They said "Robert Englund does not want to do the movie". There is nothing to say they offered him the role of Freddy. If they did offer him the role the most likely would have tried to lowball him in which case he would have said no. Their choice of wording makes me think that they did not want him and gave him a half arsed offer that they knew he would not accept so that they would not look like complete arseholes. What I hated most about the remake is that they completely changed the plot, and made "Old" Freddy a completely stereotype child molester, instead of a child slasher. Damn. He was nominated for an Oscar for role Little Children and he stared in Watchmen and Shutter Island. Jackie is not unknown actor and he took on the role of the new Freddy Krueger because he himself is big fan of Freddy Krueger. Of course Jackie's Freddy is some what different from Roberts but darkness is back within the character.

The reason being it had a good story, the darkness of Freddy was back, they brought in a new idea that was original called Micro Naps. Jackies take on Freddy was amazing because brought back that original darkness that was seen in the original Freddy. Jackie was original he walked different and he talked different but darkness was back. I give the remake a 10 out of 10!

@spyrothedragon590 Theres actually two Texas Chainsaw Massacre films by Dunes theres The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginging 2006 both films were very successful and they sold rights to TCM to Lions Gate. Anyways the most succesful of all remakes they have made is A Nightmare On Elm Street 2010 which grossed 118 million dollars. So I would say the sequel will happen for sure because WB and Dunes are both happy with how much it grossed.

The remake shows Freddy's true origins without any censorship this time around.

If Robert did read the script, I don't blame him for not wanting to play the part..... he was a pedophile in the original, but they danced around the idea and didn't flat out explain it. This movie was straight in your face about it and tried to give Freddy some sympathy which he didn't deserve. I messaged Nancy Englund on Robert's official facebook account(Robert Barton Englund) considering that she runs it....and she said that Robert was never asked. Englunds Nightmare's saga raged in theaters back then & scared the hell out of viewers of all ages.

He was nominated for an Oscar for role Little Children and he stared in Watchmen and Shutter Island. @spyrothedragon590 Theres actually two Texas Chainsaw Massacre films by Dunes theres The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginging 2006 both films were very successful and they sold rights to TCM to Lions Gate. Anyways the most succesful of all remakes they have made is A Nightmare On Elm Street 2010 which grossed 118 million dollars. So I would say the sequel will happen for sure because WB and Dunes are both happy with how much it grossed.

Dunes signed with Warner Brothers for a three picture deal for Elm Street. A Nightmare On Elm Street Remake grossed 118 million dollars making it the second highest grossing Elm Street film out of the entire series. Dunes is working on FD5 and TMNT and they plan on making the Elm Street sequel very soon because Jackie is signed on for two more films.

Wes Craven himself admits that Freddy is in fact a child molester but back in 1980's he was not alllowed to say Freddy was child molester due to the rates board so they changed in script to just child killer so Wes had do 23 writes of script before it was approved by New Line. The remake shows Freddy's true origins without any censorship this time around.

@EeeJaie Wrong Robert England loves remakes he even said in a recent interview that feels horror remakes are importnat to the horror genere itself and that he feels honored that Jackie is playing Freddy now and that hes been fan of him forever. Also horror remakes have been around for almost ever there are 162 Dracula films and many those films are classics also Cape Fear is also a remake and its a classic and even Wes Cravens 1972 horror classic Last House On The Left is remake of Virgin Spring

If Robert did read the script, I don't blame him for not wanting to play the part..... he was a pedophile in the original, but they danced around the idea and didn't flat out explain it. This movie was straight in your face about it and tried to give Freddy some sympathy which he didn't deserve. I even heard he may or may not have been guilty and was simply out for revenge.....either way....just not as scary when you know the motives right off the bat.

@alphazoom He wasn't a paedophile in the original :S ... he killed them then they took away his persona really by making him a paedophile to try and make it more relevant and also took away Robert Englund' Freddy by making him scare the victim but not really doing it and making stupid punch lines, its a good move with visual effects and acting but if their going to recreate the whole series which I think they will, they are going to need to step it up and really listen to the people.

Furthmore Robert Englund's character referred to Nancy as nothing but " bitch", having complete disrepect for all his victims. 85% all of his lines were punch lines after killing off the characters. That of which made his character (Freddy of course) personal, and concrete as the main antagonist. The oringinal was pure story, close group of freinds, even the parents themselves all being drawn into background as the story unfolds. This remake showed NO BONDS with characters, like the original

OKAY HERE'S THE THING SERIOUSLY: Robert Englund is in his 60s now probably, that's fine. FOR THE DEAR SWEET LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY. When a film is being REMADE, Why not dot it SCENE TO SCENE. How hard is that? The flim PSYCHO was remade, and SCENE TO SCENE. Yep Bates hotel was scene to scene. And actually a really good film cuz of it. Now it seems every director(rob zombie) wants to give the antagonist emotion, and pity for having it tough ,THAT'S NOT WHAT THE FUCKING ASPECT WAS !!

@shredmaster380 The remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street was scary as hell and it was amazing it also got the second place for the highest grossing Elm Street film ever made next to Freddy Vs Jason. It was the best remake ever made! Jackie Earle Haley is also signed for two sequels. :)

danthetinman - check out your facts. They didn't refuse Wes Craven input. They actually dont have anything to do with who works on the movie as an associate. Wes Craven already declined any involvement from before the directors were even involved with directing the film. And if you read Robert Englunds autobiography last year, the man himself says that FvJ was his swansong and he wont be doing anymore Nightmare films
