Collins suffered permanent brain damage from the fight and later died in a suicidal car wreck.
@90038jhon 500 dollars a week for working as a non-skilled worker full time in 2011 is good. For putting your ass on the line against Howard Davis everyday? 500/week is slim.
@brwnsxyslm Well it was the early 80's so yea inflation definitely made that more money back then. Still, wasn't good enough for him to wanna stick around lol. I wouldn't be surprised if we did the math and Pryor was making less to spar with Davis back then, compared to what a guy like Ray Beltran is making to spar with Pacquiao. 500 bucks back then, is roughly 1000 bucks today. Keep in mind 500 for unskilled work a week, is considered decent at least, and Boxing takes far more skills to do.
@ThePresident45 WOW...that's an ALL-TIME dogfight right there. Chavez might have the advantage because of his body punching...but Pryor...man, you had to KILL The Hawk to beat him. That said, I hate that his moment (this fight against the legendary Arguello) was tarnished by the fucking scumbag Panama Lewis.
Pryor was one of the alltime greats as was Arguello. I do believe from following boxing from 1971- present that Leonard didn't really want to fight Pryor. It was a big risk for him.
@77777johnnybravo Leonard had a career full of risky fights Duran, Hearns and Benitez.... just to name a few. Had Pryor not cheated during this bout, who knows what the outcome would have been?
@itsabird no he was describing fairly accurately what Aaron pryor and his entourage were like back then, jeez why is there always someone who tries so hard to spot racism they see it when its not there?
I like what Angelo says; to paraphrase "he lives in the moment" not in who woulda coulda won. We can argue until a cow jumps over the Moon. One thing is for sure The Hawk is one of the greatest. Alexis Arguello was and still is my favorite fighter of all time ... he fought in a time when titles meant something in boxing .... RIP Alexis Arguello
ye lol definitely addictive, its mostly because of the analysis that these so called experts make is so interesting and full of side effects, they always use the words like "ive never seen anything like this bla bla" that it catches your attention immediately
Aaron Pryor would have KO'd Leonard, Hearns, Duran and Pacquiao. I have never seen a fighter like this guy. Leonard avoided him like bubonic plague, he beat Hearns as an amateur, he called out Duran and he ran the fastest 40 ever. Nobody wanted to fight him. The dude was something else. Arguello was the only one that had the guts and paid the price. Pryor was the man...
R.I.P.: Alexis Arguello; Arturo Gatti; Vernon Forrest; Edwin Valero; Diego "Chico" Corrales; Trevor Berbick; Leavander Johnson; Julian Letterlough; Yermek "Kazakh Tyson" Serikov, etc., etc. These tragic deaths, unfortunately, in one way or another prove that if you live by the sword, you will die by the sword. There's no other reason I can think of for the clear, undeniable tragedy that defined, and will continue to define, so many fighters.

