  • Outstanding!! Gen. Chesty Puller would be damn proud!!!

  • I don't understand why ppl are bashing on the M14 and M16 rifles. Their both great American guns. You all should be bashing on the AK owners =).

  • I can't believe the testosterone that makes people defend their particular brand of rifle like it's a religious icon. I hear the same kind of thing when people get rabid about what a good combat handgun a 9MM is, heck, a politician got drilled through her head with one and is still with us! There is just so much BS out there masquerading as ballistic wisdom. Maybe we should go to a .17 for combat? A needle at 5500 FPS? I'll take the .308 thanks.

  • Sorry guys, that's a "loaded" version of the M1A. Nation Match rifles start with NA, not MA. Great rifle though.

  • You just have to love A Place to Shoot.

  • was that a failure to feed at 30 seconds?

  • Jesus that is not a match.. National Matches don't have you shoot at steel the size of trucks...

  • @mrmidnight32 That was pretty funny. It was a short profile I was doing on the rifle, not my shooting skills. I assure you if I were to complete a video on my own shooting ability with open sights it would have been a different type of video.

  • @mag30th Oh I thought you meant this was a m14 at a national match.. I was like I have never seen a match shooting at rough cut steel plates 5' x 5' lol

I didn't know you were referring to the M1a NM rifle. My bad

  • @mrmidnight32 All good, no prob.

  • WOW! The camera actually caight the corriolis at :22 and :26 seconds.

  • how accurate is an m1a national match if i used match grade ammo? im in the market for a light .308 semi atuo but not an ar.

  • you can see the vapor trail when you zoom out, nice

  • @EarnanOMaille The accuracy of an M1A/M14 depends on the thickness of the barrel, the shooters ability, the ammo being used, etc. Could I hit that target from that far away with Iron Sights? Probably not, I havent had alot of practice with my irons.

  • Anyone that says the M14/M1A isnt as accurate as a bolt action .308 is lying through their teeth. A sniper in Vietnam took out a VC Sniper that was in a tree, from a boat moving down the river from 900 meters/yards.

  • how many MOAs does the national match has mate ???

  • m1a are so bad ass

  • No M16 or anything else surpasses for practical range and accuracy like M1A/M14/M21 with Sierra 168 HPBT bullets. I have SA UltraMatch and my backyard doesn't look like that!

  • Nice shooting. What all do you shoot mostly. I wanna get my Ruger .22 target pistol and try to shoot some comp. but I can't join any teams cause im only 16. And the only rifle me or my dad has that could shoot comp. is my 870 Express, my dads M4 carbine, and maybe my .308.

What were you shooting? and do you know how much the bullet dropped?

  • no need to run you'll only die tired... Nice shooting m8.

  • you shoot too fast! you could do much better, but very impressive

  • being able to shoot that far without a scope is really impressive.

The aperture sights on that thing are pretty good though, much better than my Mauser's.

  • The average GI in Vietnam could hit a VC at 600YRDS.

Either way. I bet you couldn't do it and i know for a fact i couldn't.

  • @hailholyghost with an M1A with proper NM sights, up to 600m with irons is possible on man sized targets.

The national match sights have very thin blade sights and the radius on these guns is long =)

perfect for hitting big plates at long distances.

  • What moa size groups does it shoot at 100 yards

  • @diderr01 national match 2-3 MOA, sometimes 1 MOA with proper ammo.

Super Match and M21 tacticals will do .5 with proper ammo!

  • @daemonite06 2-3 MOA is as poor as an ak-47. Maybe, your talking about an old, shot out barrel, surplus gun but a new m1a should doe 1 MOA and a match M1A with a match triger and barrel will do .5 MOA without match ammo.

  • @ajohnson Put the same money into an AR15 and it will be twice as accurate. The last time the Army and Marines met at camp perry the guys with the M16A2s kicked the shit out of the M14s. look it up it's public record.

  • @semiautoriflelover $1,800 put into an M16A2s probably is more accurate then the m14/m1A. However, your talking about a different caliber. Why not the AR10?

  • @ajohnson i've fired a M110 sniper rifle basically a AR-10 in .308, I was putting 10 shots in under 1" many groups of 5 were 1/2". They are now allowed to use this and the SR-25 in service rifle shooting matched, free floated hbar barrel will crush the M14 in accuracy.

