I am a white women I am a Fela friend. I lived in Kalakuta some time, Fela did not like to be compare to Bob Marley, also did not like to be compare .... Fela is Fela is unique
@soulsun100 you lived in Kalakuta republic????!!! How was it tell me anything you can please i am so very curious to know what your experience was like!
Associating ALL black women and africans with aids would be like me associating all white people with Ronald Regan alzheimers and eating feces. Stop the ignorance! Educate your mind WE ARE ALL HUMAN AND IF WE DON'T PROTECT OURSELVES WE CAN BE INFECTED WITH AIDS.

yay babA FELA HE EARNED THE NAME 'BABA' IS THIS THE SONG THAT GOT 'HIM' IN TROUBLE... I DONT BELIVE IT fela had sooo many songs against the govt..so do your hwork!!this is just one of the songs!!!
Biggest tune for fela, the one that got him into real trouble, this tune made things very uncomfortable for government of the day.viva nigeria the world's greatest people.
does anyone have a clear recording of MASS, CRFJJ, ASBOP, CONDOM SCALLYWAGY. will pay for them. Is Egypt 80 still together? Ani, show, kunle, Kay, Eewo etc. HMMMM...Pebble st was indeed a shrine!
Eleniyan was certainly something! and we all miss him and the shrine. But his legacy lives on in seun. Has anyone seen him lately? baba wey commot don return o! I remember in those days at the shrine when all seun sang was "lady". He is all grown up and when he performed in chicago in summer 2007, All I saw was fela. seun's dance steps, countenance, voice, demeanor etc were like his father's.

Baba 70, No other Musician can ever ever Replace your Spot in Africa, especially in Nigeria, it's unfortunate that we will miss you for ever physically but abami eda man lives forever spiritually, and am 100% sure that Obasanjo will never be a president of Nigeria again if you are still alive.
Fela Anikulapo Kuti AKA Abami eda Man, Baba 70, with all my Respect and all your Fans Respect Rest in Peace.
Friday nights: Jazz 38, nightclub on Awolowo Rd, Ikoyi, until 12a.m. Fela's performances showed his 'ajebota' side ('ajebota'- yoruba slang for person w/ westernized upbringing?) 12 a.m., Fela'd leave for the Shrine, his club in Ikeja. The audience would herd out after him to enjoy the real, raw, unfettered, god that Fela was. Sorry for those not lucky to see him in his element. Abami Eda lives on. He once said, "I can never die!" He never will.
The first time i visited the shrine, some friends on Raimi street in Surulere took me there. I made it a point after to attend his shows in Lagos and I was his last show at the Apollo theater NYC. The man was great oh! A musical genius, a grass roots leader, and African Ambassador. I still miss him oh...
Fela is the ultimate musician in the same mold as Bob Marley no doubt not just in Africa but the World over. RIP "bami eda"...OBJ well...nothing to say to you..
so happy my life was able to cross the music of this man. It, my life that is, has certainly been heavily shaped by it. My thoughts and dreams altered by it. When I am sixty I am sure I will have the same appreciation.
for those you africans who understand music and its theory, you ll see that this guy is one blessing to Nigeria . unfortunately theres no replacement for him .
There will never be another Fela, but there are American bands like Antibalas, Aphrodesia, Eufoprquestra and Albino! who are helping to keep his legacy alive.
What a great man. Fela is a role model. Thank you for the show, and thank you Fela for the beautiful song. I have been listening to Fela for 15 years, maybe more, and his music never wears out. He was a brave man unafraid to speak for the out for the people in an oppressive regime despite the severe consequences - which he did suffer. His lyrics are powerful and true. If only we could all care so much about each other as he did.
Arararara eeee.Fela is a Legend. He lives on... Omo Iya Aje,Ogostin,OgoImado... many names for Fela @the shrine, pepple street,Ikeja,Lagos.Anoda fela no fit dey... R.I.P. Baba 70.
Yes, Fela was a great musician, but we must look beyong just the rhythm. He was trying to tell us about what was going to Africa. His prophecy is well and alive today. All hail the king!!!
I hated Fela growing up. I was young, did not understand him or his music or style. Then I dated this Nigerian girl who was into Fela, and it changed my whole perspective on music. I then went to my uncle who was also a huge fan and he gave me a tape that I listened to death and in 1984, I ws hooked forever. Live on Fela, we miss your music. If only you where alive today, Obasanjo would have been pissing in his pants.
It was nearly summer in 1988, this song had not yet been released and Fela was performing a live concert in University of Ibadan. He refused to sing "Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense" cos he never performs a recorded Album and opted to give us a taste of the future. BONN hit us like a wave and we went soft in its suave & rythmic massage. I miss him!!
aaah.....what memories this song bring!!. I am absolutely carried away in nolstagic fevour and euphoria just listening to Fela's song - (BONN:Beast Of No Nation).
Fela is the founder of Afrobeat. It is an African style of music that is based from James Brown's soul and funk. Fela also drew from jazz and Nigerian highlife music. Fela took on political issues and corruption in the Nigerian government. Fela became a cult figure throughout the world. He achieved international status. His music is so profound. His name still compands repect and honor.
why did Fela die so soon, infact why is it that geniuses who affect us faster and better like Nestar Marley, Tosh, etc die so early in life...Baba Forever
In Nigeria and all around the west coast of africa, fela was and is still being regarded as the father of the people because he represented the masses, was for the people and certainly died for the people, forget what the media said about H.I.V and stuff,it was a well planned propaganda by the late dictator(sunny) and his fellowers
A true visionary who 20 years ago was informing Nigerians through his music that we are heading nowhere. Listen to what he has been saying and compare it to what is happening now in Africa as a whole.
Fela's up on iTunes, if you look. Not an exhaustive collection, but a good place to start. I've been a fan since picking up tapes from a vendor in Ibadan, and seeing him at the Kilimanjaro in DC in the 90's.
That is a forever classic baba tune,im an avid baba fan and collect a lot of his stuff, how can i lay my hands on those picture/paintings,the are lovely.
