  • when vy canis majoris explodes it will do a hypernova a hypernova is more powerful then supernova but canis majoris is millions of lightyears likke 100000.00000 lyight years away so canis wont harm us but canis will go before betelguse cause its more bigger then betelguse.

  • if the supernova is to be seen in my lifetime, this means it must have become a supernova over 400 years back, its already a supernova, know what I mean?

  • One source claims Betelgeuse has gone supernova and we will see it in 38 years.

  • @rollsthepaul what source?

  • @nixxxon18 Captain Bill atlanticobr channel.

  • Comment removed

  • @rollsthepaul how is it possible to get the information about supervova explosion faster than speed of light??only when we see the event we can be sure

  • @rollsthepaul That's impossible. If Betelgeuse were to explode right now, we wouldn't see it until 2652.

  • @LiberalJerseyman Betelgeuse probably already exploded.

  • @rollsthepaul for that to be true there would have to be someone 38 light years away from us directly in between us and this star, sending messages instantaneously somehow not using radio waves or light signals to tell us this, meaning that the message would also not get here for another 38 years. You sir, are a moron.

  • omg... it is not 10.000 years old but 10.000.000 years old...

  • Comment removed

  • i hope it goes in my lifetime it will be such a thing to experience, i almost wouldnt care if it did kill me. even though i know it wouldnt

  • beautiful

  • That star going supernova would be a sight to see indeed. I don't know why but I think supernovas are awesome. The bigger a star is the shorter its lifespan. Back when the galaxy was young there were stars that made the biggest starts we know of look like a grain of sand compared to the Earth.

  • LETS JUST HOPE IT DOESN'T SEND A GAMMA RAY BLAST THIS WAY!!!

  • @MrCHINBAG Yeah no kidding. A gamma ray blast would be a terrible way to go. Like staring down the barrel of a gun.

  • The galaxy just won't be the same without you B!

  • We don't have to worry about gamma rays hitting earth from this star. Because the poles are facing away from the earth.

  • @bombarderoazul actually we dont know were the poles are aligned on betelgeuse

  • damn thats strong

  • when does a person bout to die in 10-1000 years?? -_-

  • I want to see the supernova of VY Canis Majoris. :D

  • I hope it does go Nova in my lifetime - it would be a fabulous spectacle. Probably the most awesome natural event witnessed by man.

It is possible it could go in the year 2012 but I highly hope not 'cos we'll never hear the fucking end of it from the nutjobs :D

  • : According to professional people..gamma burst will be no problem in this case.."unprofessional people" seem to be inventing many different stories.. (-.-;)

  • ermmmm its not spectaculary.. it will send gamma ray burst at the earth so we will die in 1 of 2 ways: 1. the earth burns up. 2. we all die by radioactivity.

    Cya!

  • Caps = importance

  • maybe it was it which explodes a few minutes ago? I saw a flash of white light in the sky and it was not from the moon, not from any flying objects on earth, nor a meteor. maybe it was this one.

  • That looks like it's my stomach when I ate something baddd

  • Betelgeuse, Beetlejuice, Betelgeuse and alas... it's gone supernova.

  • OMG!! O LOL

  • Los que convertís en ajenjo (large - star - estrella )

    el juicio, y la justicia la echáis por tierra, buscad al que hace las Pléyades y el Orión, y vuelve las tinieblas en mañana, y hace oscurecer el día como noche;

    Amos 5:8

  • although it would be a spectacular sight indeed, i would be kind of sad to see it die. its my favorite star besides our own.

  • I dont think betelgeuse is 10 million years old? thats actually really young for a star considering the sun is like 4 and a half BILLION years old.

  • @Wassamattawityou Red Giants don''t have a very long life span due to their mass which causes the fuel to be used much faster, hence it is possible. Of course that number is just an estimate :)

  • @Wassamattawityou WE KNOW NOTHING OF STARS. THE MATH WE USE IS SPECULATION MULTIPLIED AGAINST THEORETICAL FIGURES AND THEN DIVIDED BY THEORIES.. WE COULD BE OFF ON OUR CALCULATIONS BY AN ORDER OF MAGNITUDE OF MILLIONS. IT'S LIKE A FRUIT FLY SEEING THE OCEAN FOR 1.25 SECONDS AND USING THAT DATA TO TRACE THE ANNUAL FLOW AND TEMPERATURES OF THE ATLANTIC THERMAL CONVEYOR. OR EVEN MORE REDICULOUS, IT'S LIKE AL GORE TRYING TO GUESS THE OVERALL TEMP TRENDS OF EARTH WITH ONLY A THIN SLICE OF DATA. LOL