  • @semiautoriflelover Ya I know that the AR10 is both lighter and more accurate then the M1A, and I own one for those reasons. Mine shoots .5 moa with cheap Wolf .308 win. ammo. However, others could argue that the M1A's piston operated action is better then the direct impingement system because it doesn't crap where it eats. I think both guns are awesome but I like the AR10 better.

  • @semiautoriflelover The M110 is also a $27,000 gun. It had better be really, really accurate. Hell, the regular SR-25 is overpriced for what it is.

  • "With a scope I get consecutive hits. I MOA at 100m"

Are you sure you are calculating that correctly... usually only special target rifles are capable of 1MOA even at 100m.

You do know it is only considered a proper group for 10 shots.

I mean you could fire 2 shots of a smooth bore musket and by chance the two bullets strike close to each other, measuring from the inside of each hole, you now have a 1 MOA... smoothbore musket?!? The same principal for 3 shots, only 10 shots eliminate chance.

  • Whoa!

15 rounds inside 1 inch, that IS super accurate, especially for an AK.

You have to post a video response of that as I have never heard of an AK, even a super modified one with the absolute best match grade ammo getting anything better than about 2 MOA.

I mean the SR25 was specifically designed for the sniper role and only barely gets 1MOA in accuracy.

    Please, video. Must see.

  • Lemme rephrase: 12 in an inch & 3 fliers 6" off

on good days I get about 1 3/4" or 2 1/4", as I said I'm not an excellent shot and've never claimed to be. My cousin did so well because he was a rifleman expert in the Marines.

I leave my accuracy up to my Mosin-nagant, Browning A-Bolt, or my Mauser.

I've got a video from that day but the camera quality was so bad you couldn't see anything at all. It may have just been luck that day, but with a scope I know I can hit a 12" plate every time.

  • Well, I'm from the school of thought that there are no such thing as "fliers" every shot is an indication of the weapon's true accuracy. There is such a thing as outliers but only about 1% of data can be dismissed as outliers, not 3 out of 15 (20%).

I'm getting confused when you talk about getting 1.75 to 2.25 inch groups on "good days", that's more like a 2 inch group but didn't you say 1 inch earlier?

Anyway, 12" is chest wide so in case you ever need to it's effective out that far.

  • I wasn't the one who made the 1" groupings. Hope i clarified that.

  • BTW; I'm going to remove a few comments before some cocky Ar owner decides to get into a big argument over which is beter.

    It's happened before. Not pretty.

  • Yeah, shame when that happens.

I am an owner of neither, used to shoot .22 and occasionally .303 but shooting in the UK is a right pain in the neck with all the government restrictions.

I'm just interested because I can't just go out and find out for myself.

  • There may be some error in the math (regarding MOA)..... but the M1A Super & National Match rifles are very accurate. The M1A series is still used by military sharp shooters and police snipers (as well as some SWAT teams who use the socom version).

  • spacewuk, I'm afraid we got a bit off topic as I was replying to goodspittin as he made claims of a 1 MOA AK47... not an M1A or M14.

I understand M1A is very accurate but it was designed to be, the AK47 never gave as much design consideration to accuracy.

  • You say you can hit 12" plate @ 300m w/ AK47...

How many shots can you get hitting in a row? Or is it like only 1 out of every 5-10 shots?

12" plate can represent a 12" to 17" wide group (consider diagonal width) which at 300m is 3.6MOA to 5.1MOA but that is only IF you can get 10 hitting in a row.

If only 10% of your shots hit at all, that would mean the effective group is many feet wide.

  • lol u need about 1200-1500 bucks man

  • Don't remind me. I'm going today to see if I can get one on layaway.

  • you need alot more than that today for an M1A, and even if you got the money, good luck finding one to buy, took me six months and i found it on GunsAmerica . com, i got a "loaded" one, I love It

  • Trying doing that w/ M16...NOT!!!

  • I did, but it is at 650 yards, not 420. It is posted under my handle.

  • @wddenis3 This is an ignorant statement, the military is trained to shoot 1000 meters with a M16/M4. 1 meter = 3 foot 3 inches. You do the math, it's over 1000 yards.

