It seems to me that anyone who has fought such a long and hard fight against mental illness as he has would have immense wealth to draw from for song lyrics. In a documentary i saw once, it was revealed that he actually was REALLY crying in that scene, so its completely genuine and not acted out.

He seems like a good man that just had major problems with Depression as i once did myself and so do many others, but of course in losing Heather Graham it would have pushed his depression to breaking point.

I read an article online that talked about the reason why he and Heather Graham broke up is partly because he had a CRAZED stalker that was causing so many problems, breaking into his house, etc. and that he and Heather had to move. It was very taxing on their relationship & he was very depressed during this and the relationship ending made it much worse, thus the song being written.
