james's voice got a little chipmunky, is there a way to make it not do that? can't wait for this to show up in the app store, can we expect the standard $9.99 that we've been getting for all your other music apps?
In a video, Jordan shows the regular mode, granular mode and modern sampler mode. The latter takes samples and sounds like voices and shifts some of the harmonies, so the sounds are as chipmunky. Jordan only tried with a voice sample, but i'm hoping that modern mode makes LaBrie's voice better. Oh, the laughs I'll have...
Mr. Rudess, what do you think about the Kitana digital guitar? It's got some pretty cool features on there, that remind me a bit of the Morphwiz, especially the touch screen.
Jordon, this is really nice. I'll use on our CD recording of the United Nations World Awareness project. The voice aspect is key, I already had autistic kids soling with Morphwiz on the live performance. I'll send the link to our kickstarter project we just posted minutes ago, thanks for maintaining an inspired life, Kevin Kent

i got a question. in what black clouds and silver linings song is the snarling fucking pig jordan told mike to mark for the next album on the end of the chaos in motion documentary?
This is awesome. I think I might just have to buy an iPad just so I can get this and MorphWiz. BTW anyone know what the expected price of this app is going to be?
@Shellewell yes, name me some. Its not like im going to play on an ipad in live performances. Can it export samples to real instruments? Or is it just for play?
@geiroffenberg does it import samples from other platpforms? Why should i use the ipad mics to record samples? Stuff like htat. im trying to decide if its for PLAY or WORK! :D
@geiroffenberg its for BOTH play and work. its an actual instrument, its functional and more expressive than a normal keyboard. It can be used live or in the studio the same as any other keyboard. Rudess used bebot app live on the 2009 progressive nation tour and his creation of morphwiz and samplewiz are effectively the same as that but with improvements in actual usefulness.
@Shellewell i must disagree with you on the expressiveness part. The ipad touchscreen isn't actually even close to even a normal keyboard when it comes to keypressure! So you can drag your finger up to change timbre instead of using a midi wheel or foot pedal. That doesnt make it more expressive! But seriously, i understand that it's an instrument but is anyone actyually using ipad as an instrument for real? i never seen anyone so....
By the way, the IPAD that is used in this video has NO keypressure response whatspever, no mod wheels or pedals! How is that more expressive than normal keyboard hardware? Thats why every tone jordan press has the same volume. Yeah you can slide, but come on, have you never used a mod wheel? You can slide as much as you want and still keep your keyboard in tune. Its fun, but i just dont see any real use for it. ALso, i hate apple, so....
@geiroffenberg i think you'll find Jordan will be using morphwiz and samplewiz when he goes live with dream theaters next album just as he did with bebot before he made morphwiz. A modwheel isn't required for expression and neither is keypressure response. he moved his finger one way to control pitch and the other way to control expression like you would a modwheel. If you keep your finger in the centre of the key you'll be in tune so no problems there and pedals are hardly important but if...
@Shellewell i would really like to see that proffessional keyboardist that doesnt thin key pressure response is important for expressiveness. It means every key pressed is in exactly the same sound volume, just like it is in this demo. I certianly don't think it is not important, lol!
@geiroffenberg you consider pedals to be necessary for expression which they are not who is to say you can't plug it through one? Also i would be highly surprised if Rudess hasn't recorded with morphwiz on the new theater album, he did after all design it to be a USEFUL app which can be used on stage and in recording in much the same way as a continuum just with only the 2 dimensions of expression rather than 3
@Shellewell Well, im sure you can find a way to plug in pedals and add mod wheels or whatever, but then WHY would i play on an ipad when i could play on a 88 key professional keyboard? You realize that most things jordan or any other keyboardist play on a keyboard is impossible to play on an ipad, because of the lack of range, the lack of ANY keypressure response and the lack of pedals (which IS very important because it controls the note on note off midi signals. Without it its only stakato)
@geiroffenberg (by means of proof, i have seen Rudess use his iphone as an instrument live with my own eyes and if you look at all of his videos about morphwiz he explains in full what makes it good and useful as an instrument.) The surface of the ipad is a really interesting medium for playing keboards, wether you like apple or not
@Shellewell yeah, but not like a serious isntrument. If he pleys a concert using the ipad and never a keyboard, then we can talk, but that wont happen. And its not surprising he demonstrates his OWN commercial app by doing a lead in a song or two on stage, lol. I'd do the same thing. I still dont see the usfulness of this app, sorry.
@geiroffenberg are you seriously saying that for a keyboard to be professional it has to be able to thake the place of something like a workstation? I have a moog, all that does is mono synth, i wouldn't use that live with nothing else just as i wouldn't use an ipad live without anything else, are you saying a moog is unprofessional? or a hammond organ or a mellotron? Just because its not a huge keyboard doesn't mean its useful and can work really well live and in the studio.
@geiroffenberg don't judge professionalism by wether you can play a full concert on the one keyboard, its not about it replacing full keyboards, its about it being used in conjunction with them. Also instead of key pressure there are other things to control that. Not all good keyboards have key pressure but they can all be expressive to some degree
@geiroffenberg As you will see from this video and the 18 minute one yesterday, it is a big app, theres all the funs stuff on the surface which is great for playing with but also can be used for some great expressive soloing live but you can go deeper and theres all the options and editable things to make it just as much for work as for play. just because something can be used for play doesn't mean it can't be used for work.
@Shellewell i know its a cool app, i have many samplers myself, i just dont see why this is more useful for real other than jst a cool toy on the ipad. I guess i would be more convinces when i see Jordan or others actually use apps like this instead of hardware keyboards etc, becausethey find it more expressive or whatever its not, trust me.)
@geiroffenberg i mean, just in what we see here, not only is it a sampler, you can play a jordan rudess lead sound and du huge expressive slides. it's almost like a continuum fingerboard on an ipad plus sampler.