  • @Kookieb27 i don't know what military your talking about but we train to shoot 300 meters at point targets. the maximum effective range is around 1200-1300 meters i think but we never train on max effect.

  • @thompson8305 Army Rangers

  • @Kookieb27 your saying your a ranger? i highly doubt it. where's the school at than? and at any rate, the rangers, special forces, airborne, they probably don't use m16's. they get the better shit. m4's are still in. what is the military's primary weapon than if not the m4? m16 still technically is, it's getting phased out.

  • @wddenis3 ummmm... are you an idiot? The M16 can handle WAY further distances. You should probably study up before you criticize an amazing weapon like the M16. I have shot, with my 14.5 inch barreled M4, and gotten countless hits on a 600 yard gong at my gun club. And if you don't believe me, I would love to enlighten you and make a video of it.

  • @GunFreak270 but heres the thing is it lethal at that distance nope.

  • @armypenguin it can punch through an army helmet at 500 yards. every firearm adopted by the US military requires that it do just that. Also, it's all about shot placement. like every other gun under 50 BMG

  • @GunFreak270 yeah punch through a helmet that doesn't mean its lethal in fact that tells you that its designed to pierce armor which means against unarmored targets its much less effective. M16 is an ok rifle for under 300 yards out past that not really effective unless using for soft targets expanding rounds or for hard targets AP ammo. Now what percent of troops that our soldiers are fighting that wear armor somewhere between 0 and 1.

  • @armypenguin I think you are thinking of the AK-47

  • @GunFreak270 nope definately talking about the M16 the AK is lethal out to 500 yards when using the same idea ammo that we use right now in M16s. There is no way that someone can argue that the 5.56 at any long range distance beats a .308. Now when you factor in gun weight ammo weight ease of use of firearm etc the M16 definately comes out on top for the lower grade troops we put out of bct. I'm going by ammo being issued right now if you wanted to get more specific theres much better ammos.

  • @armypenguin the .308 DOES beat the 5.56 in long range performance. But 5.56 is lethal 500 yards, in.

  • @GunFreak270 5.56 is lethal with the correct type of ammo and correct target (because not every shot is a headshot it doesn't matter that it can penatrate a steel helmet at 500 yards) The ball ammo we use right now has near 0 expandibility (which according to the geneva convention is how it should be) but because we are not fighting people with body armor our ammo goes in the one side out the other (assuming it doesn't hit a large bone and bounce) What i'm saying is we need to get expanding ammo

  • @wddenis3 dont knock ARs... i have never missed a 300m qual with my trusty GI colt m4 with 14.5" barrel and 1/7 twist

  • @brojsimpson11b the AR15s kick the ass of the M14s at camp perry, free floating barrels win out. The cost is also 3 times as much to accurate up a M1A/M14.

  • @wddenis3 ha ha, he was ripping a new one with the AR15A2, 650 ha ha. give him a 6.5 Grendel AR15 and some nice iron sights and 1000 yards would sing like a canary.

  • @wddenis3 You could definitely do that with a good AR-type rifle. They're very accurate, at least as accurate as any M14-type rifle.

  • @wddenis3 easily done. point target for M4 is 500 m. FOR SDM course we engage out to 500m with ACOG. marines qualification range goes out to 500m as well. however the M14 is a sweet rifle

  • I fucking love this video! U R king

  • iron sights = real man

  • O.o

  • 420 yards? Damn sir you are a hell of a shot. There are people who can't shoot that well with top of the line scopes, let alone with irons. I am thinking of saving my pennies and getting an M1A, I was thinking of the standard or the loaded. They run for quite a bit up here in Canada.

  • Get a Norinco made, if you live in Canada.

  • I was considering that. I heard they shoot pretty well, and if you replace some of the parts they can be almost as good as a M1. But I am a long way from having enough cash to get one so I have plenty of time to think it through.

  • I hear ya. I know how sometimes you can just want a firearm so much, but don't have the cash at the time. I'm very fortunate for what I have.

Norinco M 14's are almost as good as the Springfield M14's.

  • Till something breaks. They are METRIC and SA parts don't fit.

  • NO. Do not buy Norinco as it is bastard metric and steel parts are of indeterminate hardness.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • Super fun, I shot a Springfield 308 at the range today. I think the guys just wanted to see a girl shoot it, lol!

