Of all the eccentric dancers on the music-hall circuit, none could top the legendary Wilson, Kepple and Betty. One of several versions of the famous sketch, with which they toured the halls for over 30 years.
Wonderful to see the clips, few exist now, my grandfather was a close friend of Joe Keppel, they both came for the same street in Cork, Ireland, and he nearly joined the act in the early days.
Their act was simple and wonderful. I'm from Cork and would like to revive interest here, but know very little about Joe. Where in Cork were he and your grandfather from?
i just read a biography and betty was replaced a few times, it wasnt always the same girl, but i remember them as a child and they were funny, and indeed still are
Great video. Some years ago(though sadly now closed) a Musichall museum in Truro,Cornwall had some of their props.Unique and sadly a rare perfermance these days.
I first saw this dance as a young boy and it facinated me, it wasn't until these last few years I have been able to watch it again and again. Thank you so much it has been a real treat.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
there is a deep tragedy at the centre of all of this. Betty was originally an arab boy who was the sexual plaything of the two male dancers. when they went to america, the police insisted that a woman was used instead and the boy comitted suicide rather than be sent home to tunisia and life as an arab slave.
Oh, I would have to have some additional citations to believe this. Your comment immediately struck me as lacking veracity, prompting me to check Wikipedia about this act. According to Wiki:
"Jack Wilson (born in Liverpool) and Joe Keppel (born in Ireland) met in the USA, where they started the trio act with Betty Knox in 1910."
Thankyou for posting this Classic footage!!! Where can I buy a copy from ???on Video or Dvd. I last saw this on tv about 20 years ago great to watch it again!!!
I have sorted the choreo out for our routine and if I dare I'll post a vid of it on here, as long as all involved are ok about it. Performance is Nov 3rd - see you later hotun. Cheers

Really, shame on you for attaching some perverted contrivance to these bygone performers. Get a grip.
finisher77 4 years ago
Today, the use of the word "camp" is valid. only coming from someone who has witnessed Wilson and Keppel.
