  • On the beach, bitches...

  • it is treu if they start dropping the bom in a WW it will be over in a few hours...

  • Remember we do not know what weapons WW III will be fought with, but it's guaranteed WW IV will be fought with sticks and stones...

  • @ledzeppelin4ever1975

I doubt it. Gunpowder is easy to make. Millions will die but the knowledge of basic chemistry and metal forging will survive.

  • Why wasn't this in fallout 3????

  • @earlpwns8 Actually, "We Will All Go Together" would have been better, but this would ahve been great.

  • They wanted to be a LITTLE subtle with their humor. any subtle, dark humor would have gone out the window if they included satires about nuclear war.

  • This song made me depressed. I'm depressed because, though I'm 14, I know who Brinkley and Huntley were.

  • Whenever my daughter, born 1977, feels down she plays her Lehrer CD:s, and they always make her smile or even laugh out loud. Her 12 year old son tries hard to make his friends understand what's so great with Lehrer; he himself knows most of the songs by heart. So I think Lehrer will be around for a long time yet, in person or otherwise. Did I mention I adore him myself?

  • I wonder if Eric Idle had any Tom Lehrer records?

  • Recording date: September 11th 1967

  • @ClaireGruber that's kinda scary ^^ considering the song is about pilots and rubble :O

  • I'm in love with the way he says '"Armaggedon"

  • wonderfully expressive eyebrows

  • wow

    its like today's world >_<

  • 6funswede is Lehrer in disguise, i say

  • @wiwcepfan23, no. I can tell you the truth: I am 55 years old and from Scandinavia, and I haven´t got a clue about how to behave myself.

  • @6funswede swedish <3

  • Why hasn't this song been used in a Fallout game yet?

  • I wonder if Stephen Colbert was inspired by Tom Lehrer

  • Wish there were some genius teachers like this man today . . .

  • hm so schnuffig heute bin wer mag texten

  • this song is stuck in my head still love it though

  • I think maybe Tom Lehrer and Peter Sellers put their heads together before Dr. Stranglove was filmed! I like the thought anyways....

  • I would love to hear some of these songs in the Fallout games.

  • I love but,I was wondering these aren't so rare if they are on youtube going viral right?

    just wondering (So I don't wan't to read "that's mean he\she uploaded those video's for you" I hate that : >( .

  • @TheJojojjjj sorry, I meant to say Iove the videos.

  • I wonder if Tom (who I think is 82) watches these videos and I wonder what he thinks so many years later.

  • @mabarry3, I can tell you the truth: although Lehrer doesn't sit around and watch himself on YouTube, he is aware of what's going on. He thinks it's kind of funny that a lot of people are playing the old video recorded performance on YouTube, and he appreciates them even more if they buy the new CD/DVD, which is less than $15. You know, Lehrer has NEVER promoted himself. But the truth is that the new CD/DVD is a bargain and also the Christmas gift of the year 2010.

  • @6funswede funnily enough, it's christmas here and this is just what i got, it is really good, suprisingly high quality sound

  • @6funswede Or any year :-)

  • @6funswede Though i thank you profusely, don't try to make sales dude. It's less funny the tenth time

  • World War 3? I wonder if the hundreds of nukes will hit each other in space. An hour and a half from now is so true. M.A.D. here we come!

  • @mabarry3 If every ICBM hit each other in mid air, that would be very anti-climatic.

  • @RainbowManification anti-climactic? That would be the most awesome sight ever, assuming they detonated.

Actually, if they did detonate, they'd still kill us. The most powerful bombs we can make (see tsar bomba) can put their mushroom cloud into space.

  • @avielMenter Awesome :) I agree totally but I think that we would just lose our ozone layer and THEN die via the sun :).

  • @RainbowManification Other then the fallout that would kill everyone

  • "Yeeeah!" XD

  • One of the most brilliant and pointed U.S. satirists of the 20th century. Wonderful!

  • @colocoug, thank you so much :-)

  • @6funswede AMEN!!!

  • @colocoug Amen! We are so fortunate :)

  • what, is this the 50's Jonathan Coulton? lol

  • Tom - come back - we need ya!