  • Rifle glory saying this is another cool video. hope to see more.

  • Looks like fun

  • great shooting, you can kindof see bullets flight path.

  • aiming at the rock or the black thing on the rock? and if the black thing... did u have to climb up there and set it up?

  • I usually include more of the details about the range in my videos; I should have included it here. The is at the A Place to Shoot shooting range in Saugus California, the red metal plate is a 24 inch wide plate posted exactly at 420 yards from the shooting bench.

  • cool rifle. is the national match a 22 inch barrel? i could have sworn i saw a 26 inch stainless once... time to get another before obamacans ban them... such bullshit..

  • @STORM6490MT

I have a super match. It's a bit more then the regular NM It's a 22" SS barrel. It also has the unified gas system hooded half MOA windage and elevation adjustments. I believe that is the only difference.

  • great shooting

  • some accurate shit... that thing in the vid is without the scope... imagine that with the 6x12 scout scope...

  • Nice shooting, hope I can still get an M1A in the future.

  • Nice shooting with the iron sights. How big is that plate?

  • Thanks! 24 inches wide.

  • wow no need for a scope there haha pure marksmanship

  • i paid $2200 for my M1A NM in Fl of '08

i'm doing head shots at 100 yds stock sights

not bad at 45 without my reading glasses i guess, but i don't want to guess when the real time comes!

does anyone know what scope would be perfect for this rifle that is under $1000 or less?

i want mx ef rng distance

  • Leupold VX-III

  • That's what I was going to recommend as well, damn good scope for the money.

  • thats badass with iron sights i have 20/20 and im pretty sure doing that will proll give me a headache

  • I was hog hunting in florida I had my m1a with me. At 450 yards I drop that pig in one shot. The ammunition I was shooting was federal premium if i had mil ammo I would have proubly missed.

  • that target looked pretty much high up the hill. how many clicks up did you dial your rear sight?

  • The match ammo drops much differently than Mil ammo, if I recall at this 420 yard target it was set for about just over 300 on the elevation.

  • great shootin, hey i just got the same rifle, i want to scope it but i dont know whats a good scope...plz help

  • How much do you want to spend? for ones $100-$200 bsa works pretty well, for better ones that are way more expensive just go to cabelas or a sporting goods store.

  • If you really want a good scope look at Leopolds and redfields but if not then bsa is ok

  • Nightforce scopes are great too, but expensive. You get what you pay for, don't skimp on glass. Leupolds are also battle proven.

  • Having said that, great job with the iron sights.

  • a good scope is a leopold or a nikon i would get a 3-9x50 but they are on the expensive side. But that is just my opinion.

  • looks like so much fun, even if i got last id still have alot of fun.

  • ya need to pain ya target white 5/5

  • better go head and do that. i dont know where yall from but here in SAN ANTONIO firearms are going up in price considerably. i just ORDERED my LOADED M1A @ $1800. i found that to be reasonable since some used ones i saw and some standard m1's were in the same price range!!! hopefully i get her soon and i will post some vids... tc

  • This is the national match model, eh? I wanna get me one! I heard they were around $1800-$1900 though! If they are $1900, I'mma be pissed!

  • better fess up to that price range for one. 0r get you some knock off junk and be really upset

  • I will have to get myself a M1A one of these days...

I like the squad scout model. WAY out of my price range though. I'll stick to the SKS for now and keep dreaming.

  • Hey I can hit a two feet target at 500 meters without too much difficulty using my SKS with open sights. With a 4X scope it becomes almost too easy.

  • Good deal! I profile my rifles, all types, on the same range, all at 420 yards to give it perspective. Personally I prefer open sights also.

  • I have nothing the SKS either. I was punching 2" five shot groups at 100 yards. Definitely more accurate then they are reputed to be.

  • Exactly! I don't know why so many people dump on them... Mine has a folding stock, Wolff springs, front grip and red dot sight. Cheap rifle but I have a blast shooting it.

  • Just have a bog standard Yugo M59/66 here. Has some trouble firing Wolf ammo (needs a new valve). I want to put a TechSight rear aperture on it with a thinner front post. Drop in a new CNC valve and I should be good to go. *thumbs up*
