Oh my God, I didn't know there was a racetrack in Austin! I'm attending school in Austin right now (UT) and was lamenting the lack of a nearby race track, so this is great to know. I will definitely head over to Manor Downs when the meet starts in the springtime.
It isn't the greatest track in the world, but It has both thoroughbred and quarterhorse races, and the informal crowd is fun to watch. Don't forget, good tracks in San Antonio and Houston.
I understand. Thing is, I don't have a car (and zero friends interested in horse racing of any kind) so getting to those larger tracks outside of Austin is a bit difficult.
I will have to go and check them out one of these days, though. Lone Star is the only track I've been to; when I return home to the DFW area during the summer I make a point to spend some time at the races there. It's a beautiful track.
What a hoot, John! I was on the edge of my seat, just like I was THERE! You do a great job of bringing the images and story home through your videos. I've REALLY enjoyed both of them. Great visual storytelling. REALLY FUN day at the track! Now I'm getting that old horse bug again. So, was that you with the horn under your arm and the cell phone up to your ear? Please point out you and your wife so I have a visual for both of you. :-)
LOL John, yeah, finally got that mystery figured out when I went to your website. Like you, I'm usually the one behind the camera as well. Great to know who I'm talking to on the other side of the screen now. Thanks for the heads up! :-)
I wish QH racing was a popular sport in australia!! I would love to see their speed over short distances on a track, I rode track work for a few years on TB's are QH's better behaved racehorses??

No, that was the guy who does the trumpet call before each race. I'm the one behind the camera (unshown). Heh, heh.

Our horses are TBs. But I've watched the QH races. They are FAST! I don't know how well behaved they are.
Cheers, John (bestjonbon)