  • *@Dogmantra2

  • @Dogmamtra2 Even Full House? I doubt it.

  • I Think this is his best song

  • dope makes me wanna go to war

  • Fact: every single programme on television is improved if you replace the theme song with this.

  • I loved the Debri line.

  • this song is the right song to be on the next world war3 shows when world war 3 star's in 2012

  • @deathbger Fool!

  • This video is now out on DVD. Please read the updated video description or visit the channel page!

  • This isn't an evolution, it's a prelude....when people get tired of having nothing because of the way the world economy is screwing them over, eventually there will be a war the likes of which weve never seen before...

  • To tenagliac,

Check out Roy Zimmerman and In particular "Thanks for your support," I think you'll find a sharp and biting wit worthy to carry the mantle of satire into the new century

  • We've evolved maybe a little. WWIII is a war of money. Weapons of financial mass destruction. And people don't even know it.

I wish there were Tom Lehrers today to carry a torch and roll out little ditties of genius like this. I tip my hat to Tom Lehrer !

  • Ive been doing stuff like this, its just I havent got the talent to perform it.

Your right, we need Tom Lehrers.

  • @Plawranc even if you arnet that god you shoiulkd still try this is a realy good song it would sound good nomatter who was singing it.

  • fallout 3 rules

  • Anybody who finds humor in this should read fail safe, it's about accidental war with the soviets caused by both countries paranoia.

  • this should be in a fallout game trailer

  • tunnel snakes rules

  • F:NV was here.

  • lol

  • an hoiur and a hlaf war....thats fast that was like the war in iraq>.> dont know why were still there though..rebuiliding everything...after we blew it up...

  • Current mission objective: Kill everyone and everything that shoots at you and blow shit up.

  • Accualy the kuwait war was about 75 hours long.

  • To : hamdemon

your quote is not from ''Demon seed''...

It is from the movie about the hacker that almost started WW III.

He played a game with a computer (mid 1980's)'Global Thermoneuclear((sorry, can't sepell)) Domination...

    Perhaps Matt Broderick???

C'mon ppl... Yer smart ... Help me out here...

  • @tomwmloppe

    War Games

  • how about a nice game of chess?

  • Is there going to be a DVD....I would love that!

  • This ought to be in Fallout Vegas.

  • Agreed

  • thanks so much for posting these! is there a dvd available?

  • capricosi, not yet, but they could be released on a DVD. Meanwhile: check your YouTube inbox :-)

  • i have been desperate to contact the man himself, if anyone can tell me how to do this I will do what little i can to reward you somehow. Needless to say you at least wont regret it :)

  • Needs a Galaxy News Radio debut.

  • YES! I was just thinking that!

  • no joke, the first thing i thought of when i heard this was "GNR." also, Lehrer's song "whos next" and "MLF lullaby"

  • He's like a brilliantly demented Cole Porter, it's just too perfect.

  • That's the best description I've ever heard of him!

  • interesting song

  • "the only way to win is not to play"

  • "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." -- Albert Einstein

  • @idcaboutu9 "...But World War V will be fought against killer robots with lasers"

No-one ever quotes the last bit...

  • you jut now in WWII they was listen to smothin like this an then BOOM planes bombed an CHARGE you just now those moments were epic

  • To really get this song, you have to know the historical context. This song was written before the invention of the ICBM; In the late fifties, the atomic bombs would have been dropped from aircraft, not from underground silos or submarines. See also his video on Wehrner von Braun

  • All the twelve Tom Lehrer songs from this channel have now been republished in better quality. Click the Lehrer icon or the username, go to the channel and select one of the uploaded HQ-versions :-) Don't forget to click the HQ-buttion.

  • so this is what they mean by sikingly sweet...

  • I think you've missed the point of the song...

  • where did you find all this musick

    plz tell me!

  • The internet...

  • A couple of more decades and we will have this song in spades. Didn't T.L. have a song with the lyrics "Leprosy, My God, I've got Leprosy.... There goes my left ear....." etc????

  • There was a pub song called Leprosy I used to sing to the tune of Yesterday -

    Leprosy,

I'm not half the man I used to be,

Little bits keep dropping off of me....

  • Awesome song to be included in Fallout.

