The world mistakes the Soviet Union with "Russians" all too often. Yes Russians ruled the Soviet Union and played a key role in WWii, but it was the Soviet Army that fought the Germans, not just the Russians. Millions of people from 15 ethnicity's (under Soviet Union) fought and lost their lives. I think they deserve some credit. Especially the Armenians who were the only ones permitted to have a separate brigade, and always fought on the front lines.

Germany failed to mount its jet engines on heavy bomber/transporters instead of using them on the Me262 which few pilots could safely fly. WW2 was an AIR WAR, Hitler fought instead just like Napoleon, and he lost like Napoleon. Europe is still paying the price.

@Bawbb14 - The USSR certainly would have attacked Germany if the Germans didn't strike first. After the Finnish campaigns difficulties the Soviets knew they wouldn't be ready to take on the Wehrmacht for at least 2-3 years. Germans took their opportunity to strike first, even though they hadn't truly subdued Britain. My thanks to the Red Army to stand up to the Nazis, despite their tremendous losses.

@Ricokz Dday was june 1944, the soviet union was invaded june 1941, between those dates the red army faced the bulk strength of the wehremact alone. hitler favoured land forces, his air & sea forces were always intended to compliment the army. hence luftwaffe was tactical not strategic in hardware & command structure. stalin was not afraid of, or politically accountable for his losses, so the red army could have still taken berlin, just at even greater cost. 3/4 german military losses in east.

In western culture the role of Soviets in defeating Hittler was played down post 1950 due to cold war. Soviets blunted Wehremact at Kursk, it was just about time after that, Germany never had a sustainable offensive capacity after that.

You know in defense of Russia they had every right to hate the allied powers because in WW1 when they dropped out they had taken the most causulties of any allied power even at the end of the war but since they dropped out due to a political overthrowing of their government we took part of what is now poland and a lot of other land from them in the Treaty of Versalles.