  • @Wassamattawityou WHEN IS A STAR BORN? WHEN IT IS IN FUSION? ACCORDING TO OUR SCIENTISTS, STARS TAKE LONGER TO FORM THAN TO BURN... BUT THEY HAVE NOTHING TO GO ON BUT SPECULATION, REALLY.

  • @Yankeeprepperasshat is your caps broken or do you just like to yell at people?

  • BETELGEUSE. ALIGNED WITH .PYRAMID OF KING DJOSER VIZIER IMHOTEP

  • is this real footage of its surface? Or is it computer generated??

If its real how/when did they get it?

It was my understanding that it was only a few years ago that we could view our own sun in such detail??

  • 640 light years away actually, and the star could have went supernova already.

  • @Moon9222011 how do you calculate the 7th seal to start by 9/22 the sixth seal is when the sun will be darked moon blood red stars fall to earth probably via nibiru or a wormwood so 6th has to occur first, trumpet 1 is when revelation commences and it will hit the earth and bible says 3.5 days until the two prophets return so that must be years 5th trumpet is wormwood that releases the beast/s from the pit the 7th trumpet n seal is when the son of man returns judes and then armegeddon id say 2014

  • ..but its a globzillion miles away. We only see the light from about 500 years ago.

  • Betelgeuse , Elenin , World War 3 , Earthquake ..... More Then 2012

  • Betelgeuse...Betelgeuse...BETELGEUSE!!!!!!

  • I'm pretty sure that when it explodes, It will be so bright, we will see the explosion during the day...

It happened once about 1,000 year ago with another star...

  • it could have contracted then exploded circa 650 years ago and WE may see the RESULTS SOON. I'm not kidding. Time may be an illusion/tool given by God to us in order to help us have the possibility to rectify our mistakes. This event may be NO accident.

  • deliberately misleading.

  • It may of already exploded, but we wont see it in our lifetime :)

  • 10 years.... bull shit man

  • It may have already supernovad and we don't know it yet, it's effects on gravity would alter all of our research of the universe as we are assuming it's still there

  • Do you imagine our sun in that state? It would be like living with a ticking time bomb close to us. SO SCARY! O_O

  • Really nice video, Betelgeuse looks so clear in this video, and it's nice to see him moving :D

  • 1000 years is like the last few dying moments to a 5,000,000,000 year old sun! that's 66 million times longer life then a human being , so 1000 years is like .000001 percent of a suns life span! SO, YES, it is about to die in the next few moments, moments to a sun, 1000 years to a human beings.

"1000 years is like a watch in the night to God" one love

  • Betelgeuse is about 8-9 million years old, so 1,000 years is like saying an 80-year-old man has 3-4 days to live because he's getting old and starting to look frail. It's a ridiculously precise prediction for a star when nobody has ever observed a similar event in detail.

At least we've observed enough dying humans to make realistic predictions. Betelgeuse is a blob of light, quadrillions of miles away, and it recently dimmed slightly. Nobody can predict its death to within 1,000 years.

  • @truthseeker010101 stars like Betelgeuse, hyper giants tend to only last 10,000,000 years, while less massive stars who use there hydrogen slowly can last as long as 10,000,000,000

  • 10-1000 to death? thats still a long time...might as well just say its sick, not dying

  • even if it went supernova in like a month we wouldn't see it until like 430 years later

  • Universe so big and people think we r the only ones in it ????

  • @48tank youre right. universe so impossibly huge that there has to be plenty of life on plenty of really far away planets

  • @zonecastkids 77 Quantillion sq miles is a lot of space for life, I agree that life could form all over the universe

  • @truthseeker010101 probably even bigger than that ;)

  • I will fully explain the truth of the "Circle of Knowledge" as I see it in an upcoming video...Soon

  • This goes in hand with some theories that the more people on earth, the more we have the chance of one person discovering something we need to save ourselves from destroying our planet...My conclusion...Make love, not War. Peace

  • Himself

  • Science though, I believe, being more of a tool, which also include all mathematics as being the back bone of the circle of knowledge. The more we learn the smaller the circle becomes as all knowledge yet to discover is the area inside the circle. The more we pull out of the circle, the smaller it becomes until we have learned all there is, then math and science cease to exist as we no longer have the need for it. this is the singularity when all is one and we become God in himself.