U guys make me laugh. I faugh ametuer here in southerCALI with all your fellow filipinos. Pac is a once in a lifetime occurance. My ametuer record was 22-1(DQ) but I got into baskietball. BTW FUCK YOU, 14 of my wins were against bitches like you, Pinoys who thought they could fight.
@gioDMP youre smoking crack this fight probably would have gone to cards and probably a draw. 2 different styles of fighters, with pryor having maybe more endurance since back then boxing went 15 rounds.
@gioDMP cannot thumbs this up enough, my man. Pac fans are seriously drunk on freddy roach's ability to choose fighters to face Pac when they’re not dangerous anymore. They need to recognize that Pac is not that technically sound of a fighter. he's has gotten much better with the sweet science over the past few years, but there is no possible way that Manny could take down Pryor in his prime. NEVER
@gioDMP It is kinda redundant to compare the two now, but Pac’s fans need to understand the fight game before they terrorize every single video on YouTube tagged with the word “Boxing.”
@gioDMP manny pacqauio is one of the greatest fighters to ever live ever exper says and just like emaunel stweart said pacqauio is a top 5 all time great pryor or arguello arent
@cainepittman2 LMAO, if you know anything bout boxing you will know that pac's opponents have been handpicked, he has not faught anyone at their weight since the diaz fight. Aside from that, slow fighters have been picked for him ever since the marquez fight. He has not faught a top contender in the last 3 years other than marquez and cotto(never the same after bein beat by margarito). If you are a TRUE boxing champ u will know that pac is all media hype. do some research retard.
@gioDMP ha ha ha bert sugare says pacqauio one of the greatest and emaunel steward said he one of the greatest and jim lampin said he is the best offensive fighter he has eever seen
@cainepittman2 I have idiot, didnt u read my earlier comments? i boxed all through out highschool. I had a good amateur record of 22-1(dq) stuck to football and basketball tho. but seriously, i wouldnt talk bout this shit unless i was in the ring. Your the one that prob has never boxed. or if u have boxed were never smart enough to understand this great sport.
@nicablackmamba PACs championships r meaningless after the featherweight division. he hasnt faught any TRUE champion and has faught for vacant belts at catchweights. Wich means he never won a championship past featherweight at the respected weight. aside from that, cherrypicked opponents coming off losses does not impress me. Pryor wouldve raped pac and so wouldve arguello who was a stronger and faster counterpuncher than marquez. Please, learn bout boxing. dont just go by wat the media tells u
@gioDMP i agree nobody would 'destroy' but pacman would have beat him and is a better fighter. he's quicker, better footwork, hits harder and stamina is just as good. (plus he's not the cheat that pryor was)
@cv003799 actually, pac may have the same stamina and speed than pryor but in no way hits harder, has better footwork, has better defense, or chin. I see through pac, he has not fought good opposition since marquez. He has fought big NAMES, but thats all they are, names. Pac has never fought someone that hits as hard as arguello. I blame it on Arum, he protects his cash cow and avoids prime fighters for pac ever since marquez almost beat him in their last fight. Prime Pryor would win UD or KO.
@gharyu wow, you obviously know nothing about boxing. C'mon, Pacman is great, a soon to be legend, but not at the level of Arguello or Prior. Pacman is not complete - doesn't have a good defense nor is he intelligent - and I guarantee you that if he continues to fight into his late thirties, he will be getting stopped; he's like a Roy Jones Jr who can make mistakes in his prime but b/c of a supreme athletic abilities. Prior and Arguello were complete fighters
Check this out. AARON PRYOR would have anihilated Pacman, Floyd and everyone else that ever was a champ at 140 pounds except Ray Robinson. Aaron had no real weaknesses. Great stamina, Great chin, akward hit you from any angle style, punching power and the HEART and WILL to wanna kill you after you hit him hard. Thats why the best of his time Ducked and Dodged him. Leonard, Hearns, Duran didnt even stop at 140 cuz he knew what was up. I feel bad Pryor never got his chance against them.
@BOMDOM50 I bet duran wouldve faught him but he was chasing leonard, hearns, and hagler. Besides, I think going up to middleweight to fight hagler was braver than fighting pryor at 140. And hagler was a bad motherfucker.
But I know for sure leonard dodged pryor and I know 100 percent pryor wouldve fucked him up. Gotta give it up for arguello tho, he had the biggest balls to fight this man...TWICE lol.
They have wight divisions so the height would be fair. Imagine if 6 ft 4 Muhammad ali fought Ray leonard in a heavyweight fight. Ray would have to balloon up to make the weight. Alexis was one skinny dude thats how he made the weight. Pryor didnt want to ballon up to make welterweight so he stayed. Ray was the right height for Welterweight.
Leonard coulda beat'm. It wasn't so much about his record as it was about money. He wanted Pryor to get big before they fought. Just like he did with Hearns.
I love Leonard's face when Pryor says "Mr. Leonard".
Seriously though, Leonard didn't want any part of Pryor. Pryor would have destroyed him. He had so much pent up frustration and anger, it would have been unleashed, like Hagler did against Hearns. A guy that keeps coming and throwing, a virtual windmill. Leonard would have had zero chance.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I would have loved to have seen the look on pryor's face when he had the nerve to actually turn down an offer from Leonards camp to give this chump a shot.Pryor's ex manager even admitted that he did.
Pryor sucked, his defense sucked,he struggled against Dujuan johnson and other medicore mandatories he was fighting.Leonard would have ripped him apart
No instead he fought Tommy Hearns who was 6'1" with an 78 inch reach with dynamite power and good speed at 147 who messed up his eye. If Pryor wanted Leonard he should have moved up to Welterweight, Leonard wasn't going to move down. But you know why he didn't? Because Pryor would be an undersized 5'6" Welterweight who really doesn't have the frame to go to that weight class. Benitez, Leonard, Duran, Hearns, would all be waiting for Pryor, and he has no shot against them.
didnt u watch the segment he wanted to move up he jus said he jus beat the number one contender at 140 he got ntn to prove there so y cant i move up arron prayor was a beast he wouldve gave ray problems
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you just proved how retarded you really are when you came to such a conclusion from watching this.Leonard was a welterweight for starters,a weight class that pryor ducked.
Go ahead and tell me how great a star pryor was?
Go ahead and tell me how great a demand for a fight was?
Go ahead and tell give pryor's record as a welterweight
pryor was an overrated cheater who never had the guts to face a good fighter in his prime
watych the fight in between rounds...every round and pay very good attention you will see pryor 'snort' something held under his nose..i wish i could remember which round...but a friend of mine just watched and told me he saw it...no bullshit...check it out!
smelling salts. We find out in the Assault in the Ring with Resto that The bottle was mixed with an Asthma medication used to open up the lungs.....SO if you ever took a hit off your friends inhaler, that was what was in his mixed bottle
respectfully to you all...a friend of mine watched it and said he saw as i did that Pryor snorted whatever was in the capsule...snorted as in sucked up his nose...inhaled...you have to watch the fight closely in between rounds...wish i could remember the round..but pryor has a crowd around him when he does it..and still i think the state they fought in didn't allow smellin salts.
I have Pryor losing only to Chavez at 140 buy UD, but that's only due to Chavez's monstrous chin and Pryor's tendency to get knocked down (though never out).
BTW, R.I.P. Alexis Arguello. Legend and gentleman.

