I'll start it here in stoke-on-trent UK.

  • Cracking. I live 3 miles from S-O-T lets get it going!.(*dreaming of being able to play as well as Amanda...*)

  • I preffer this version. Amanda is hot (H)

  • Watch out for those red envelopes. I had an allergic reaction licking one shut, and my tongue swelled up. Now I can't sing.

  • lmao

  • I prefer this version.

  • "There is this thing keeping everyone's lungs and lips locked:it is called "fear" and it's seeing a great reneissance" that line hits it right on...everyone's so affraid of everything, which is why so few sing...but I do, even when I'm alone :)

  • i really love this song.

  • ditto to that. i'm gonna try it here in Melbourne! first to start with my school

  • Definite goosebumps. Let's sing!!!

  • ditto here too. i'll start it here in menomonee falls.

  • Start passing around the red envelope. It might make a difference. I'm going to start doing it here in Ogden UT. This world is rarely something to be proud of anymore. Make a difference. And don't be afraid.

  • Ditto here. Start passing it round people. Im gonna start here in Brisbane. The Dresden dolls mean what they say, why dont you mean what you agree with. Start now.

  • This video gave me shivers. <3

  • I love this song! I show this song to my friends and they just go " Wow!" I mean we all have to admit, The Dresden Dolls are just simply amazing!

  • Simply amazing.

  • I love this song. She really brings out her emotions, and tells about how curupt the world is.

  • effin a

why is this not the official video? it's great.

  • Brian is such a kick ass drummer

  • I luv the Dresden Dolls soooo much!!!!! n Emilie Bera is on this video YAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!

  • Did anyone else notice that the front page of Amanda's paper was "U2's Bomb" ? =p

Beautiful song, vocalist, woman, drummer, album. Etc.

  • this song made me cry, i have never heard it before, it was wounderful, i love the dresden dolls!!!! xoxoxoxoxox <3

  • gorgeous. just amazing.

  • this is soo sad i love the dresden dolls

  • I found this video much more profound. I loved it.

  • Well, I finally get to see the video I waited for hours in the cold to be a part of... my friend and my ex are visible, and some tall guy blocks me out. Just lovely.

  • This track changed my life, last year!! Best vid of 2006!!

  • I love this song....the Dresden Dolls are great artists and like any great artist they are able to reach into a person's soul and make them feel so many different things at the same time..this song makes me feel sad, inspired, and joyous at the same time...makes me feel some hope for a world that all to often seems hopeless.

  • This version of the video presented the message behind the song much more clearly than the other. I like them both, but I like this one more.

  • The Dresden Dolls are fucking awesome and this is my favorite song by them!

  • I'm obsessed with this song. I know all the words and I'm thinking of singing this for the talent show at school.

  • you should . i was thinking of doing the same but i didnt .. LET ME LIVE MY DREAMS THROUGH YOU ... lol .. but really .. and if you can get ahold of a guitar its not that hard to play either .. and its great great fun .. cuz you can shock your school when you sing the first like with fucking instead of touching YAY