  • So true, did they?

No huh, only "Ring ring ring ring banana phone!"

  • banana phone is really in fallout 3???

    that's SICK

  • of course it isn't.

  • April 2009 - 6funswede YouTube log. Errors July 2007-April 2009. "Pollution": Sound deteriorated. "When You Are Old And Gray": Video stuttering. "Send the Marines": Video stuttering. This is ALL YouTube errors, have written to them, but I don't expect any answers. Viewers: PLEASE use the annotation boxes with links in the videos.

  • If...( and I really mean IF) I remember this right, a few other song along with this one were written by Tom Lehrer , for a TV show called 'That Was The Week That Was' TW3 paved the way for other more successful shows, like the Smothers Brothers, and Laugh In.

It's a shame the show didn't last longer...

thanks for putting this on the tube!

  • Happy birthday Mr. Lehrer!

  • lol i tought that was gr8 even now! and for the time, that took balls!

  • an hour and a half

  • hi ruby wauts up

  • God, I've caught myself singing this to MY mother... Oh well, all's well that ends well, and that was awesome form beginning to end! Which was well.

  • Dear Yomejustacandy & Shadowkni710,

I have just a few words for you. You make Youtube a very entertaining place, and I love you for it. That is all.

    Cordially, Baron Von Munchausen

  • Shadowkni710, this was a stupid comment. If you can't understand SATIRE, why bother to play the song or comment?

  • aggreed he's not intelegent enuff to understand this

  • Yeah, some people are hopeless.

  • If a thought ever crossed Shadowkni's mind, it would be the shortest trip in history.

  • o yea? all the Veterans form WW3...wait.Tard lol

  • Where have you been? For like the past 10-15 years war has been a game. Literally! We make games and movies of war because we like it! It's human nature! Get over it you fucktard.

  • Oh boy...Going to start flooding this great video with political comments eh?How about instead we just talk about how great Tom was.And anything else relevent to the video.

  • hmmmm...apparently you missed it. That's precisely what we are doing. Tom's intent was to spark thought, introspection, controversial debate and criticism of current norms, policies and conventions. Think a bit deeper than the superficial.

  • In light of today's tensions between nations, Lehrer's song is visionary for that time. Perhaps President Obama can change this?

  • Of course he will destroy the world because names always determine personality and leadership capacity. *rolls eyes*

  • you are obviously a moron who knows nothing of Obamas proposed policies. If anyone would've catalyzed a nuclear confrontation, it would be Bush or McFossil and Palin.

  • Your command and mastery of the English language reflects on how much of an authority you must be on politics and accomplishments of public servants.

  • Exactly my point.

  • LOL! So was I ! ! !

  • You two are wonderfully funny as well! Bravo! Sincerest Thanks! Mon Congrats! Happy New YEar!

  • Anyone know where I can find a printable version of his musical notes?

  • I love how he looks at his watch before the final line!

  • What's sort of depressing, is how pertinent his songs of 50 years ago still are

  • This was originally written by him for NBC's "THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS" in 1964, a highly satiric prime-time weekly "revue" that poked fun at current events, for which Tom wrote several topical songs, which he later recorded in concert for Reprise records in July 1965 ["That Was the Year That Was"], after the show had gone off the air.

  • Yes, yes, yes ... Tom Lehrer is God. Or at least, he's Elvis. I mean, of course, the Elvis of singing and satirizing Mathmaticians. Or something like that. Anyway, he's great, a true (not-so-)secret(-anymore) classic, a polished gem of a sarcastic motherlover, so 10.000 thanks to 6funswede for making all this rare footage available.

And btw, I don't care if this one has interlacing issues - it's hereby featured! ;P

  • 'The Elvis of singing and satirizing Mathmaticians'

    LOL, yeah.

  • Pure genius. Maybe some day people like Lehrer will be in charge of the government. Nah, way too many morons.

  • Jim, this will probably be in vain, but you should learn some history because the British oppressed the Irish for a very long time. I believe the British banned the Irish from their own parliament in the late 1600's and held control well into the early 1900's. However this is not the place for this discussion and if you wish to continue it I suggest you message me. 6funswede apologies for the de-rail and thank you for post all of these wonderful videos.

