I feel so heartbroken at the end of this, so melancholy. Excellent acting, writing, directing and a solid score culminate together and are so deeply effective. I never get sick of this movie.
Does anyone know the origin of the prince story? Was it really a story his mom told him, is it based on some famous story, or was it just the creation of the screenwriter of the movie? Regardless, it's a great scene, and an awesome story. I just want to know where it came from.
the story at the end of the movie was so touching and moving brings tears to my eyes hearing it... what a great movie... great cast... cant beleave it took me 14 years to see it...
and i will never forget meeting Jean 4 times, buying his drawings and some paintings as i went to school in N.Y.C. moving back home and then he passed on 2 months after the last time we spoke in June 1988.
I love you Jean..i do...i miss you man.

when i was 17, my mom bought an illegal cable-box in chinatown.
& by chance i watched this film in my room on pay-perview.
then my grandma gave me that same hawiian shirt for my birthday.
my eyes began to water up & she assumed it was because i didn't like her gift.
i tried to explain; but she couldn't understand.
so many years later, the image of the prince is still in my thoughts?

At 2:58, the World Trade Center appears above Basquiat, who wears shoes labeled Titanic. Doom city.
