@silverslayer7 awe thank you so much for your kind words! I hope you get to visit FL sometime and see Ginnie Springs, it's truely one of the most beautiful natural places on this planet! You could call it the fountain of youth!
This is near where my Dad lives. I hope he doesn't find out. He is not cave trained and I think he would want to try anyway. I found out today that someone whom I corresponded via email with hoping to get a dive buddy and learn from, who was an EXPERIENCED cave/rescue diver, passed away in Jan from decomp issues after diving here at Eagles Nest. Never knew of this place. I know my limits. I don't push them much underwater. I will never go in a cave if I cannot see surface light.
@CocacolaCowboy1919 Your very smart, anyone who wants to dive in a cavern, cave or overhead environment should get training. Usually accidents happen with divers that are untrained or go beyond their limits. This is a very deep, technical cave dive, if your dad wants to dive here I can recommend a lot of cave instructors in your area that he can seek training from and maybe someday dive here. Until then stay safe and keep enjoying the underwater world!
@BeckyKagan Guess what...my Dad and I went to Hudson Grotto, and some tech divers were there talking about Eagles Nest...my dad doesn't get it. IT IS TECH DIVING I keep telling him to look it up. Does he not look up the videos I tell him to? IDK> All I know is I am not going and I'll tell his wife if he tries to go. I really don't understand what his issue is.

Hey! Gr8 video,i'm facinated by underwater cave diving yet really don't think i could do as i'm quite claustraphobic!! Do u ever panic in certain situations and how do you cope with it? Really interested to find out.....Keep posting!!:)
@JAMZ862000 Thanks for your comments! Training is very important and panic is not an option in a cave. If you panic you die its that simple. Diving in any overhead environment you have to be able to deal with situations when they arise and they will. You take baby steps and don't go beyond where your comfort is. A lot of caves are actually very LARGE so claustraphobia isn't an issue and if it is unfortunately caves aren't for you =) Its a lot of years of training and practice!
I don't cave dive or tri-mix so thank you for this video so that I can see places I know I will never go. For 240p that was real good video thanks again for posting.
I have always wanted to learn to dive......i've read alot about it.....but classes are hard to find here thank you so much for sharing this....it's a beautiful video :)
you ever see skeletons of animals down there? and i mean the prehistoric kind? i would think there might be stuff down there, not as great as the labrea tar pits, but something?
@realistromeo There are a lot of fossils embedded in the limestone. I haven't seen any bones in this system but other caves you will often see amazing things.
The Eagle's Nest is awesome. We leveled off at the 75 feet tied a line and did a 360 degree sweep of the ball room. Saw catfish on the ledges I can truly say, its been top rated cavern dive for me.
becky i have a question i also dive but i don't do cave. if i wanted to when surfacing could i just take my airator as i like to call it out of my mouth and just swim kinda fast to the surface i have always wondered please write back
please forgive me but...are you joking? If your not I apologize but no. It doesn't matter what type of diving your doing you NEVER swim to the surface fast. You should have been taught that in your certification class. And why would you take your air source (regulator) out of your mouth???
@BeckyKagan It's called a CESA (Controlled Emergency Swimming Acsent) it descibes this process with taking the regulator out of your mouth and swimming up kinda fast. This should only be undertaken with an emergency situation though.
Correct there is something called an ESA taught in a basic class, but the regulator is always left in your mouth because you can potentially get another breath out of it as you ascend air expands. If it pertains to my video #1. Your in a cave so there is no direct access to the surface and #2. it is a deep dive 250-300 feet and decompression is needed so no fast ascents. If we are only talking about open water I still do not recommend a rapid ascent of any kind due to all of the risks involved.
Nope no air pockets, this cave is totally submerged. There are small air pockets from divers exhaust bubbles but nothing you could breathe safely. Mexico has a lot of air pockets.
maybe a stupid question from somebody who has no caveexperience at all.. but why is this considered the "mt. everest" of cave diving. As far as i know there are much deeper and/or longer cavesystems?
Not a stupid question. There are deeper and longer systems but to a lot of divers still die in this cave. its more of a past phrase from the 70's and 80's when 270' was extreme its the combonation of depth and distance that make it challenging. Some just have depth but are a sink hole, some places are long but fairly shallow. We are actually documenting a cave now that is long and over 400 feet deep.
Thank you very much for your reply. I'm only starting out with cavediving at the moment. Training mostly. Nothing fancy. So i can only dream of your new project. I wish you lots of fun and all the best with it tough ;)
Yes unfortunately, my thoughts go out to the family. They were not trained in cave diving or trimix and paid the ultimate price for that. They were diving on rebreathers but didn't have a lot of experience on them either. They didn't change their scrubber after doing 2 deep dives here. Please PLEASE don't dive any cave with out going through the proper training courses. Its not worth your iife. Training doesn't take long and you will learn a lot.
Hello Becky, My name is Byron and the diver that recently died in the cave was a good friend of mine. We had not talked in a while but I thought about him often. In the ninties we attended college together and we participated in many extreme sports. We did a lot of climbing and extreme white water canoeing, He sky dived and we both flew a little, We were both certified divers, but I never dove with him. As soon as I saw a kentucky diver had died, I knew that it was him, he was always.
Yes i helped shoot that episode on Dive Portal, i've actually never seen it LOL.
The drop is from 30ft to 70ft down the tube then at 70 it opens up into the ballroom and the debris cone is around 125' then drops off on both sides to 270 on one side and 210 on the downstream side.
Nice video. What is the temp of the water on the surface and below? I really enjoy seeing underwater video. Have you ever found evidence of ancient human existence in any of your cave dives?
Hey, I was watching discovery channel and I was like...humm...this person looks familiar....I think I might have seen her on youtube before. and what do you know, it was you =)

Yea I read the book in May, its called Raising the Dead in europe and they named it Diving into Darkness or something in the United States. One of the best diving books I've read. Bushmans is an extreme and incredible cave. I would also consider that the Mt. Everest...Sheck "was" very influential to cave diving and set many records and help set safety standards. JzigslovesJB, the cave has been dove since the 70's not sure who discovered it? I haven't seen any gators there, BIG turtles though. I'm sure there are gators though it is the swamp! I've seen gators in other springs around FL.