gioDMP 1 year ago
@gioDMP manny pacqauio is one of the greatest fighters to ever live ever exper says and just like emaunel stweart said pacqauio is a top 5 all time great pryor or arguello arent
cainepittman2 1 year ago
@cainepittman2 LMAO, if you know anything bout boxing you will know that pac's opponents have been handpicked, he has not faught anyone at their weight since the diaz fight. Aside from that, slow fighters have been picked for him ever since the marquez fight. He has not faught a top contender in the last 3 years other than marquez and cotto(never the same after bein beat by margarito). If you are a TRUE boxing champ u will know that pac is all media hype. do some research retard.
gioDMP 1 year ago
@gioDMP ha ha ha bert sugare says pacqauio one of the greatest and emaunel steward said he one of the greatest and jim lampin said he is the best offensive fighter he has eever seen
cainepittman2 1 year ago
@cainepittman2 Ofcourse they gonna say that, they work for HBO and their job is to hype their boxers. Make more money from idiots like you.

@gioDMP im a amutar boxer pacqauio is a great fighter have you ever even boxed
cainepittman2 1 year ago
@cainepittman2 I have idiot, didnt u read my earlier comments? i boxed all through out highschool. I had a good amateur record of 22-1(dq) stuck to football and basketball tho. but seriously, i wouldnt talk bout this shit unless i was in the ring. Your the one that prob has never boxed. or if u have boxed were never smart enough to understand this great sport.

@gioDMP im 14 years old im a boxer but i play football and run track

@gioDMP pacquiao would have raped pryor, pacquiao has won in 8 categories!, plus god knows how many fights he won cause panama lewis cheated for him!
nicablackmamba 1 year ago
@nicablackmamba PACs championships r meaningless after the featherweight division. he hasnt faught any TRUE champion and has faught for vacant belts at catchweights. Wich means he never won a championship past featherweight at the respected weight. aside from that, cherrypicked opponents coming off losses does not impress me. Pryor wouldve raped pac and so wouldve arguello who was a stronger and faster counterpuncher than marquez. Please, learn bout boxing. dont just go by wat the media tells u
gioDMP 1 year ago
@gioDMP i agree nobody would 'destroy' but pacman would have beat him and is a better fighter. he's quicker, better footwork, hits harder and stamina is just as good. (plus he's not the cheat that pryor was)
cv003799 6 months ago
@cv003799 actually, pac may have the same stamina and speed than pryor but in no way hits harder, has better footwork, has better defense, or chin. I see through pac, he has not fought good opposition since marquez. He has fought big NAMES, but thats all they are, names. Pac has never fought someone that hits as hard as arguello. I blame it on Arum, he protects his cash cow and avoids prime fighters for pac ever since marquez almost beat him in their last fight. Prime Pryor would win UD or KO.
gioDMP 6 months ago
@gharyu wow, you obviously know nothing about boxing. C'mon, Pacman is great, a soon to be legend, but not at the level of Arguello or Prior. Pacman is not complete - doesn't have a good defense nor is he intelligent - and I guarantee you that if he continues to fight into his late thirties, he will be getting stopped; he's like a Roy Jones Jr who can make mistakes in his prime but b/c of a supreme athletic abilities. Prior and Arguello were complete fighters
fsaari 1 year ago
Check this out. AARON PRYOR would have anihilated Pacman, Floyd and everyone else that ever was a champ at 140 pounds except Ray Robinson. Aaron had no real weaknesses. Great stamina, Great chin, akward hit you from any angle style, punching power and the HEART and WILL to wanna kill you after you hit him hard. Thats why the best of his time Ducked and Dodged him. Leonard, Hearns, Duran didnt even stop at 140 cuz he knew what was up. I feel bad Pryor never got his chance against them.
BOMDOM50 2 years ago
@BOMDOM50 I bet duran wouldve faught him but he was chasing leonard, hearns, and hagler. Besides, I think going up to middleweight to fight hagler was braver than fighting pryor at 140. And hagler was a bad motherfucker.
But I know for sure leonard dodged pryor and I know 100 percent pryor wouldve fucked him up. Gotta give it up for arguello tho, he had the biggest balls to fight this man...TWICE lol.

