EH clone theory chorus pedals drove magazine and joy division, got to agree one of the best bass lines ever in a rock song. In fact sometimes you can hear Sumner doing very Magazine style stuff with Joy Division...simpler of course but big motif lines.Love em both
Sounds like you've got the live version that came with Sweetheart Contract double single. I'm sure there was a live Shot By Both Sides with that too. My copy is in the loft somewhere and I don't own a turntable anymore.
I'm fucked if I know of two better groups than the Banshees and Magazine. I have tried for years to get video of these two groups and tonight Sham64 brought it home. This Kiwi was seen as very unusual for finding a soul penetrating vibe to Magazine and DeVoto.
nice one. i loved this! truly majestic tune - john mcgeoch's guitarwork for magazine/early banshees is untouchable. my personal fave were always 'thank you (falletin me be myself again)' and 'philadelphia' from the 3rd album..
The initial copies of the (vynil) LP were flawed. This cock up by the music company severely dammaged sales of this, one of the best, album of the late 70ies. I know... cause I had to buy 4 before getting a 'healthy' copy!
More relevant today than ever before. One wonders why human nature tends to shun the direct honest unadulterated truth as Howard has always doled out.
The best new wave group in all time classic song!Back in 1980 was a group called PROXIES from Thessaloniki that perfored this song for first time in Greece!
is this available anywhere these days? DVD/Video ? Probably the same as with XTC, Virgin never realised quite what jewels they had with both bands - Magazine are so underrated ....
class. cant be beaten.

They should've been one of the biggest bands of the 70s/80s. There really is no justice in the world.

Sadly misunderstood in its day, this late 70s masterpiece sounds better than ever today.

Howard Devoto est fantastique ! Malheueusement, peu d'espoir de le voir revenir à la musique....

Je suis d'accord, mais, bien que je ne sois pas sure, je pense qu'il y avait un concert avec Devoto et Magazine il y a quelques mois.

I still have the Howard Devoto song book!! You could send off for it with a postcard fron Secondhand Daylight

Magazine was the best band ever. If metaphysical poetry ever had a chance in this world it was M. Howard Devoto.
Brilliant in choice of tone, phrasing, and lyrical development. Twenty five years ago Howard Devoto was
already here and now in the collapsing 21st century.

Including the vocal hooks 'borrowed' by Floyd on Wall further on towards the end of '79.

further on towards the end of '79? couldn't be. Secondhand Daylight came out on March 30, 1979. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it imbecile.