  • Appropriate, articulate and devastatingly correct. Job well done!

  • Firstly thanks 6funswede so much for putting these up. I stumbled across When You Are Old and Grey yesterday and after watching these vids I'm pricing his albums on amazon so thank you.

Don't want to go off on a tangent but thanks crazedkid103 for the defense. As an Irish person and History student it's greatly appreciated. Britian had a complicated past with Ireland long before and after 1600s. Far too complicated for some debate on youtube so thanks for showing sense to a comment like that.

  • ok, ok... jesus christ, smokedef... what the hell is your problem???

  • smokedef are you actually going to attack people on every one of tom lehrer's videos. whats teh point why do it?

  • Can any one tell me how many people have to be killed in order for it to be called a Holocoust, because we know what a holocoust is,but there is no mention on the amount of people have to be part of it in order for it to be considered a holocoust,we all know what the germans did,but are there other Holocousts that we take fro granted?

  • a Holocaust is a mass extinction, or attempted mass extinction of a race. There is no real set death toll.

  • well then Lawler016 does that mean we should class wars as holocausts then?including the war against Ireland by the Brits, for example in the early 80s there were under 1 million people living in Ireland,200 years before that there was 3 million, and 800 years before that there was around 7 million,if you take the amount of Irish people in the U.S today, most of those peoples ancestors never wanted to leave Ireland long ago,Americans have to understand that the Irish were pushed/killd from Ireland.

  • u have to understand is dat the usa nd "brits" ie england are better than irland in so many ways ie. in england we can have the C of E living allongside catholics and not try and blow each other up and we arnt such twats as to attack little kiddies on their way to school and make them need a police gaurd to get to school

  • Wars aren't aimed at the mass extinction of a certain race. I merely provided the answer to your previous question.

  • Some of them have been.

  • The difference between a war and a Holocaust is that a Holocaust, ("great fire") is actually used to described the "Systematic Killing" of a particular group of people. It doesn't have to based on race. : )

  • "the year that was" is my favorite collection

  • I'll second that, mate! I think I was nine or so when my parents got the record (he sang the songs a little differently on the vinyl)... To this date I know every single one of them and not one has lost its vigor.

  • I'll look for you when the war is over...an hour and a half from now! Pure genius!!

  • wlel praodn me, oh mnildses ibemlclie.

smoe may fnid tihs itnreetsnig...raendnig tihs wkros bcuasee as lnog as the fsirt and lsat lrtetes are crecort, yuor bairn itnrerptes wdros as a wlhoe and not as idvniidaul ltetres.

  • this guy is actuly very cleaver u can tell by the word he uses in the song

  • lol! he was so ahead of his time wasnt he!?

  • No. I'd say he was pointing out that the usa where going for another war shortly after the second world war was over. Communism was the new threat and target of wars to come.

Not ahead of his time, we're still behind and fight for petty shit

  • What do you expect for a race so primitive WE STILL USE ROCKS FOR MONEY!

  • I've always pronounced it Lairer. Like... Evil lair and er on the end... Yeah. Made more sense in my head.

Ah well, he's a genius anyway...

  • Tom Lehrer is hillarious, but National Brotherhood week is his best

  • I like who's next alot! All of his songs are really good!

  • Tomfoolery has a phenominal duet version of this song. We changed "you can see me up on your TV" to "you'll see me when, I'm on CNN."

  • ".....an hour and a half from now" Hilarious!

  • In this instance, "Little Johnny Jones" would be an ironic (naturally) reference to the old Cohan musical as it appeared in the flag-waving Jimmy Cagney film "Yankee Doodle Dandy".

  • Yes, it's "Lair". At school 35 years ago, we thought he was hilarious. Especially "Pollution". And "Smut". Hilarious and subversive. We knew all the words from LP. But this is the first time I have ever seen what he looks like! My Dad's generation liked him too.

  • really...you never saw him before??

    and its pronounced lairer

  • The Southerner on Macneil / Lehrer pronounces his name "Lairer". This fellow's name was always pronounced "Lair". Why? Cherche-moi.

"Ours not to reason why ..."