  • God, the Universe, Man, and science are all of one, I believe

  • example, God observed the creation of the Universe and by doing so altered the experiment enough to create man in his own image. Then we are of God. The more we learn of an experiment or observe the Universe the more man as a whole could alter it. Man as a whole (inclusive of everybody) would have the most direct influence as man as a whole is more of God.

  • It may have already happened, it would take a few centuries till the light from it happening to see it. Maybe that is what is confusing scientists on all Astronomy research, it's effect on gravity would skewer all results on anything in the universe a tiny bit but more on objects closer. That could be a place to do some research, assume it has happened and how it could effect results of our experiments. It has been noted by many that just observing an experiment alters the results, deep

  • Apparently its luminosity has dropped 10% in the last decade, a sure sign that its not long until the big KABOOM! For all we know, it could have happened years ago...

  • What Will Be the second Brightest star on the nightsky when betelgeuse Die?

  • @SinishaTheScoper The brightest object in the night sky would be either Venus or Jupiter depending on the time of year, where you are on Earth and wether Venus, Jupiter or the Earth are on the oposite sides of Sol than each other. Sirius (pole star) is the brightest star in the sky on a normal basis, When Betelgeuse goes Supernova it would be as bright as the full moon and thus brighter than any star or planet and will remain this bright for about 3 months.

  • i dont uderstand when will be supernova

  • Betelgeuse is steadily shrinking, it has shrunk by 15% since 1993, this may or may not be linked to a supernova. When it does go supernova it will last for about 2-3 weeks

  • @TheNiceZombie Yeah but it could have died 640 years ago in which case we would notice it now.

  • For about 15 seconds every 100 years or so when a star this big supernovas, the outer layers of its core reach the highest temperatures in the modern universe. And its only during that window that elements heaver than iron like gold, silver, platinum, uranium and so on can be fused. That's how rare they are.

Betelgeuse won't explode any time soon.

Before our sun a massive star like this was in this area and blew apart creating our stellar nursery. all the bits that made us up.

  • @MrDoeskie The star is 640 light years away. It means it takes 640 years, for light, travelling at approx 300,000,000 metres per second, to reach our eyes here on earth.

So right now the star is probably still running large and hot ( as super giants do ). In unfortunately means that if this particular star exploded we would not see it for another 640 years.

How ever far the star is away in light years, thats how long it takes for the light to reach us... oddly enough :-)

  • I truly hope that by time im 40, there is the technology to let people live forever.

If it cost me 1billion dollars I would still do it(if i had the money)

  • Thanks for the post!

  • The star is abt 600 light years from here, may be it already burst into a pulsar.

May be extraterrestrial civilisations already knew it.

Pobably they travel through interdimension channels and that is why during XV°th century ufo were evidenced in the skys of many old pictures of . It's only a theory..

  • @Oshawott97 it on discovery tvs chanel actually the tv show is in discovery science in how universe works

  • stupid question by someone who knows very little of astrology, but has recently found it interesting: is that video of Betelgeuse's surface real or simulated?

  • @MasterGouken simulated, we have no telescope even remotely powerful enough to view something that far away in that kind of detail

  • this might be false but the mayans said it was going to happen and those mafuckers are crazy mafuckers

  • its funny...cause were watching battlegues the way it was some 450- years ago. since light also takes time to travel (light years) so at that distance it might have gone Supernova 450 years ago(if we see it sometime) and we only see the blast now.

on the other hand maybe it exploded just now...and we will see it in another 400 years ..that sucks don't it? wish i could live at least a fracture of that

  • Well, Jeff, I'd have done anything, but she couldn't be helped.

  • whats the name of the song?

  • The truth is if it goes supanova today we wont see it until 650 years later beacause it is 650 light years away. This betelguese allegation is misleading.

  • we don't really know if the star had already gone supernova since it is 430 light years away, so say it actually went supernova today, we would have to wait 430 years for people on earth to see it

  • Comment removed

  • Well...dr. Brad Carter, said. it could be in every day....

