  • this is one of my favorite MAGAZINE tracks pure and sheer genius what a massive sound (sound track to my life)

  • Magazine! My hero!

  • I saw these guys on Friday...brilliant.

  • Magazine ARE the Business! Awesome!

  • first time I heard this... This is how my brain feels when I am having a bad day at work or my wife is yelling at me for no apparent reason.

  • They should've been one of the biggest bands of the 70s/80s. There really is no justice in the world.

  • Sadly misunderstood in its day, this late 70s masterpiece sounds better than ever today.

  • BRAVO BRAVO

  • My fave all time magazine song. What a band. Devoto - so cool - what a hero

  • great! Magazine rule

  • THIS IS A SUPERB SONG,, EVEN BETTER NOW!!

aLL THE INSTRUMENTS FORM PERFECTLY TO GIVE A MAGICAL SOUND,,, GRACED OF COURSE BY hOWARD.

  • EH clone theory chorus pedals drove magazine and joy division, got to agree one of the best bass lines ever in a rock song. In fact sometimes you can hear Sumner doing very Magazine style stuff with Joy Division...simpler of course but big motif lines.Love em both

  • Coolest bass-line ever

  • Never noticed how much Howard looks like Chris Walken.

  • Is it just me, or dows song sound a lot like pink floyd

  • definitely an early PF vibe here

  • great song with a great bass line!feels so deep and dark!i just love harry's eyes.

  • According to Wikipedia, Devoto is a "rock n roll singer"

  • it's always rainning at our souls-always picking up our piecies

  • Simply the best of their generation - in my opinion:)

  • My vinyl copy plays at 100 miles an hour compared to this version!

  • Sounds like you've got the live version that came with Sweetheart Contract double single. I'm sure there was a live Shot By Both Sides with that too. My copy is in the loft somewhere and I don't own a turntable anymore.

  • I'm fucked if I know of two better groups than the Banshees and Magazine. I have tried for years to get video of these two groups and tonight Sham64 brought it home. This Kiwi was seen as very unusual for finding a soul penetrating vibe to Magazine and DeVoto.

    Thanks and thanks Sham again.

  • No room at the Inn.

  • klassiko yperoxo to akouo sxedon%2trixiaxronia kai akoma anatrixiazo -LONG LIFE TO HARRY

  • such a good song!!!

especially the bass on the beginning!!!

  • this song sorta reminds me of joy division

  • So far ahead of their time. What a fantastic band they were.. brilliant musicians and a classic lyricist.. Just the best

  • Sham64...!

You're the man, thanks for all of the great quality (as much as youtuve will allow id imagine) uploads! Fuck yeah

  • i saw this band over 20 years ago,hm almost 30 to be more accurate, dont let the bofs cloud your vision. magnificent!

  • thanks for uploading

  • Fantastic. I cannot thank you enough for the post sham64.

  • I still have the Howard Devoto song book!! You could send off for it with a postcard fron Secondhand Daylight

  • Magazine was the best band ever. If metaphysical poetry ever had a chance in this world it was M. Howard Devoto.

Brilliant in choice of tone, phrasing, and lyrical development. Twenty five years ago Howard Devoto was

already here and now in the collapsing 21st century.

  • Very well said.Second-hand Daylight & Correct use of Soap were/are sublime.

  • quality stuff.

  • what a treat...still holds up today...

  • further on towards the end of '79? couldn't be. Secondhand Daylight came out on March 30, 1979. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it imbecile.

  • Bands big and small got ideas for synth/bass hooks from Magazine.

  • majestic

  • Fabulous band, excellent video. Thanks for uploading!

  • Amazing. The intro alone is genius.

  • nice one. i loved this! truly majestic tune - john mcgeoch's guitarwork for magazine/early banshees is untouchable. my personal fave were always 'thank you (falletin me be myself again)' and 'philadelphia' from the 3rd album..

  • I liked this song so much in the beginning of 80's. Us, progressive music fans, we tolerated Magazine in our sect. :)

  • Thank you for posting just fantastic!

  • Still moving 20 years on

  • The initial copies of the (vynil) LP were flawed. This cock up by the music company severely dammaged sales of this, one of the best, album of the late 70ies. I know... cause I had to buy 4 before getting a 'healthy' copy!

  • One of their best songs, I think.

  • More relevant today than ever before. One wonders why human nature tends to shun the direct honest unadulterated truth as Howard has always doled out.

  • Fantastic! From on of my all time favorite albums. Amazing to see the video. John McGeoch is incredible! Fucking brilliant band!

  • The best new wave group in all time classic song!Back in 1980 was a group called PROXIES from Thessaloniki that perfored this song for first time in Greece!

  • Pure Genius, thanks to sham,i will dust off my old collection and re-live the experience.quality with a conscience.

  • ah feed the enemy The magazine track, saw them play this live at Erica's in Liverpool way back-brilliant

  • Wonderful

  • is this available anywhere these days? DVD/Video ? Probably the same as with XTC, Virgin never realised quite what jewels they had with both bands - Magazine are so underrated ....

  • re released on CD with bonus tracks dunno about DVD/video

  • In the wheatfields they're picking up the pieces...tremendous stuff...JG Ballard with guitars!

  • actually saw it on tv here in new zealand maybe two times. Its from the album 'secondhand daylight' is a gem as is their first album 'real life'.

  • Fantastic! Never seen this before so after so many years what a treat! Thanks!

  • Thanks sham69andahalf. Love this one...still runs through my head after 25+ years. Public service award!
