The sream was the famous and infamous "Wilhelm Cry".

'ts in use since about half a century.

BTW, that spot was the totally wrong spot in the movie to institute this cry (it's rather a comedy cry, it was shouted by a cowboy called Wilhelm, when was shot in the ass by an indian).