    2 suns....no nights...lotsa depressive ppl...it'll be great.

  • Only ways for a doomsday is 1. Aliens decide to kill us 2. Our sun goes supernova

  • yeah exactly ! she going to explose soon and we shall have 2 sun

  • Really, it could have went supernova already, but the light hasn't reach us as of yet., remember the light we seeing from it now in the night sky was how it looked it 500 some odd years ago...

  • @Trapadon25 Most who've left comments here know this already.

    Also, it's 600ly at least.

  • See the news article out today, hinting we may see the supernova this year? Until today we all were settled with the idea that it was gonna happen sometime in the next million yrs and like Tony says a 1% chance in the next 1000. So why even bring it up? Remember there is another idea that a red dwarf exists, and is on long orbit with our sun. Supposedly it would become visible in or around 2010-2011....something to keep in mind if we do see another sun. )))

  • It is amazing how the net is used to give false information. I have read in science books that Betelgeuse has a 1% chance of exploding in the next 1000 years, which is far from being a certainty.

  • @TonyLalangue and how you can prove that book is right? The truth is no one knows anything for sure, as of today. There are only hypothesis

  • @nixxxon18 Ok, let's go with the more conservative estimate. Scientists say it will go supernova some time in the next million years. I'll give you half of that and say some time in the next 500.000 years That gives it a chance of going supernova in the next 1000 years of .2% The earlier extimate was based on the suggestion it would go supernova some time in the next 100,000 years. Any way you look at it the suggestion that we will see this in our lifetimes is miniscule.

  • @TonyLalangue well, I just wanted to give some hope to the people who want to see a spectacular supernova someday - me included. And some scientists say it could go supernova very soon.

  • @nixxxon18 Yes I would like to see that too. Nice art work, though. Still, I'm more interested, for now, in the ongoing search for planets, which seems to be making new discoveries all the time, and the growth in knowledge in the geology of planets.

  • @nixxxon18 “soon” is astronomer speak for sometime in the next 100,000 years or so (give or take a factor of 10),

  • @nixxxon18 I completely agree with you,but I doubt that in our lifetime we will ever witness a supernova...

  • @nixxxon18 I've saw a posting from one of those 2012 nuts that claims that Betelgeuse will go supernova on 22 September 2011. One has a better chance of winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning...

  • @nixxxon18 even if it explodes, its 500 light years away. earth will just visual two sun within 420 years after the explosion.

  • @nixxxon18 even if it went super nova today, it would still take some 400 plus years for people on earth to see it, as the light from its exploding would take the same amount of time to get here as its regular light would, in other worlds, how many ever light years away it is.

  • @MechaShadowV2

Hehe, it have been super nova already, now we just wait the time to come.

  • @TMscorpion1000 well yes that is a possibility that its already gone supernova, but theres no way of knowing for sure

  • @nixxxon18 its true. NASA announced that it is going supernova in between 2011 and 2016

  • @lookibatmanitesfatma

Yeah but the star is way too far to fry us up anyway. There is absolutely nothing to worry about :D

  • @lookibatmanitesfatma hahaha care to give the reference?

  • @TonyLalangue will actually go supernove in next BILLION yearswhen our own sun gets a bit bigger

  • @Nugwrangler I've read it is nearer to 5 Billion. But suns like ours tend to puff up into gas gaints, blow off some layers and slowly cool off to a white dwarf. I, on the other hand, have been known to go supernova on occasion. ;o)

  • Comment removed

  • @TonyLalangue may possibly within the next million years. Because Betelgeuse is between 497 and 789 lightyears away from Earth, Betelgeuse may have already become a supernova centuries ago; if so, the light is still in transit...

  • @TonyLalangue Betelguese was observed to shrink 10% in size over a 3 month period in 2009, its safe to say it doesn't have much longer, based off of previous observations of other stars that went supernova

  • @TonyLalangue

Believing in a book is like believing and article on the internet. I think you wouldn't believe the internet. So why believe a book then?

  • @0darkG It depends on who you are relying on for your information. I do not rely on bloggers for my knowledge on astronomy without having some idea that they have the credentials to back up their claims. On the internet, anyone with a computer and an internet connection can make claims like the above. In this I already trump them in credentials, having studied physics at an undergraduate level. This means I can understand the underlying mathematics. Seek knowledge, not rhetoric.