It would be interesting to see how Pacquiao would have handled Pryor but I'm sure the "Hawk" would have gobbled up Pacman.
He's just to much of a beast for today's light welterweights
Forget about hatton.he wouldn't be brave enough to step into the ring with him

Sugar ray Leonard dodged Pryor...

PRYOR IS A CHEATER
movieman7000 2 years ago
They have wight divisions so the height would be fair. Imagine if 6 ft 4 Muhammad ali fought Ray leonard in a heavyweight fight. Ray would have to balloon up to make the weight. Alexis was one skinny dude thats how he made the weight. Pryor didnt want to ballon up to make welterweight so he stayed. Ray was the right height for Welterweight.
ichirima 2 years ago 5
Leonard coulda beat'm. It wasn't so much about his record as it was about money. He wanted Pryor to get big before they fought. Just like he did with Hearns.

well pryors cornermen cheated for dat bottle crap end of story
JMBedolla 2 years ago
did you know there was a rematch?
Pryor's bondless energy would have overwhelmed Ray.
Don't forget Duran coming up from two divisions below, whipped Ray. So would Pryor
Piglatinsuperstar 2 years ago
remember guys leonard went up a wt class to get the hell away from pryor

Leonard was a coward.. He shoulda faced Pryor.. period...
camselle 2 years ago
Can't argue with that. Pryor went up and challenged Ray, the bigger man and Leonard turned him down
Piglatinsuperstar 2 years ago
why should he have faced him fat boy?
there was no demand for such a fight, pryor was a JWW and Leonard was a WW
Pryor was a coward for never moving up from the 140 division and actually fighting a elite fighter in his prime
MrPalspal 2 years ago
I love Leonard's face when Pryor says "Mr. Leonard".
Seriously though, Leonard didn't want any part of Pryor. Pryor would have destroyed him. He had so much pent up frustration and anger, it would have been unleashed, like Hagler did against Hearns. A guy that keeps coming and throwing, a virtual windmill. Leonard would have had zero chance.

MrPalspal 2 years ago
ray leonard was scared to death of arron prayor arron prayor wanted to fight ray as a pro and he did want kno part of it
P4PBEST 2 years ago 2
No instead he fought Tommy Hearns who was 6'1" with an 78 inch reach with dynamite power and good speed at 147 who messed up his eye. If Pryor wanted Leonard he should have moved up to Welterweight, Leonard wasn't going to move down. But you know why he didn't? Because Pryor would be an undersized 5'6" Welterweight who really doesn't have the frame to go to that weight class. Benitez, Leonard, Duran, Hearns, would all be waiting for Pryor, and he has no shot against them.
lorenzodemedici1 2 years ago
didnt u watch the segment he wanted to move up he jus said he jus beat the number one contender at 140 he got ntn to prove there so y cant i move up arron prayor was a beast he wouldve gave ray problems

you just proved how retarded you really are when you came to such a conclusion from watching this.Leonard was a welterweight for starters,a weight class that pryor ducked.
Go ahead and tell me how great a star pryor was?
Go ahead and tell me how great a demand for a fight was?
Go ahead and tell give pryor's record as a welterweight
pryor was an overrated cheater who never had the guts to face a good fighter in his prime

watych the fight in between rounds...every round and pay very good attention you will see pryor 'snort' something held under his nose..i wish i could remember which round...but a friend of mine just watched and told me he saw it...no bullshit...check it out!

smelling salts, they're legal in the sport
tommygunnisgod 2 years ago
smelling salts. We find out in the Assault in the Ring with Resto that The bottle was mixed with an Asthma medication used to open up the lungs.....SO if you ever took a hit off your friends inhaler, that was what was in his mixed bottle
KHLB516 2 years ago
respectfully to you all...a friend of mine watched it and said he saw as i did that Pryor snorted whatever was in the capsule...snorted as in sucked up his nose...inhaled...you have to watch the fight closely in between rounds...wish i could remember the round..but pryor has a crowd around him when he does it..and still i think the state they fought in didn't allow smellin salts.

I have Pryor losing only to Chavez at 140 buy UD, but that's only due to Chavez's monstrous chin and Pryor's tendency to get knocked down (though never out).
BTW, R.I.P. Alexis Arguello. Legend and gentleman.