  • @TonyLalangue Maybe not, but would definitely be something to see... I would die a very happy man having been able to witness such an amazing event.

  • What's with all this 2012 bullshit? When this star finally dies, it'll just be another bright spot of light in our sky, although it'll be about as bright as a crescent moon. No doomsday event. Also, it's an astronomical time scale, so it may be another million years before this actually happens.

2012 doomsday crap and this star going supernova have nothing to do with each other. Quit trying to mash together things you clearly know nothing about.

  • @MoonHeadJohn The star already died hundreds of years ago and the light from the explosion is thought to reach Earth just before 2012, but no, it has nothing to do with doomsday or whatever... and it won't be as bright as a crescent moon, the explosion it self will be around 3 to 4 times the size of a full moon and so bright that we will be able to see it even during the day, and for about 2 weeks we won't really have a dark night, it will always be almost as if it was 24h daylight.

  • @M4XC4V413R4 Mind producing a reputable source for your wild claim that it has already happened? I've read a number of articles on the subject and not one of them say it has happened already. In fact, most have said that we have no way of knowing. So I can't help but get the feeling that you're talking out of your ass. Unless you have a source of course and you're not relying on something a friend of a friend of a friend told you.

  • @MoonHeadJohn Well, i'm talking as much out of my ass as you since you didn't quote any sources at any time, on any of your comments... look it up, first search i made on google there was articles that said exactly what i replied to you. There were also (as you said) articles that said the contrary..... so, which ones do we "believe" in??

  • @M4XC4V413R4 That's possibly because the burden of proof doesn't rest on me. You were the one to make the claim that it is already dead. And simply saying that typing it into Google isn't providing a source. But seeing as you're likely to throw this pitiful excuse at me again, I'll just go ahead and quell any reason for you to utter it again. Check your mail for the links.

What you've suggested is that we've found something that we can detect which is faster than light.

  • @MoonHeadJohn Alot of people are saying we will see a second sun in the sky in 2012 which is Betelquese exploding they claim!! So it is understood that it exploded over 600 years ago!!The light we see is telling us( even though it is over 600 yrs old )that the star is dieing and could explode at any time! So whats so hard for you to understand?Or are u just a jerk for fun?

  • @123456wasp Either you're reading my comments and misunderstanding everything or you're trying to wind me up.

  • i know that will sound stupid but i have a dreams when i was 6 years old abaot star which exlodes in the night, we see mostly light elipsed shape the sound was not so strong. its vierd

  • I hope we will see this!!! But, did u think about bad sides of this supernova? Mybe that can be deadly for us?

  • certainly before 2012...

  • It will explode in 2011may,maybe the end of May(29,30,31)but...

  • Hey wait a minute... my friend's name is Orion =D

  • Betelgeuse is the most popular star in the Universe why let it die (well we can't help it but God can)?

  • @halomaster22323 let it die because new stars will form from the supernova explosion and it will be a spectacular sight

  • @halomaster22323

Just for the record: there IS no God. Hadn't you noticed?

  • @pauladriaenssens that is just your opinion. everyone believes in what they want . i think God exists. see? diferent opinions .. :P

  • I saw my mother die. She didn't look like beetle juice any.

  • @pauladriaenssens And what did you do to help her?

  • Yes, true. This is great. Thanks. I can't wait anymore... :P

  • Hello everybody. I wonder when Betleguese will be supernova? Where can I find more information about this event or more information about this star? Thanks

  • strange ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,news papers told that betelguese was turnin into a super nova in about 2 days

  • this is simulation ?

  • i would give anything to be able to see this happen! its insane to think that it could have already happened hundreds of years ago, and we are actually looking at a star that doesnt even exist anymore!

  • I think some people are confused. Some astronomers are saying that Betelgeuse has ALREADY exploded, but it's finally reaching the point where we might see it, after 640 years of it's original death.

  • The scientists do not know when the star will go super nova. They just don't know. Why do you prophets of doom insist on making it a catastrophic event for the earth? You don't know diddlely squat, so shut your pie holes and try to learn something.

  • and his shoulder of a hunter will be gone forever ...

  • I really dislike the ads with your video.

    .

  • ='( NO IT CAN'T BE I DON'T WANT BETELGEUSE TO DIE!!!!!

  • I believe Betelgeuse has already exploded and it doesn't affect us, but the astronomical thing is: WHEN are we going to see it!

  • its like this star try,s to stay together and have a very hard time doing so

  • PATHETIC! Hasn't this star already exploded? Nothing to worry about if it hasn't already it's not going to harm Earth anyways.

    DW! PEOPLE don't get scared.

  • i heard (or more read) that Betelgeuse should blow up in 2012 and we than have 2 suns at day and a day-like night :D

  • @funncubesde If it blows up in 2012 we won't see it another 640 light years...the light from star that we are seeing today is 640 light years old, so if it blows up we won't see it for another 640 light years.

Its a poor explanation but you should read into light years on wiki

  • @LOLMAN22 okok... some scientists think it blew up 1562 ok?

  • @funncubesde Like I said before the light from the star is 640 light year OLD we are looking at it as it was in the past just like everything else in the Universe. How the hell can a scientists speculate about it blowing up in 1562? Sound like bullshit to me

  • @LOLMAN22 so you don´t think that they could watch the surface of that star? They did and found out that super hot bubbles of gas are it´s surface, and that indicates that it´ll soon blow up... that light, that they see, and which comes from that bubbles, is traveling at the same speed like the other light which took 640 years to come here. so it did that 640 years ago... in 1570... so when the light arrives here in 2012, it blew up in 1572. ah? get what i mean?

  • @funncubesde I took an astronomy course in university and I can tell you that astronomers study the spectrum of light and the size of the star which tells exactly what type of star they are dealing with (size is most important, studying light is another topic). There are currently no telescopes powerful enough that can zoom into a neighboring star and look at its surface. You cannot tell what's going on with star right now and this due to the vastness of the universe :-)

  • @LOLMAN22 ok... but: for example: what is that in the video than... it couldn´t be fully made by a computer whithout any data. and i don´t beleve that anyone made a picture from a planet near the star and sent it to earth :D. and to the vastness of the universe: we have telescopes in space that can look to early quasars, why couldn´t they look to the surface of a star only 208pc away :D that makes no sense at all :D

  • @funncubesde The video shows a computer generated rendering of what MIGHT be happening on the star. BTW astronomers have good theories about star death and birth of a star, again this is based on the size of star, computer models and so on. Earth based telescopes can look at giant bodies such as nebula's, galaxies, galaxy clusters, big stars however they cannot see dwarf's, planets, or the surface of stars or surface of any particular body, they can only see BIG objects that emit alot of light

  • @LOLMAN22 sorry, 1572

  • @LOLMAN22 light year is a unit for length not time...

  • Knowing that the star is 420 light years away from us, doesn't that mean that it's actually already dead ?

  • Amazing!

  • 2012

  • When she goes though it WILL affect Earth. It will be brighter than the Moon, even visible in daylight...

  • @wcmi92 isn't true :p

  • just say Betelgeuese went Supernova today, we wouldnt know for another 425-430 years

  • Dear Betelgeuse, Thank you for being such a prominent part of our history and mythology. Fear not your stellar death, it shall arise new life in the form of stellar nurseries that you create.

    Love oRACLe

  • @ORACLE063

    or a black hole lol

  • If it blew it will peak at full moon brightness, which is kinda spectacular!

It will be the brightest SN we will ever encounter in near future due to its close proximity.

  • @Gattberserk It wouldn't just peak the moons brightness, it would peak the suns brightness in the middle of the day!

  • @ZedBazinga I'm an amateur astronomer. TWhat you've said isn't correct. It might be visible during the day, but it won't be any brighter than the moon is at night. Where did you hear this? It really isn't true... honestly. : )

  • @peterloohunt I'm pretty sure i know A LOT more than you.

  • @ZedBazinga Yes, you do think you know a LOT more than me.

  • @peterloohunt You're a retard. I KNOW more than you about Astronomy.

  • @ZedBazinga By the term 'retard' do you mean someone who has special needs? Like Downs Syndrome? My son has Down's Syndrome...

  • Do you despise people with special needs, ZedBazinga? Do you hold them in contempt? Or do you just mean I must be less intelligent than you, because I disagree with you?

  • My son read your post, and he says that you're a bully.
